Rain drops on roses ….

July 12, 2007 by Tricia

How does that song go? Rain drops on Roses, whiskers on kittens … these are a few of my favorite things ..

Well here’s the first item on that list:

William Baffin Rose

Last week, I believe it was Tuesday, it rained all day. I looked out the window and the flowers in my garden were just looking magical. I’d been aching to try out my new camera so I took it out with me and before I knew it I’d taken over 100 photos!

I think this photo of a William Baffin turned out fairly well for someone who’s an armature with a digital SLR camera.

When I go through the photos I took that day I can really see how I progressed with my new camera. The first photos looked very ordinary, but within just a few moments the camera felt comfortable in my hand and I began experimenting with a few of the settings.

I didn’t do much experimenting as there was a very light rain falling and my camera soon had a fine mist covering it. Back indoors I went. I did manage to take quite a few photos in 15 or 20 minutes though.

Someone asked recently in the comment area what kind of camera I have. Well I have three now, but the one that I’ve been talking about lately is my new Canon EOS 30D digital SLR camera. I’m still very green with this camera and it’s many features so I can’t really tell anyone much about it. It did have a number of good ratings though and I’m quite pleased with it so far. I think I’ve taken about 400 pictures to date and the majority have turned out well.

Discover a Hobby – a resource site for hobbyists

July 11, 2007 by Tricia

Do you have a hobby? Sure you do. I think almost everyone has a hobby of one kind or another. Anyone who reads this site regularly knows that I have several interests and hobbies ranging from music, gardening, photography to keeping exotic pets.

What are your hobbies?

If you are interested in starting a hobby – a great thing to do if you have just quit smoking or if your trying to lose weight as a hobby will occupy you – or if you have a hobby that you want to learn more about you should visit Discover A Hobby. This site is a free online guide with information on 100 + hobbies.

The creator of the site, Duncan Davis, started this site a year ago and he spent a lot of time collecting links, articles, videos, highly recommended hobby related books and product information and put it all together on the Discover a Hobby site so that those interested in hobbies would be able to find useful information quickly and easily.

The site has information on hobbies ranging from collecting, sports, arts, music, extreme sports, games and one of my personal favs photography.

I’ve already bookmarked the photography section of this site. As you might already know I just purchased a digital SLR camera and while I’ve managed to figure out a lot of things on my own it sure would be nice to visit some sites that explained all the special features and techniques that I’ll now be able to do with my camera. I’m sure I’ll be spending a lot of time at Discover a Hobby.

Check out the site for yourself. I’m pretty sure you’ll find some useful information. You can even submit articles or links to helpful sites if you want to help build the site.

Surrounded by Reflections

Wordless Wednesday

On Saturday Chris and I attended an outdoor art exhibition, then we went to Dundas and Yonge in Toronto to see part of the Toronto street festival where they had “green” exhibits.

The buildings surrounding Dundas and Yonge at Dundas Square have glass panes. I quite like the way they look so I decided to take some photos to show you.

You can click on the photo and visit my Flickr account to see everything I took photos of on Saturday. Warning – I took about 200 photos!

Trying to lose weight? Visit Diet Direct

July 9, 2007 by Tricia

Are you thinking of starting a diet? It’s as good a time as any isn’t it? Well if you are dieting or if you are interested in losing weight you might want to visit Diet Direct.

The creators of this website wanted to build a site where those interested in dieting could purchase top quality diet and weight loss products.

Diet Direct carries a number of well know weight loss products such as WonderSlim, Nature’s Best, ProtiDiet, Syntrax, Protein Rite, Bariatric Lifestyle and many more well known name brands. You’ll also find Protein diet foods, diet pills and patches, supplements and health specific products such as products for the cold and flu, womens health, digestion, and bone and joint health.

Diet direct also weight loss kits. You can purchase the 1 week starter plan right up to a 12 week weight loss kit. The staff at Diet Direct will even help you put together a weight loss start kit that will meet your unique needs. The prices seem fairly reasonable for the starter kits as well.

If you take a moment to visit the site scroll to the bottom of the page. In the bottom of the left menu you’ll see a section marked Diet Articles. I counted 25 articles that range from ones that help to motivate a dieter, to discussing various types of diets, and how to maintain a diet during seasonal holidays or while on vacation. I’m sure you’ll find an article or two that hits a chord with you.

Diet Direct even has a blog at DietWeight.com. There’s lots of posts in it that contain helpful dieting tips. If you need a little motivation check out the blog.

All in all this seems to be a very well thought out site from the products that are available to those who are currently dieting or thinking about a weight loss plan, to the blog and the helpful weight loss related articles. The only thing that might be missing from the site is a dieting and weight loss forum. Perhaps Diet Direct doesn’t need a forum but it would certainly add to the site.

Visit Diet Direct and see what you think.

Passionate about Passion flowers

Passion Flower

I’m sorry that this Green Thumb Sunday post is late. I’ve had a busy weekend and wasn’t able to make my post on early Sunday morning as I normally do.

This photo of a passion flower was taken earlier this week. I took the photo with my new Digital SLR camera. Doesn’t it take a great photo?

I’ve gone nuts over vines this year. A couple of weeks ago I bought two more clematis vines, three different passion flower vines and a tropical vine that I can’t find the name of yet.

This passion flower has a faint scent. You can’t smell it until you actually put your nose to it though. It smells lemony. It’s a lovely fresh scent.

Do you enjoy passion flower vines too?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
