The Bahamas would make a great vacation spot

July 4, 2007 by Tricia

I’m still dreaming of a fantastic vacation. I think sometime in the next week or two I’ll be booking a holiday. Summer is fairly nice here in Canada so I don’t think I’ll go outside of the country in the next month or two, but maybe a nice island getaway in late September would work.

I’ve been checking out all the Caribbean islands to see which one I’d most like to visit and the Bahamas sounds like a nice place to visit.

I’ve never gone diving and snorkeling, but I know a few people who dive and they’ve told me that the waters around the Bahamas are just beautiful for diving. There are a few areas of the Bahamas that have world renowned Diving and snorkeling.

Oh wait, I have snorkeled but that was a very long time ago! Still it would be fun to try again. I’d love to swim among a school of tropical fish. Perhaps I’d even see a sea turtle. I’d love that!

The Bahamas has a rich history. Did you know the island was once favored by some famous pirates? I think if we went to the Bahamas I’d try to visit some historic sites or museums. I believe that when you travel you should learn a little bit about the country you are visiting.

Naturally I’d also want to try out some native Bahamanian food! I love seafood and I’m pretty sure they’d have some tasty seafood dishes. Plus everyone knows that some of the best rums come from the Bahamas so I’d bet that they have some fantastic rum based drinks.

Have you been to the Bahamas? If you did, what sites did you see while you were there?

Planning a Jamaican Getaway

June 28, 2007 by Tricia

I haven’t had a real vacation in a long time and I think I need one. Everyone deserves to get away every once in a while don’t they?

One of the places that I’ve considered visiting is Jamaica. I’ve been to a few of the Caribbean islands – mostly Dominican Republic because my brother used to live there – but I’d like to be able to say, at some point in my life, that I’ve been to all of the major Caribbean islands.

We have several friends that are from Jamaica and they are always talking about life back home, the foods, the culture, and the attractions that we should see if we ever do go.

I almost feel like I know the island already after talking with or friends about life on the island so much. Even so, when I do begin to plan our Jamaican vacation I’ll be visiting the Jamaica Guide at http://jamaica-guide.info/ so I can plan what we’ll do and see while we’re on vacation.

I know that when we do go to Jamaica that we’ll want to see some of the local arts and entertainment. I love Reggae and Ska and so does Chris and I think it’d be fantastic to listen to this music in the area that it was created. How could anyone go to Jamaica and not want to listen to the local music?

When we do go to Jamaica perhaps we’ll time our vacation so that we’ll be there when our friends make their annual trip home. There’s nothing better than visiting a new area and being shown around by someone that knows the city or country.

Have you been to Jamaica? If you have I’d love to hear what sites I should see when we visit.

This weeks Theme is Shiny

This is a photo of Cloud Gate. It’s a sculpture in Downtown Chicago. Locals call it “The Bean”. It’s amazing! When we were in Chicago I spent more time walking around the bean, and under it, than I did any other sight that I went to in all of Chicago.

Isn’t that amazing?

Here’s a close up view. The large structure that you can see reflected in the background is Millennium Park. I posted a photo of the outdoor theater on my gardening website. You should visit to take a better look at it because it’s an amazing design too.

Cool.

I just loved Chicago. I was only there for three days, but I found that it was very much like Toronto. I felt very much at home there.

Maybe Chris and I will end up going to Chicago again this summer.

BTW when these photo was posted on another site someone wondered if it was photoshopped. Nope. This is the way The Bean looks. It’s just that cool. If you ever go to Chicago you must see Cloud Gate.

Discovery Cruise Lines offers cruise to those who have served

June 10, 2007 by Tricia

Did you know that Discovery Cruise Line has decided to do something that I think is very generous for anyone in the military who is serving or who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan?

How does a one day cruise sound? That’s right. Discovery Cruise Line is offering a complimentary one day cruise from FT. Lauderdale, Florida to Grand Bahama Island. This offer is valid from now until December 31, 2008.

If you’ve served your country and this sounds like a nice break from it all, just visit the Discovery Cruise Line website and click on special offers. At the bottom of that page you’ll find a link titled “To the Men and Women serving overseas” that you can click to find out more information as well as register. Military ID is required in order to qualify for this very special offer.

The one day cruise is absolutely free. All of the costs will be covered, which means the meals, service charge, taxes and Bahamian Departure fees are all covered.

If you know someone who’s serving in the Military now, or who has recently served please let them know about this special offer.

I need a holiday

June 8, 2007 by Tricia

LOL ok in light of what I just said below I think I’m definitely going to plan at least a weeks holiday in the near future. I really think I need a break.

Perhaps I’ll look into one of those Virgin Island yacht charters … well if I come into a lot of money maybe I will. I think it’d be too hot to go to a Caribbean island or another warm location at this time of year.

Perhaps I’ll just rent a cottage for a week in Northern Ontario. That’s more my cup of tea anyway. I haven’t been camping or canoeing in ages and I really miss doing that.

I grew up having a cottage and we went there pretty much every weekend throughout my childhood. I really miss not having a cottage to go to anymore. Hey, maybe what I should do is look into buy a cottage instead of just thinking about renting one. Yes I know cottage properties are pretty darn expensive, but this half city half country girl could sure use a place to retreat to every now and then.
