What a bonanza

Daylily Bonanza

This is an old day lily called Bonanza. I’m not certain how old this hybrid is, but I believe it was created 40 or more years ago.

It’s a fantastic performer in the garden. I think mine is on it’s third flush of blooms this summer. It might even have bloomed more times than that but it’s at least three times.

I like day lilies for their dependable blooms. Particularly those that re-bloom. Do you grow day lilies?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

A day at the beach

This weeks theme is Happy

IMG_0724

A couple of weeks ago my husbands brother and his kids came to visit from Chicago. We had a very busy few days while they stayed in our home!

While they were here we had some old friends over and sat in the garden talking and having fun one evening. Another day we went to the big Toronto festival “Taste of the Danforth” and then there were shopping trips with the teenage kids, a little sight seeing, dinners out and a nice trip to the beach.

I think the day that we went to the beach and just relaxed with our friends was the nicest day. Certainly that was the day that I was happiest.

Naturally I brought my camera to the beach that day and the photo I’ve included in this post was taken that day at in “the beaches” area of Toronto.

The sky’s alive with lightening

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Well we’re having that heat wave that I mentioned we were going to have. The odd thing is that they’ve keep saying it’s going to rain but it’s done no more than spit a little bit.

Right now … at almost 6 a.m. the skies are lighting up with sheet lightening. It’s beautiful to watch. I should get my camera out and take some photos. Hmm maybe I will haul out the camera.

What’s odd is that there’s absolutely no rain and I’m sure that there won’t be any. We need rain badly, but the clouds, lightening and distant thunder are all a tease.

How’s the weather been in your part of the world?

Looking for a good price on Canon EF lenses

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Moulinex rose

Have I told you lately just how much I love my digital camera?

I’d done some research on digital SLR cameras as I’d been looking at them on and off for well over a year before I actually purchased my Canon EOS 30D, but by most peoples standards I probably didn’t do as much research as I should have. Still, I got a great camera and even better I purchased it at a great price.

Just look at that photo of my lovely rose.

I’ve been looking for some lens for my new camera. It came with an 18 mm to 55 mm lens, but I want to get a macro lens and a telephoto lens as they’ll suit the type of photography that I tend to do most often.

I went looking for lenses and found some a several sites, but they’re so expensive! Even the camera model that I bought seems to be much more expensive as most of the stores that specialize in the sale of digital cameras as they just sell the camera body without a lens for the same price or more than what I paid!

Actually, even though my camera was a good price (it was about $1,300 so yeah it was expensive) I managed to get a couple hundred off the price because the stores competitor was selling the same model a little cheaper so they lowered the price for me. This enabled me to get a special camera kit, a side multi battery handle and an extra battery.

Now I need to find a good deal on lens. Should I check on eBay? Dare I?

Your Life in Canvas – Check out PaintYourLife

August 20, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever thought how nice it would be to turn your favorite photo from your wedding into a canvas painting? Or perhaps you have a lovely photo of your parents together or your children that would make a beautiful portrait painting.

Well I’m pleased to tell you that PaintYourLife has made it possible to turn your photos into paintings.

PaintYourLife states that all their work is 100% handmade by portrait artists and as you can see from the photo that I’ve included above the paintings are of high quality.

I took a few moments to look through PaintYourLife’s gallery, looking at before and after comparisons of photos that had been sent in my clients and the paintings that the portrait artists had created and the work is just amazing.

It’s very easy to have a painting made of a favorite photo too. All you need to do is find a clear photo that you’d like to have made into a canvas. You can turn photos of people, pets, buildings or landscapes into paintings. It doesn’t have to be a high quality photo but if it’s a high quality photo all the better. You can send your photo to PaintYourLife via a digital upload or by postal mail.

Once you’ve picked out the photo that you want to have turned into a painting just visit the PaintYourLife site and fill out the request form. You can choose to have your painting done in oil, watercolor, charcoal, black or color pencil, pastel or acrylic. Then all you need to do is decide what size you want your painting and then tell the company whether you want the canvas sent to you unframed, Stretch canvas (Gallery wrap) or pick out a frame.

Doesn’t that sound easy?

Believe it or not once you send in your photo it can be made into a canvas in as little as 10 days! You’ll also get to preview your painting before it’s shipped to you.

I bet you think this service is expensive. It’s not really. You can get hand painted oil portraits or watercolor portraits for as little as $99. That’s quite affordable when you consider the high quality of the painting you’ll receive.

PaintYourLife portrait paintings would not only make a lovely addition to your home, but a beautiful gift for someone you love.
