I need to buy my puppy a flute or a horn

June 18, 2008 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Midnight loves chewing on her bone. It keeps her occupied when we’re busy or when we’re trying to watch TV.

Oddly enough she doesn’t just chew the bone. No … she sticks her nose in the hollow end and blows into it.

IMG_3887 All we can hear when she’s doing this are weird huffing, snuffling sounds. I swear she’d probably be able to make sound come out of a horn or flute if we got her one.

Of course this is the dog that also likes to play in her water by ducking her nose into it in order to blow bubbles.

Does anyone else have a dog that blows bubbles in their water dish or who sticks their nose into things – frequently?

She’s very nose oriented I guess ….

Garden awash in flowers

My garden is alive with flowers this week. Almost all of the rose bushes are heavy with spring blooms and other flowers like my Johnson’s Blue Geranium are going wild.

Here’s a close up of one of the tiny flowers:

Needless to say, Chris and I are enjoying the garden this year. The plants are healthy and many are quite a bit taller than they were last year at this time thanks to the heavy winter snow coverage they got a few months ago. I’m sure that protected them and helped keep them healthy.

Even the bumble bees are enjoying the garden. Here’s a little fellow collecting pollen from a tulip.

How is your garden doing this week? Is it full of blooms too?

A cluster of lovely red tulips

fringed red tulips

These tulips are long gone, but I couldn’t help wanting to show you how lovely a group of brilliant red fringed tulips look when a group of them are growing together in a garden bed.

These beauties made a lovely distraction as they were growing in front of several roses that were just growing their leaves as the tulips were blooming. Now the tulips are gone and the rose bushes are full of leaves and in the last few days the rose bushes have started blooming too.

Colorful tulips!

We’re currently having a heatwave and thunder storms here in Toronto. My flowers are blooming, but once the weather gets done with them I’m not sure that they’ll have any petals left!

Here’s a look at some tulips that were blooming up until the last week or so:

orange tulips

As well as this fiery red fringed tulip –

I’m afraid the heat and rain ruined their blooms, but like I said the roses are blooming. There’s always something to enjoy in my garden.

BTW yes this post is a day late. I had yet another eye allergy on Saturday that left me with both eyes painful, blurry and sensitive to light for two days. I wasn’t able to post or do much of anything. Hence the late post. Sorry!

Lily flowering tulips really do look like lilies

You might remember that I’ve posted some photos of what are called Lily flowering tulips. Some of their petals are longer than the rest and when the tulip is just beginning to open it had an unusual yet lovely appearance.

The lily flowering tulip is most lily like when it’s fully open … this one is just about done it’s bloom and is staying open all the time. Wouldn’t you have mistaken it for a lily if I hadn’t told you it was a tulip?

If you have a garden make sure you look at your plants and flowers every few days so that you can see how they change as they age. I find it very interesting!
