The roses, oh the roses!

Octavia Hill Rose

My roses are blooming. All of them are blooming! Come visit my backyard and smell their sweet perfume. It’s heavenly.

Three of my rose bushes are taller than I am and they are just covered with scented spring buds and blooms. It’s gorgeous! There’s white ones, pale yellow ones, rich yellow ones, pink ones, pink ones, pink ones, and red ones!

I went out and finally did some work in my garden yesterday. My back is now aching! It as nice to be surrounded by such beauty and scent. My lavender is just about ready to bloom too and I was working with it to straighten it out and the scent of lavender mingled with the beautiful rose scents. Ahhhhh! I must bottle that scent for winter!

The photo above is not this years. I did take some photos while I was out but I haven’t transfered them to my computer yet. Just wait until you see them!

Sadly I lost some roses this winter. You can find out which ones on As the Garden Grows.

New Hosta Leaves

I don’t think there’s anything prettier than the greens of spring. The vibrant colors of new leaves as they grow are just beautiful to me.

This is a photo of new Hosta leaves. I took the photo just after it had rained which of course is why they are covered in water droplets. I actually have an even pretty picture of the hosta leaves on my photo blog Breath of Life if you’d care to take a look at it. I’m actually quite happy with the way both photos turned out.

As you’ve probably noticed I love taking photos of flowers. I think this year I’m going to try to capture the beauty of foliage a little more often than I’ve tried in the past.

Don’t forget to check out the Chive blooms on As the Garden Grows too!

I’m way behind in posting my Green Thumb Sunday post. I thought that I’d be creating a number of posts on Sunday and didn’t want my GTS post to get buried to fast. I might as well have posted this early Sunday morning because I didn’t get around to doing all the posts that I knew were coming until late Sunday evening. Next time!

I hope to get around to all the GTS sites through the week. I will try. I promise!

The Maroon Trillium

Wordless Wednesday

DSC01965 copy

Last Sunday I posted a photo of this flower when it was just a lonely bud. I believe most of the members of my Green Thumb Sunday group that saw the photo urged me to post a photo of this Trillium grandiflora in bloom.

I’m fairly certain the first year this hybrid trillium bloomed it was white – as it should be. However, this year and perhaps last year, it became a maroon colored trillium flower. The hybrid might be reverting back to one of it’s parents. I’m not sure. Either way, it’s an unusual colored flower, and an even more unusual color for a trillium.

Ok ok Trillium photo coming soon!

June 5, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how popular my Trillium Grandiflora photo was that I used for my Green Thumb Sunday post. So many of you have written in saying that you want to see what the plant looks like when it’s blooming that I promise you, I will be posting a photo of the bloom tomorrow, perhaps as my wordless Wednesday post.

The bloom is long gone now. This is another plant that only blooms for a week or two. We had a spell of very hot weather around the time that the buds finally bloomed so the lovely flowers didn’t last long, but I did capture it with my camera.

What, you thought I didn’t? Nah … now you only have to wait a short while and I’ll have a photo of a maroon trillium for you.

I just have to move it from camera to computer, ‘k?

Trillium Grandiflora

White Trillium bud

I took this photo a few weeks ago.

This is a trillium flower. The trillium is Ontario’s provincial flower, and Ontario is the Canadian province that I live in. It’s illegal to pick or dig up wild trilliums here. Why? Well, it takes forever for them to grow. They do not reproduce easily.

This of course is a trillium in my garden. It’s not a wild trillium. No, it’s a cultivated or hybrid trillium.

It’s supposed to be white but when it blooms the flowers are a deep maroon, almost brown in fact. Perhaps it was labeled wrong at the nursery and isn’t a true Trillium Grandiflora. I do have photos of it’s bloom but they are still on my camera. I’ll have to upload them to my computer soon!
