Getting ready to open your pool? learn more about chemical free pool systems

April 10, 2008 by Tricia

Now that spring has arrived I’m sure many of you have taken some time to enjoy the nice weather. Perhaps the weather’s nice enough in some areas that you’re even starting to think about how you’ll enjoy your summer?

We don’t have a pool. Heck, with our small yard we don’t even have room for a pond. However, some of our friends have pools and they are already starting to talk about preparing their pool for the upcoming hot days of summer.

Do you already have a pool? Perhaps your big landscaping project this year will be the addition of a pool or spa? If so, I’m envious!

If you already have a pool or if you’ve been thinking of installing a pool have you thought about what kind of treatment you will use to maintain the pools water quality?

I know if we were lucky enough to have a pool I’d want to try to use an environmentally friendly pool treatment system. You see, we have an organic garden. We don’t use any chemicals on our land to get rid of pests or to fertilize our plants, so it only makes sense that we’d try to maintain a pool or pond with the same chemical free standards.

If you’re interested in learning more about environmentally friendly pool treatments you should visit Ecosmartepool.com. They specialize in chlorine free pools and spas.

I think everyone knows that Chlorine treated pool systems aren’t the best. Certainly chlorine isn’t very good for the environment.

Now you might be thinking that salt water pools are a safe alternative? I know I did before I read some of the articles at Ecosmartepool.com.

Salt water pools actually use chlorine generators to keep the water clean. Chlorine generators can make it easier to maintain your pool, but they require a lot of maintenance and one type of Chlorine generator makes a byproduct that is messy and not easily disposed.

Wouldn’t it be much better overall if you could use a system that was 100% chemical free?

EcoSmarte specializes in chlorine, salt water and hazardous chemical free pool systems, spa systems, and pond systems. They also carry EcoSmart filter glass media which is used for pool treatment systems.

The EcoSmarte pool systems use natural oxygen to maintain clean pool water. There systems are easier to use than chlorine based systems and safer than ozone. The natural oxygen system is also much more effective than bromine or bacquacil.

The people behind EcoSmarte believe in protecting the environment and are in fact against Salt water and chlorine based pool systems. They even donate 5% of their profits to environmental charities.

You’ll save money by using the EcoSmarte pool system too. Think about it. You won’t be purchasing chemicals regularly to maintain your pool system. Plus, the EcoSmarte pool system is energy efficient. It costs less than $1 a month to operate.

With all of those benefits it’s certainly worth considering isn’t it?

EcoSmarte offers a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and a 5 year warranty on all purchases. Visit their site to compare their pool treatment system to several other types of treatment systems, then if you’re interested in learning more about their product you can contact them for more information and a product brochure and a free quote.

I’m So Stuffed!

April 7, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I went grocery shopping in the early evening and we came back with fresh Halibut steaks, new asparagus, corn, fresh organic strawberries and salad fixings. We also bought some wine – a Pignot Grigio.

So guess what we had for dinner?

I marinated the Halibut in a mixture of chopped chives – fresh from the garden, dill, paprika and a tiny bit of cayenne pepper and a splash of the white wine.

As the fish marinated, I prepared the asparagus by rinsing them and snapping off the woody ends (they were young asparagus so the ends were pretty good). I then placed them in a microwave steamer container. When I cooked them I put them in the microwave for about four minutes, took them out, drained the tiny bit of water that was in the container, added a tiny bit of margarine and a splash of lemon juice and microwaved them again for 30 seconds. Yummy.

I shucked the husk off of two corn and steamed them in the microwave as well (5 minutes).

As if the fish that Chris eventually barbecued on the grill, the asparagus and corn weren’t enough I also made a salad with fresh chives, green onion, sweet onion, organic salad mix, tomato, radish, cucumber and tomato.

We also had a glass or two of that lovely wine and I’m a little light headed right now.

For desert we finished off some fresh pineapple that we already had. I chopped it up and mixed it with some of the strawberries that we’d purchased at the grocery store.

The meal was delicious, but it was much larger than we normally have these days. So I’m stuffed.

I think I might head for bed soon!

What did you have for dinner?

BTW Our puppy got to taste a few new foods tonight. We gave her a small piece of strawberry, fish, and radish. She seemed to love them. We also gave her some cucumber, salad leaves (spinach and lettuce) and a tiny piece of pineapple. She’d had a taste of each of those before. She’s not big on the leaves but seems to really like cucumber.

Cool gadgets for your pet

April 3, 2008 by Tricia

Anyone who’s visited this site in the last five months or so would have to be blind not to have noticed that I talk about our Labrador Retriever puppy at least once a week. We got her last November and she’s become a huge part of each and every day since she arrived in our home.

When I write about our Lab puppy Midnight many of you have taken the time to share stories about your own puppies and adult dogs. Some of you miss those puppy days and others have offered great tips that have helped keep me sane as I try to train Midnight. I really appreciate all of your comments. They’ve helped!

I’ve never been much of an online shopper, however since we got Midnight I find myself searching various online pet shops for interesting toys and other items that I could buy her. She’s a very pampered puppy! Not only have I bought her a new bed online, but I’ve also purchased treats, a fashionable doggy coat, and at least a dozen toys!

One of the stores that I’ve browsed and will likely purchase some items from in the near future is Pet Gadgets. Their tag line is PetGadgets.com – Innovative Pet Products and it suits their online store perfectly.

Pet Gadgets has some really cool items. Ones that I haven’t seen at other online pet shops. For instance they have items such as PetPeek which is a bubble window for your fence so your pet can look out at the world, a dog house air conditioner and heater, a vibrating pet massager, an Adirondack Dog Chair and hundreds of other great items.

Just like any pet store they have a wide range of products for all types of pets. You’ll find training supplies, auto accessories, waste management products and solutions, bowls, feeders, collars, leashes, eco-friendly products, treats, toys, grooming tools and even items for handicapped pets.

I think I’ve looked at just about every section of the site and I was amazed at the variety of products and how handy many of them seem. As I said earlier they have items that you just won’t find in other pet stores and online stores. I found the prices to be quite reasonable as well.

If you have a pet it’s definitely worth taking a moment to visit Pet Gadgets. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely sideboards and buffet cabinets for your dining room

March 10, 2008 by Tricia

I’m not sure if I’ll count today as a write off, as in a wasted day, or if I’ve actually accomplished a few things that needed my attention. I think it will fall somewhere in the middle.

As I said in an earlier post I’ve spent a lot of time lying on the couch today because I threw my back out with all the snow shoveling I did on Saturday. I filled my time by watching some TV, writing a few posts on my blogs, reading a new forum and browsing online stores in an attempt to get some redecorating ideas so I’ll be ready when we complete our living room dining room renovation.

I think quite a few people start to get a yearning to redecorate as Spring approaches. I know I’ve gone through stages where I’d move the furniture in our living room around once or twice a year to give the room a new look, changing some of the rooms accessories each time as well.

One of the sites that I visited today was eBuffet.com. They carry a wide line of buffet tables and buffet cabinets in a range of styles and price ranges to suit any budget.

I already have a beautiful antique dining room set and I don’t plan to replace it anytime soon, but perhaps you’ve been thinking of purchasing new dining room furniture for your home or adding a beautiful sideboard to add to the look and function of your dining room.

buffettable.jpg eBuffet has beautiful antique sideboards and buffet cabinets. This one, to the right, actually looks quite a bit like the one I own.

Buffet tables and sideboards usually have drawers and cabinets that are perfect for storing your fine china and other dining room accessories that you’d use when serving a meal in your dining room. They’re impressive pieces of furniture to look at and functional too.

Along with sideboards and buffet cabinets you’ll also find buffet hutches, as well as complete buffet and or dining room sets. Their buffet cabinets and sideboards come in many styles ranging from antique, contemporary and traditional. Take a look at their selection. Oh and if you want to save some money take a peek at their clearance section. They have some great deals listed there!

Now I’m off to get more redecorating ideas.

Dying to finish our renovation jobs!

March 10, 2008 by Tricia

I’m still stuck lying on the couch today. My back is still aching terribly.

It was a bit better at 5 a.m. I’d fallen asleep on the couch with a heating pad set on medium under my back and that seemed to have loosened up my muscles. Now though it’s back to being very painful to move around. Grrr

So I’m spending my time looking at the computer. Typing away at a few posts and also doing some online shopping at places like directbuy. Well … I’m just window shopping really. I’m trying to get some ideas for the house. You know for when we finally finish renovating our living room dining room and also for when we begin to renovate our basement.

I hope we can started on those projects soon. I’m so tired of living in a half finished house it’s not funny!

Have you been stuck living in a house with a half finished reno job for an extended period of time?
