Spring means mortgages – new and renewals!

April 11, 2007 by Tricia

I was just thinking that it was about this time of year six years ago when Chris and I started hunting for, this, our very first home. I did most of the house hunting with our real estate agent as Chris worked really long hours on the other side of town back then and he couldn’t get home in time to go out with us. If we’d always scheduled viewings that included him we either would have seen far fewer houses or our hunt would have taken a lot longer. As it was, I went armed with a borrowed digital camera so I could show pictures to Chris of the houses that I saw, and it still took about two months to find this nice solid house.

Having said that, and knowing that many other people are out there house hunting right now since it’s Spring … the best time to buy and sell a house, I’d also imagine that for many home owners it’s also time to think about your Mortgage, and perhaps begin to hunt for companies that specialize in Remortgages. I don’t envy any of you!

I can remember what it felt like when we applied for our first mortgage. You have to do that first when you start house hunting so that you know what kind of price range you can look for in a home. It was at that time that I discovered I still had a few listings in my credit report, that if I hadn’t managed to clear up in time, would have caused us a lot of trouble in securing a mortgage. We might have had to hunt for one of those bad credit mortgages as a result.

Luckily it was stuff that I’d payed off in the past, but hadn’t been removed from my credit report. I got the report cleared and we got an estimate of what kind of mortgage range we could afford and we were off to house hunt, or rather as I explained above I was off house hunting.

Still the whole experience was nerve wracking. I don’t like borrowing money from people or banks, and I don’t like owing money either. Of course when it comes to something like a mortgage, unless you won the lottery chances are you are going to owe a lending institution some money if you want to get a house.

We really lucked out with our first mortgage. Interest rates were at an all time low and we decided to take a variable interest mortgage. You know how good our mortgage was? We paid zero interest the first 6 months and then half a percent below prime which at first was as low as only 2% interest each month. We saved a lot of money on interest in our first five years of owning the house!

Last year we had to remortgage the home since our five year mortgage contract was ending. I hummed and hawed about it for at least a month before I started to seriously look for institutions with good mortgage rates. Once I had some figures I called up our current mortgage broker and discussed renewing our mortgage and when I told our agent that I’d found lower prices with another company I ended up lowering our mortgage rate by a whole percentage.

I discovered that I was a better negotiator than I’d thought I was! Still … the nerves, the stress!

My advice to anyone that’s seeking a new mortgage or is about to remortgage their home is to do some research like I did, and also make sure that your credit report is clean too. As my husband would say – Knowledge is power. Use it well.

Looking for a web host? Try DMG dedicated Servers

April 6, 2007 by Tricia

If you own your own business, or have a website(s) that is starting to get a lot of visitors each day it may be time to switch over to a dedicated server service. Hosting your website on dedicated servers often allow your site to grow with ease as there are often fewer daily or monthly traffic restrictions placed upon a dedicated server account by the hosting company.

If you are looking for a company that provides dedicated server accounts look into the DMG Dedicated Servers packages. DMG is a dedicated server host provider located in Grand Rapids, MI.

DMG offers excellent customer service support, and provides reliable service. I think that many of us have hosted our sites on web hosts, both free and paid, that went down from time to time. DMG has remarkable uptime.

DMG states that their customers are their most valuable asset. If I were looking for a dedicated server web host I’d want to work with a company that felt I was their most valuable asset. Wouldn’t you?

Please visit the DMG website if you are thinking of hosting your website on a dedicated server. Remember there are many advantages to doing this if you have a popular site with a lot of traffic. Visit the DMG site to learn more.

Ted M is the Best!

April 5, 2007 by Tricia

Still on cloud nine. Please, nobody do anything to bring me down – this is so nice!

Why am I so happy? Well, as you know some of the posts I write are compensated. I do some work for several companies, but I try to spread it out over several blogs. I also try to take writing opportunities that suit me – my personality, lifestyle, interests and or would be something very interesting to tell my readers.

One of the posts that I wrote on Tuesday was for Pay/perp0st. I actually enjoy the work I get from all the companies that offer me work, but Pay/perp0st is most definitely the best as far as having the largest choice in writing opportunities. I like being able to pick what I write about – it works out much better that way for me and my readers. Pay/perp0st opportunities are also available in a range of pay scale too.

That was the case on Tuesday. The post that I managed to snag required very specific Alexa and Technorati ranks. This blog happened to qualify and I was lucky enough to get the $2,500 writing opportunity. No, you did not read that wrong. That’s how much I was paid to write the post that I just linked too.

Some people might think I’ve sold my soul. Yes, some people are strongly against these kind of posts. When I first started blogging I really didn’t want to have advertising on my sites. Unfortunately times change. I became quite ill and was unable to return to work. I had to find a way to make an income from home. Hence the posts. However, please know that I try to only write about things that I think are interesting.

Anyway the point of this was really to give Ted, the owner of Pay/perp0st a bit of love. There are very few business’ of any kind that rewards their workers as well as Pay/perp0st has in the time that I’ve been working with them.

The company works very hard to secure good advertisers for Pay/perp0st. They’ve also worked very hard to get a wide variety of bloggers working for them. As I said there’s usually a variety of paid writing opportunities to chose from so you can pick and choose what you’d like to put on your blog. Yes there are days when I visit and I don’t find anything that I’m really interested in, or perhaps I mostly only see opportunities to write for companies that I’ve written for in the past. I don’t take ops on those days.

Ted is also very good about creating writing opportunities for the bloggers. Sure, the posts are often to promote some new Pay/perp0st feature, but some of them are just plain silly and he puts them out there for the heck of it. Does anyone remember my catfish video? I guess that opportunity was to promote the fact that advertisers could ask bloggers to do videos to promote their site or product, but over all it was just plain fun.

Every month there are opportunities created by Pay/perp0st themselves. Most don’t have huge restrictions in them so a good number of the bloggers who work with the company can take the ops.

Then there’s all the other great stuff that Ted and his faithful Pay/perp0st team have done. Lets see … They paid for a wedding for one of their bloggers. They’ve also tried to do something called a Patrol whenever they are in a new town for a convention or business. I’m not sure how many Patrols there’s been all together but I think at least 6 or 7 bloggers have been given the opportunity to make some quick and easy money by participating in a Patrol whenever Pay/perp0st has visited their city. Take Robyn for example. She’s the one that ran around the cold streets of Chicago last December. She was given $1000 for doing that, and she also got a brand new HP camera and an HP printer.

Crest Mountain – breathtaking views from your window

April 5, 2007 by Tricia

If I were ever to move from where I am I think I’d want to live in an area where I’d have a view of the mountains. Whenever I’ve taken a holiday out west to visit my brother it’s always the mountains that linger in my mind when I get home.

If you like the idea of living in a home with a view of beautiful mountains you should take a look at Ashville North Carolina. It’s rated as one of the top 10 places to live by Outside Magazine. Crest Mountain is less than five miles from the heart of town and residents of the area enjoy breath taking views.

Ashville Realty has homesites in development and condominiums available for those who would like to live in a peaceful and beautiful community on Crest Mountain and close to Ashville NC.

Someone pinch me!

April 4, 2007 by Tricia

OMG!

Am I dreaming? Someone pinch me please? Did I write a post worth a ton of money? Yes I did, look at the Pay/perp0st leaderboard image I took of the top earners for the day on Tuesday April 3rd:

april3ppp.gif

Oh how I needed this money too! In the wee early morning hours of Tuesday I payed a boat load of bills, more than $1000 worth. Plus, there was that medical test … remember the camera pill I had to swallow in January? That cost me $1200 bucks … our health insurance doesn’t cover that test.

Pay/perp0st really didn’t need to offer an op that was priced that high for me to write about them. I do work for a number of blogging companies and by far and large P offers the most opportunities, good to unbelievably fantastic pay, and you can pick and chose which opportunities suit both you and your blog best. Plus, they are the only paid blogging company that regularly communicates with their bloggers. I’ve written posts praising and thanking them many times absolutely free of charge. I might have also wrote a few posts were I grumbled about changes that they made that weren’t working for me too. It’s just a huge bonus that I got paid so well to do it this time round.

BTW I’m in Canada and our dollar is a little less than the US dollar. Do you have any idea what $2500 converts to in in Canadian money? $2,895.76. Yah baby!

May the Canadian dollar fall just a little bit more before I get paid 30 days from now …

Thanks so much to everyone that stopped by to say congrats on getting that opportunity.
