I need more time

July 26, 2007 by Tricia

Hosta leaf water droplets

I keep looking outside at my garden each day. I want to take the time to go out and take photos but I can never seem to find the time to actually do it. I mean – when I go on a photo session, I go on a photo session. I often take over 100 photos!

Naturally if I take 100+ photos I have to process them on my computer and that takes more time.

I don’t have any spare time, so I don’t go in my garden. I just look out the window at it … thinking I should get out there with my camera.

The photos are worth it when I find the time. I just need more time!

A breath of life

July 26, 2007 by Tricia

Breath of Life rose bud

I feel the need to gaze at my garden right now. I can’t of course because it’s the middle of the night. I’ll settle for looking at this lovely rose for now.

I thought my week would get better once I got my sites back up and running on the new web host, but yesterday something upsetting happened that stressed me throughout the afternoon and evening.

My husband got sick at work and ended up in emerg. Luckily he also works at the hospital so he didn’t have far to go!

I’ll explain further in a few hours, but for now I’ll just say that a couple of years ago the same thing kept happening and the docs thought that he had a very serious heart problem. They never fully ruled that out either. So yeah, I’m a bit worried for him right now.

I got my canvas and I love it!

July 17, 2007 by Tricia

On July 5th I wrote stating that I was going to send one of my photos to Canvas on Demand to have it made into a 16 x 20″ canvas. I decided to send this photo in:

monarch2

It’s a photo of a butterfly that I literally chased around my yard for a week trying to get a photo. It only allowed me about five minutes of that whole week to take photos and I snapped quite a few. I believe this was the best of the bunch.

I went to the Canvas on Demand website and following the very simple instruction I choose the size and style of canvas that I wanted, the frame type and uploaded my photo.

The company sent an email shortly after I completed my order and we corresponded by email as to when the canvas would be complete. They must have started working on it pretty much right away because my lovely canvas arrived on July 13th, only 8 days after I’d ordered it!

Talk about fast! They say it takes four days to create a canvas, then they had to ship it from North Carolina to Toronto, Canada. Honestly the earliest I thought I might get my fabulous canvas was July 20th or later given how slow some delivery companies can be.

Would you like to see my beautiful new canvas? Here you go:

That photo really doesn’t do it justice. I’ll try to get an even better one, perhaps once I’ve decided where to hang it. It’s lovely though isn’t it? The butterfly looks so real. It makes you want to reach out and touch it. When our relatives visited this past weekend they just loved the canvas and might even get one of their own.

The canvas is so beautiful that I’m actually thinking of getting some of my other photos made into canvas’. They’d make great gifts at Christmas time or even for a birthday.

I just had a bright idea. If you’ve been reading this site for a year you might remember that last August Chris and I were part of a Hindu wedding ceremony when Chris’ cousin got married. Their anniversary is coming up in a month and one of the photos that I took at their wedding might make a beautiful anniversary gift. After seeing my own canvas I’m certain they’d love it.

I love Canvas on Demand.

They were in touch with me throughout the whole process so I can honestly say that they have excellent customer service. As for their product – well you can see the results for yourself. Their canvas’ are beautiful.

I’m just so pleased!

If you’ve ever thought of doing something like this please think of visiting Canvas on Demand. You won’t regret it.

Maltese Cross – a flower?

Maltese Cross flower

The other day when I was experimenting with my new camera while out in the rain I discovered a perfect looking Maltese Cross bloom. I took several photographs of it, getting closer and closer as I did.

The cluster of flowers is actually only an inch or so in diameter so you can imagine just how close I was zooming in to get this close up.

Don’t the petals actually have a bit of a plasticized look to them?

The Maltese cross is a great plant to grow. It’s fairly hardy. I think it’s a zone 3 or 4 plant. The plant grows tall stalks that develop flower buds on their tips which develop into clusters of flowers as shown above. There’s often 20+ stalks at a time.

My Maltese Cross plants bloom at least twice a year. Usually in late June to early July and then I cut down the stalks when the flowers are finished. The plant then blooms once more in late August or early September. The flowers tend to last for about two weeks at a time.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

This weeks theme is shadows

I took this photo last weekend at the art show. I’m not sure if that’s mine or my husbands shadow on the metal lady, but a shadow it is!

This was another spectacular piece of metal artwork at the outdoor art exhibition. This piece was made from an old oil tank! I give it bonus points for recycling!

Sorry I’m behind on this post. We had guests drop in on us yesterday and they turned into weekend house guests!
