I need to travel

May 10, 2007 by Tricia

I think I’ve had a real wander lust lately! Ever since the weather got warmer and Spring hit I’ve been thinking about traveling somewhere. Anywhere. I guess after being stuck inside the house all winter it’s normal … especially in my case because I’ve really been stuck indoors since I’m off sick and not going to work each week. It’s really getting old.

I think I need to start planning some short vacations for Chris and I. Earlier I was saying how nice it would be if Chris and I went and spend a weekend in Niagara falls. I’ve also recently talked about traveling to a number of other places. I seriously think I should stop thinking about traveling and start making some plans. Even if it’s just to get away for a weekend or perhaps four days or so, I’m sure I’d enjoy it.

I went to Chicago last year, and I might go to Vegas later this year … let see … maybe I should fit in a trip to New York city? I’ve never been there and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to go. If we go to New York I’d love to see some plays on Broadway or off Broadway … guess I’d better get in touch with a new york ticket broker if we want to see some shows or even attend a baseball game while we are there. If we go.

I envy one of my brothers! Over the last five or six years he and his wife have taken elaborate vacations to almost every continent! They went to India this past January. I forget what next years vacation plan is, but it’s something exotic if I remember correctly. It’d be nice if Chris and I could pick up and travel like that.

Perhaps along with planning some mini getaways I should purchase a lottery ticket?

We should rent a place for Postiecon

May 9, 2007 by Tricia

I never thought about it before, but I just found out that you can rent Disney vacation homes. By this I mean vacation homes that are right beside Disney World in Orlando Florida. If I’d known that I might have looked into it when I was thinking about going to P0stiecon at the end of the month.

We could have gathered a small group of bloggers, maybe 6 or 8 and rented out a nice sized vacation home. Hmmm maybe we can do something like that in Vegas now that P0stiecon has moved? Rent a big vacation home or maybe a very large hotel suite and share it?

I’m still not even sure if I’m going to Vegas this fall, it all depends on this darn Crohn’s disease, but if I’m feeling ok by early summer I might start to make some plans.

If any other posties are interested in perhaps sharing a double room with Chris and I – by double room I mean adjoining rooms or a double suite … whatever you call it, let me know.

I want to get out of this place

May 1, 2007 by Tricia

Well, the way I’m feeling today I think I’m might just get on a plane and take a break. I’ve always wanted to go to Egypt and even the middle east. Perhaps I should just take a last minute holidays to Sharm or may be not. It’s probably too hot there right now anyway.

I’d be happy enough to just get away to the cottage for a while too. That would be cheaper. Plus it’s the right time of year to do that here anyway. Yeah, the cottage does sound good. I’d barbeque everyday too.

One place that I will not be going in a month is PostieC0n in Florida because the time and place have just been changed! Can you believe that? I haven’t been to visit the P-P forums yet but I’m sure they are going wild. I think there’s going to be a lot of upset people.

You ever feel so fed up with something that you just want to kick things?

Road Trips

April 24, 2007 by Tricia

I was just telling you about the road trips that I used to take with my parents when I was a kid. Well, we drove out west too. Not once, but at least three times. One of my brothers lives in Vancouver, British Columbia and we’d drive from Ottawa Ontario all the way out to Vancouver. I guess for Americans that would be like driving from New York to Seattle. It’s about 2000 miles each way!

I think on all of those trips we brought our pop up trailer. I actually have one of the last pop up trailers that my family owned. Chris and I really do have to take a road trip sometime with it. Oh we’ve taken it camping but we haven’t taken it on a long trip where you repeatedly stop and set up each night like we did on those long trips out west and back!

Ontario is the largest province in Canada, and as far as North America goes it might be the biggest province/state … I could be wrong but I think it’s bigger than Texas … if not it’s close to the same size. If you are driving from Ottawa in the South East all the way to the Northern tip of Ontario it can take more than two days if you aren’t pushing it really hard. By this I mean two to two and a half 10 hour days as opposed to 14 or 18 hours days of driving!

Going through the other western provinces is much faster. The prairies can be driven through in one day, and once you hit the Rockies in Alberta count another days travel or so to get to Vancouver.

The three times we drove out west we drove through Canada on the way there, and then through some of the US states on the way back like Washington, Montana and Idaho.

I think we only drove through Montana twice but it stuck in my mind. I really liked the scenery, the farmlands and the small towns that we drove through. I think I must have seen a lot of cows in the fields as we drove through Montana because when I remember Montana I always seem to picture cows. LOL You know, if I ever struck it rich I’d get myself a ranch in Montana. Maybe I’d contact bozeman montana real estate to see what kind of properties they’d have for me.

I think that after we’d hit Idaho we’d always head back into Canada for the rest of our trip home. It was a long time ago and I can’t remember exactly what areas we passed through, but surprisingly, even as a teenager I enjoyed those trips. They were long but enjoyable.

I think through all those summer vacation road trips with my family I’ve seen most of the USA – except for several of the most southern states, and all of Canada except for the Territories and NewFoundLand. That’s a lot of traveling … in a car!

I was just thinking that it might not be that economical to take trips like that these days with the gas prices being so high, but for some of the time period that my parents and I did our road trips gas prices were also high too, and my parents were very frugal so I guess it was still cheaper to travel that way – especially if we were renting cabins, camping or staying in our pop up trailer.

Did you go on road trip vacations with your family when you were a kid? Or do you go on them now with your family?

Planning a vacation? Book your room through hotelreservations.com

April 24, 2007 by Tricia

Well it’s spring. The weather is warming and the kids will be out of school soon. Have you started to plan your summer vacations? What kind of summer vacations do you normally have?

I remember when I was a kid we used to go off for a week or two on a road trip with my parents. They’d pick a destination, like Vermont or British Columbia for example, and we’d drive there, stopping along the way as needed in hotels, motels and even cabins. It was fun, and as an adult I now realize it was a great way for a family to spend some time together, and it was probably cheaper than flying somewhere and staying in a resort.

I guess Chris and I still do those kinds of vacations – except ours are short trips most of the time, just a few hours drive and we’ll stay in a nice resort hotel for a weekend.

So what’s your plans for summer?

If you are going somewhere and will be staying in hotels, motels, resorts or might want to find vacation rentals you should visit Hotel Reservations. If you like road trips like we do, they’ve got a section in the left sidebar of their main page that you use to search for some great places within a short driving distance of your home. Plan your road trip and book your hotels or motels right on the hotelreservations.com site.

The site has Hotel listings for Countries and cities all over the world. You can easily do a search for a particular destination and then look up hotels, motels or resorts in that location. You can often see photos of the rooms and read information about the hotel, it’s location, and even get general driving directions from airports or major highways, and general attractions in the city or general area.

Actually, when you do a search for a hotel, motel or resort you can fill out the dates that you’d like book a room for, the results that come up are the hotels or motels that are available for that time period in that location. If you like what you see you can book your room right then and there. It’s one stop shopping.

I’ve bookmarked this site. Chris and I don’t get away very often and I’ve said many times before that most of our vacations also include friends or family. Now that I’m sick at home, and Chris has a job that gives him most weekends off again perhaps it’s time for a nice little weekend getaway. I mean, Niagara Falls is only a little more than an hour away – we could have a nice little weekend vacation there. Oh that sounds good.
