I think he got the job!

November 8, 2006 by Tricia

Chris went to work Tuesday evening and everyone that he ran into kept congratulating him on getting the OR attendant position that I mentioned in a post this past weekend. Only problem was that he hadn’t been interviewed for the job yet. Huh?

Well he went and had his interview this afternoon and while they didn’t say that he got the job the director of the OR Recovery area told him he should speak with his current boss about the possibility that he would be changing positions before she did. Chris has balls (well of course, he’s a guy) so he told the director about people congratulating him the night before, and while she still didn’t confirm that he got the job she did reply to him that she “might have mentioned it to a few people.”

It will still be a part time job in the hospital but he’ll have more hours. He’s guaranteed 4 DAYS a week. No more day, evening and night shifts! Plus he’ll only have to be on call every third weekend, and when he’s on call he’ll get paid for four hours work even if he only goes in for an hour. AND since he’s still part time he’ll still be receiving the 14% on top of his hourly pay in lieu of benefits. HA!

The job hasn’t been confirmed but it’s looking good. Keep your fingers crossed please!

Chris is a Penaholic

November 4, 2006 by Tricia

Do you have favorite stores that you like to do your shopping in, or a particular type of store that you like more than others? I do. Now this might seem a bit odd, but I’ve always liked drug stores or Pharmacies. No it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that I have to take medications regularly … nope, I just like drug stores.

When I was a teenager I used to go to the drug store and wander through the cosmetic aisles. I wanted to be a Make Up artist and I just adored looking at all the different brands, shades and the variety of products. I did eventually get my Make up Artist and Special Effects make up certificate too.

These days though, it’s different aisles that grab my attention. One is the greeting card aisle. There’s such a variety of cards to choose from theses days. Of course, I don’t always find just the right card when I’m looking for a particular one, and that can be disappointing. Occasionally when I look for a greeting card for someone I’ll find two or three that I really like. I tend to buy all the ones I like when I find them. This saves a trip out when I need a birthday card because I might just have the right one in my own greeting card stash.

Another Aisle that I like is the one that usually has office supplies, pens, school supplies, return address labels, and post its. I’m drawn to the pens in that area. Oops did I make a pun there? LOL

You see, I’m left handed. Yes that explains everything for my readers doesn’t it? Yeah, I’m different- as you know. I do write like a right handed person rather than curving my hand into a weird position like some lefties do, but still I have trouble finding pens that I really like to use when I’m writing. I don’t know if that’s just me being picky or if it’s a factor in being left handed.

I like the pens that are just a little bit thicker than those really cheap pens that are sold in packages, not the big thick pens though- they’re too big. The ones with the rubber grip are best for me. Just like the greeting cards- if I find some pens that I like I buy a few of them and hide them away at home for future use.

Oh and I do have to hide them. My husband must be a penaholic. If I leave a pen out on my desk and walk away it will disappear. My husband will have taken it into a different room with him and then he promptly loses it, or he’ll take my pen to work with him. He, like I, works in a hospital. Do you know how many germs are floating around in hospitals? If he takes my pen to work it’s his, I don’t don’t want it back.

As hard as I try he must steal at least two of my pens each week, and that’s why I’m always wandering the aisles of the drug store looking for new pens.

Wish my husband luck!

November 3, 2006 by Tricia

My husband Chris hasn’t been getting very many shifts lately. He works as a porter at the same hospital that I work at, but his job is only part time. He used to get a lot of shifts at least four a week, sometimes six or seven. Lately he’s only been averaging two shifts a week.

We could handle his fluctuating shifts when I was working, but now that I’ve been off sick for so long and have no income of my own coming in, we are really feeling his lack of shifts. So he’s been applying to a lot of hospitals in the area for portering or other similar positions, and he’s also been keeping an eye on the job boards at work.

He recently found two jobs worth applying for at work – one is an OR attendant and the other is an Ultrasound Attendant. Both jobs will have a lot of shifts and a better possibility of the positions becoming full time. Did I tell you that it can be very hard to get a full time position in the hospital? (unless you are a nurse like me of course).

He has an interview for the OR attendant position next Wednesday and hopefully he’ll be called for an interview for the Ultrasound position too. So wish him luck!

If he has to change jobs I hope that he can get a better one at the hospital that we both currently work in. It’s so convenient. We only live a few blocks from the hospital so we can walk to work. It’s wonderful.

Make money posting on a forum?

October 23, 2006 by Tricia

I kept hearing about this forum where you could go and post questions or post replies to discussions that were already going on and then the owners of the site would actually end up paying you for your participation.

Since I’ve been looking for ways to make a bit of extra money I thought what the heck, why don’t I at least check it out and find out what this is all about. So I went and registered at MyLot.com yesterday.

While I was surfing sites and answering email I’d occasionally switch tabs and respond to a discussion on my lot or post a question of my own. I have no idea if I made any money doing that yesterday because they haven’t updated the earnings section yet, but many members say they make $3 to $8 a day doing that and I saw some that said they made $40 per day.

I think I’ll try this for a week or so and see what kind of earnings I make while posting on the forums. I’ll let you know how it works out.

Notice some changes?

October 13, 2006 by Tricia

You’ve probably noticed a few changes on my blog in the past couple of days. I’ve increased the number of posts that I’ve been doing and that will probably continue for some time, well unless I burn out!

You see, I’ve been writing opinion posts for Pay/PerP0st so that I can make a little bit of extra cash. As my regular readers probably know, I’ve been stuck at home for 10+ months due to illness. I’m an emergency room nurse but I’ve been too sick to work thanks to my having Crohn’s disease.

My sick pay ran out last March or April, so then I applied for medical leave pay through our government unemployment office. No I’m not unemployed, not yet anyway. The medical leave pay only lasted for 15 weeks and that ran out in early July. Since then we’ve been living on my husbands Part-Time job’s pay and our savings. In July I had contacted our medical insurance company (we have medical insurance coverage through our employer) and they started the process of deciding whether I’m eligible for short term disability pay. I’m still waiting for their decision and our funds are running out.

I hope to go back to work soon but I’m still not well so I have no idea when I may return. Soon I hope because I fear that if I don’t get back soon they may decide not to hold my job any longer.

So, I’m busy trying to find some ways to make money while I’m at home. And no, I’m not going to do anything kinky! LOL

Right now I’m trying out the P Post postings on my site. I hope that my regular readers will put up with this for a while. I’m trying to find interesting ads to write about that might be of interest to some of my readers, and I’m trying to find items that fit in with this site. The posts will probably blend in a bit better once I get used to writing them.

If anyone has any other ideas on how I can make some extra money from home let me know. I need some ideas to help keep us afloat.

Thanks!
