My traveling brother

January 31, 2012 by Tricia

I feel a little sorry for one of my brothers. He’s traveled every week so far this year for his job. I know some people do that all the time, but it’s unusual for him and when you aren’t used to traveling that often it can take a lot out of you.

I suppose it’s a good sign for him that his company is having him travel to their head office in Montreal so often. They must have a lot of confidence in him. At least he can visit with his son when he’s in Montreal – that’s one plus. Another plus is that my brother used the conferencing service to call my sister, my brother in Vancouver and I last week for a family conference call. That was kind of cool. Of course he could do that any time from his Toronto office, but he rarely does.

I don’t think my brother is traveling this week. If he isn’t it’s the first week this year that he hasn’t had to fly out of town. I’m sure he’s happy!

Do you travel for work a lot? Do you like it?

I absolutely need a holiday

August 3, 2011 by Tricia

I think I need a holiday! Our neighbors are back to making a TON of noise and it’s driving me completely bonkers. Honestly, how can a two and a half year old make so much noise that it sounds like a baby elephant lives next door? Really!

So … I’m thinking that maybe my husband and I should book a weekend getaway. Perhaps a trip to Niagara Falls or a cabin by the lake type get away? It’s already August so hopefully we’ll b able to get a weekend rental … maybe a cabin, but I’m sure a hotel room in Niagara Falls.

I’d love to spend a weekend lazying by a quiet lake after getting up in morning from one of those big comfortable cabin beds. I think I’m going to start doing a search for cabin rentals to see if I can find just the type of place I’m looking for and book a weekend before the summer is over.

Do you ever just need to have a weekend away? Where would you most like to go?

Holiday season is definitely here

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

You can always tell which neighbors are heading out of town as soon as the kids are our of school, can’t you?

Most lower schools let out here in Toronto on Friday and I wasn’t surprised to see several people packing up their cars with camping gear and even a few big trailers in the neighborhood. Obviously some people are planning some big trips – maybe cross country trips. Hopefully they bought motorhome insurance before they left.

My husband is on holiday right now too, but we aren’t going anywhere this summer. We’re just sticking around home. There’s plenty to do in the city. There’s the jazz festival down town right now, and it’s Pride week if we want to see what’s happening with that, it’s certainly fun to watch the parade!

Are you going on holiday this summer? What are you going to do?

Travel to a wedding or not?

December 10, 2010 by Tricia

My husbands niece is getting married next June. We only learned that she was engaged in the summer, and when we spoke with her during her visit on Labor Day weekend it sounded like she and her fiance weren’t planning on getting married for a couple of years, but surprise – they’re getting married in June and it’s going to be in Mexico.

My husband has never really liked the idea of a Mexican vacation so he’s not so big on the idea of going to Mexico even for his nieces wedding. Plus … we don’t have a lot of extra money these days thanks to all of the temporary lay off that Chris has been going through at work. Still … I’ve been keeping my eye out for travel deals just in case we change our minds about going to the wedding.

We apparently have until April to make a final decision about attending the wedding, so we’ll see what happens.

I’d love to get away for a winter holiday!

March 16, 2010 by Tricia

I’ve wanted to go on a holiday all winter! Not that winter here in Toronto has been all that bad. We’ve had barely any snow and it’s been quite a bit warmer than it usually is! More spring like than anything!

Still … a holiday would be nice. I’d be happy to go anywhere. Niagara falls for the weekend or a week in one of those beautiful Outer Banks beach rentals.

Actually considering that it’s already March Break and Spring arrives this weekend, perhaps we’ll hold off on a “winter” holiday and try to take some time at the beginning of summer. Chris has a one week lay off from work coming up in June (yeah cut backs!) so depending upon how our finances are doing maybe we could take a mini-holiday during that time. Maybe just going up to a friends cottage would satisfy that need for a vacation that I’ve been going through.

Did you take a winter vacation this year? If you did, where did you go?
