I need a holiday!

April 3, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I never seem to take holidays. Well, yes we do travel to various places but it always seems to be a family related event. Remember last summer we went to Chicago? Well we stayed with Chris’ brother when we visited. We also went to Ottawa that summer and stayed at my brothers. We want to go to Vancouver sometime in the next year and oh guess what? We’ll probably stay with another brother of mine when we go there.

Believe me it’s nice to be able to stay in someone’s home when you go on a little vacation. It certainly saves money, and often we end up staying with people that we don’t see very often so it’s a good chance to get together and visit.

We never seem to get away for a real vacation. What is a real vacation anyway? I’d love to go to one of the Caribbean island resorts, or perhaps to South America – maybe Costa Rica, or perhaps a lovely European vacation?

You know what I’ve been thinking about doing? Signing up for a membership with a club that has resorts all over the world. We wouldn’t have any excuse not to plan holidays to different parts of the world each year if we had a membership with one of the holiday clubs like leisuretime holidays. All we’d have to do would be decide where exactly we’d want to go and book it through the club. Then we’d end up staying in a luxurious resort for a week or two each year.

I could certainly go for that. In fact, that might be the only way we start taking regular holidays!

How about you? Do you take regular holidays each year? Do you go the same types of places over and over again, or do you try to go somewhere different for each holiday?

Florblanca Resort Costa Rica

March 25, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I haven’t done much traveling together as a couple. That doesn’t mean that we don’t want to! It’s just that between our jobs, my being sick, and the two of us having gone back to school in the past we just haven’t been able to find the time when we could take a really nice vacation together.

One of the places that is near the top of our list to visit is Costa Rica.

You might need a little bit of background on Chris and I to understand why Costa Rica is near the top of our most desired vacation spots. To keep the story short I’ll just say that Chris and I really love wildlife, in particular we enjoy seeing and keeping reptiles and amphibians as pets. A holiday in a land known for it’s diverse flora and fauna just as Costar Rica would be ideal for us.

I was visiting the Florblanca.com site just now as they specialize in costa rica travel. The site is just gorgeous. It’s full of photos of Costa Rica and has information on just about anything you could possibly want to know about this absolutely gorgeous country.

There are so many things one could do in Costa Rica and Forblanca.com lists it all. There is information about the Florblanca resorts accommodations, excursions – such as “fly out” adventures, Costa Rica’s wildlife, flora and fauna, activities, special events and even information about how to get to the Florblanca resort.

Even if you’ve never thought of taking a vacation in Costa Rica. I urge you to visit the site just to look at the lovely photography. It’s a beautiful place, and I wouldn’t be surprised if after browsing the site and looking at all the photos if Costa Rica ended up being put on your short list of places to visit.

Found a great place to book vacations and get great deals

March 8, 2007 by Tricia

I’m not going on a vacation this year for March break, but I know that many of you will be. I also know that a good number of people don’t plan their vacations ahead of time … they wait and see what kind of deal they can get as their holiday time approaches. Believe me- I have a lot of friends that do that, and I’ve even done it myself on occasion.

I just came across a site called Vacations.net that offers vacation packages with savings up to 50% off. This site might be of interest to anyone planning a vacation or someone just watching for great deals in order to take a spur of the moment vacation. The sites just been re-designed and it’s so easy to use.

I like the way the site is set up and how for any of the vacation packages listed there is detailed information about the area, customs, history, culture and activities that tourists might do while on holiday.

Check it out. You can find deals on an All Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean to popular destinations like the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica. Once you find a package that you like you can book it right then and there by using Vacations.net’s online booking engine.

Check out the site and if you do find a vacation deal there remember to bring me back a souvenir.

Worldwide Hostel listings at Hostelbookers.com – the cheaper way to travel

March 1, 2007 by Tricia

Last summer we had a border staying in our home. She was from Korea. Last July she had the opportunity to take a four day bus trip/tour of New York City so she decided to go on the trip. As it turned out she didn’t end up taking the trip through the school but went on her own – causing us much worry when she didn’t come home until two days after we’d expected her to return as some of you might recall.

It turns out that she stayed in at least two New York Hostels while she was in New York City. I’m not sure if she booked her stay in the hostels on her own or if one of the friends that she met in New York did it for her but either way, she stayed in hostels because it was a much less expensive way to stay in the city and to be able to afford to see many of the places in New York that interested her.

Just now I was visiting hostelbookers.com and if I had another border, or if I’d known about this site last summer I would most definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to travel to New York or any other city and save money while vacationing.

Hostelbookers.com is an online hostel booking service. Their rates are the cheapest online.

You know what I like about hostelbookers.com? You can search the site in a number of ways. For example, suppose you are planning a trip to New York and you wanted to see if there are any Hostels in the area that you think you’ll do the majority of your site seeing in. Just use their interactive Google map to search for hostels in the area that you are interested in. Click on the numbered hostels in the area that you’d like to stay in and you can find out how they’ve been rated by others who’ve stayed there in the past.

After you’ve used the interactive map, or rather than using the interactive map, you can simply click on the city that you’d like to travel to and get a list of all the hostels in that city. When you view the listed of Hostels you’ll be able to see the price for a shared or private room, and the rating that other site members have given the Hostel.

To get more information about a particular hostel simply click it’s name in the listing and you’ll be taken to a new page that has detailed information about the hostel. You’ll find information such as whether there’s a curfew, 24 hour reception, hot showers, if you’ll be able to access the internet, whether there’s air conditioning plus many more pieces of interesting information such as common tourist attractions that are nearby. You’ll also be able to view photos of the rooms. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of the rooms look quite a bit like pleasant bed and breakfast style rooms.

You can check prices and availability from the hostels information page, and then you can go on to book your room if you decide that your interested in staying in that hostel.

You don’t have to register or log in to Hostelbookers.com to view the vast amount of information on the site. I also like the fact that they come right out and say that there are no hidden charges or booking fees. The price that you see when you are checking prices and availability is the price that you’ll be charged.

After seeing how nice many of the rooms are, and how cheap they are too, I think I’d consider staying in a Hostel the next time I visit New York city. Especially if I ended up saving enough money that I could see two Broadway shows instead of just one. Sure, why not.

If you use Hostelbookers.com or if you’ve stayed in any of the Hostels that they have listed don’t forget to go back and rate the hostel. The more ratings they have from past hostel guests the better.

Beautiful Hawaii property rentals

January 10, 2007 by Tricia

Oh my gosh. You know how I’ve been longing for a vacation don’t you? Well I can’t take one right now, so I’m doing the next best thing by visiting exotic sites online and day dreaming about them. Well I found one that makes me drool. It’s a site that features Hawaii Vacation Rentals and now I’m just dying to go to Hawaii.

Gebhart Properties has vacation rentals on the “big island” and on maui. These are premiere resorts and ocean front homes that are being put up for rent. The resorts and rental homes are just lovely, with ocean front views, spacious living areas and they are even decorated with beautiful artwork.

Each property that Gebhart properties rents out is unique. Some have gourmet kitchens, another is only 30 feet from the ocean. If you’ve been thinking of a vacation in Hawaii or even moving their temporarily why don’t you visit the Gebhart website and have a look at their lovely properties.

You just have to promise me, since I can’t get away for a vacation right now, that if you do go you’ll send me a note and let me know if it’s as jaw dropping gorgeous as I think it is.
