Irritation

September 21, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things that are irritating
1. Don’t you just hate it when people call and, if you don’t answer, they don’t leave a message? Sometimes I come home and find that the same number called 10 times yet didn’t leave a message. Hello, you obviously want to talk to either me or my husband, let us know what it’s about and maybe we’ll call you back.

2. Infomercials. I’m often up late at night because of the pain in my tum and I have the TV on to keep me company. By 2 a.m. most of the lower numbered channels have all gone to infomercials.

3. Not only are there too many infomercials on, but can they at least get people who can act? Has anyone seen the Magic Bullet infomercial? I think that one should win an award for worst acting, it’s hilarious. To be honest I think that’s the only one I’ve watched in full. I have no idea why I watched it, but I did. None of the others with their cheesy sets and horrible scripts have ever held my attention long enough for me to watch more than 1 or 2 minutes.

4. I have the TV on now and Fear Factor is on. I can handle watching the stunts – but when it gets to the disgusting stuff that the contestants have to eat I usually watch and gag along with them. Right now I’m watching people eat 100 year old eggs, hot peppers, live ants and get this “Fermented squid guts”. Ewww

5. Speaking of eating and drinking for that matter, people that make a lot of sounds when they eat or drink irritate me. I hate slurpers!

6. Or when people eat with their mouth open … that mushy chewing breathy sound. Drives me nuts!

7. Back to the phone again. Telemarketers always seem to call when your busy don’t they? Most of the time I just let the phone ring and I don’t answer it if I don’t recognize the number, but sometimes a number looks familiar so I answer and find I’m being asked to take a survey and divulge my secret interests and habits, or else someones telling me I’ve won a trip to a resort. Yah right- how much is it going to cost me to go on this free trip?

8. I’ve got an answering machine through the phone company and sometimes businesses and telemarketers get through and leave messages without making the phone ring at all. I call these backdoor messages. Now that’s irritating.

9. Yesterday I noticed that the message button was flashing on my phone so I called in to check my messages and I discovered that I had a message marked private. I’ve never had a message marked private before. Odd. You know what it was? It was a message from a local politician recommending his party for the upcoming elections. Here’s a big tip for that guy – If you want my vote have a human call me and talk to me, don’t leave a pre-recorded message on my answering machine after sneaking in the backdoor and marking it private. Geesh!

10. I guess if we have elections coming up we’ll have people from that same political party sneaking around putting campaign signs on lawns without peoples permission like they did last time. They did that to two of my elderly neighbors who don’t speak English well. There is no way that they would have given permission for the signs.

11. Bl0gmad and my credits getting eaten up so quickly – as quick as I can surf sometimes. Hey guys, I want total control over my credits. I have three sites on Bl0gmad and I’d like to be able to set exactly how many credits each site goes through each day. Right now I’m going through more than 300 credits per day on the site and for all I know perhaps only one of my sites is being rotated.

12. Karaoke neighbors, specifically my Karaoke neighbors. It seems to be the season. They had a party last Sunday of all days and by 2 in the afternoon they were blaring their Karaoke machine. Now this wouldn’t be so bad if 1. it wasn’t so loud, 2. If they could actually sing or 3. if they played more than 10 different songs. It’s going to be a long Winter if they really get into it again this year.

13. And finally, the last thing that’s irritating me right now is pain meds that don’t work, and that make you itchy as a side effect. It seems lately that at least once a week when I take a particular pain pill I become severely itchy all over. I don’t know why. Perhaps some food I ate for dinner combines with the meds and sets off the itchy side effect? Odd, but very irritating.

Have a great Thursday!

Oh a Bonus – Another thing that irritated me all day yesterday. People adding their link to Mr. Linky but not leaving a comment. Sorry, I don’t care if you were a Wordless Wednesday participant or not. If you want your link to stay on my site you need to leave a comment, otherwise I remove it.

Having said that:

Problems with Internet connection

August 31, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things about My downed Internet Connection

1…. We installed a wireless connection (new router) about three weeks ago

2…. Ever since we installed it I’ve found that our Internet connection would go down here and there.

3…. Sometimes I could fix the outage by unplugging our cable modem and our router and then plugging them back in again.

4…. Other times I just had to wait and hour or two. Very inconvenient when you are trying to use WordPress to type your posts online.

5…. On Wednesday, as I was using my computer my connection disappeared again. I waited a little while and then I went and unplugged the modem and router and then plugged them back in again.

6…. Still no Internet connection. Hmm is the router working ok or not?

7…. I started looking at the various Internet and network related connections on my computer(s) and I couldn’t find anything wrong.

8…. So I went and pushed the reset button on the router. It still didn’t work, so I pushed it again.

9…. Then I got the bright idea to try to reinstall the router connection so I put the CD in my computer and skipped all the steps like connecting the computer to the modem and the router since that was already done and got into testing the connection. It couldn’t find an Internet connection and it wanted me to input my the IP address that my ISP had given me. I couldn’t do that since my ISP gives me a new IP address each time I connect.

10…. So, before calling Linksys for support, I thought I’d better call my cable ISP – Rogers to find out the settings information that the Linksys people might ask about as they tried to help me.

11…. I ended up speaking with a very nice technician named Kelly. We tried several different steps to try to get my computer to get a new IP address. Nothing worked.

12…. She did some testing while my modem was unplugged and discovered a problem on their end of the line. Apparently the TL1000 – some kind of connection in my neighborhood – has a problem. My modem apparently connects to this device in order to connect to the Internet.

13…. She put in a support ticket to have it fixed, but she was unable to tell me whether they had to physically fix the TL1000 or if they could fix it or reset it remotely. When I asked how long it might take to fix the answer was – “24 to 48 hours, perhaps sooner.”

So here I sit, waiting for my connection to come back up. She set it up so that I’ll get an automated phone call from Rogers when the TL1000 is working again. Then I’ll have to figure out if I messed up my router when I hit reset. My home network of computers are still all connected so that part of the router is working. I just need that Internet connection.

If this post doesn’t end up getting posted until Friday or even Saturday- that’s why.

Happy Thursday!

BTW I seem to have a tenuous connection at the moment so I’m setting this up to be posted at Midnight. Wish me luck!

Bye Bye B*tch

Thirteen Things about Why it will be great when the Princess leaves

The Princess is our boarder from hell.

She’s leaving here at 8 a.m. Friday morning, going to school and then heading to the airport to go back home to Korea immediately after school.

YEaaaaaaaaHHHHHHHhhhhh!

1…. I won’t have someone around telling me what time I have to make dinner by so that SHE can go out with her friends.

2…. I won’t have someone around who doesn’t call when she’s decided not to come home for dinner.

3…. I can actually keep some eggs in the house again. She went through about 9 cartons in the 2.5 months she’s been here!

4…. I won’t have to hide my good pans anymore – the ones that she scratched up and ruined by using metal utensils in.

5…. We can keep some pop in the fridge again, or at least not hide it behind other fridge items. She’d help herself to at least 5 a day – and her room and board did NOT cover extras like that, or all the other items she helped herself to.

6…. We’ll be able to use our own phone whenever we want to now. She uses our phone at least three hours a day now, even when we say we are expecting calls. I’ve taken to hiding the phone or being on it when she’s home.

7…. We can leave our mail, my purse, and Chris’ wallet where we usually do without fear of her going through them. She did that a few times. Plus I just don’t trust her anymore so all the valuable and personal stuff is inconveniently upstairs in our room.

8…. We can watch a TV show without being interrupted 20 times.

9…. She fried a keyboard by spilling water on it and didn’t tell us it was broken for a week, then she download a program and installed it on the computer causing the computer to get a virus (one rule was no downloading or installing). That was the straw that broke the camels back so we removed the computer from her room. Now she always wants to use my computer and has sneaked onto it early in the morning. So …

10…. Now I won’t have to unplug my computer cord and hide it each day to keep her off my computer when I’m not around. (she can use it when I’m around- but not without asking first … and this girl doesn’t ask for anything, she demands)

11…. I won’t have anyone in my home that talks to me rudely, and makes me feel like a servant. I feel used and abused.

12…. We won’t get woken up in the morning by slamming doors and clomping down the stairs.

13…. We’ll have our own space in our own home again. But only for a week and a half. 🙁 We have a Brazilian man coming to stay with us for a month starting on September 7th. He’s 31 so hopefully he’s mature and doesn’t end up being a handful like the princess has been, but who knows!

Soon this turmoil will end. This girl is the most selfish person I think I’ve ever met. I walk around all day with this feeling of hate inside me and man all of the worst words you can call a female are rumbling around inside my head when I think of her or when she does whatever the latest outrageous thing she does. I’m just so angry and I hate feeling this way. I’m never like this.

God, I can’t wait until I start feeling better and getting healthy again so that I can get back to work and we won’t have to have boarders anymore.

Non Venom

August 10, 2006 by Tricia

Loosely structured Thursday Thirteen (16)

  1. I was going to write a venomous Thursday 13 about our border, but I’m just too tired. I have to get up early this morning to go to a Hindu Wedding at 10:30 a.m.
  2. My husband is going to be playing music after the ceremony with a band. One of the musicians is Ravi Shankar’s grandson, so it should be very interesting. Oh, and Chris came home from practicing on Wednesday night with his outfit. I can’t remember the formal name but it’s a tunic and loose cotton pants. Kinda looks like Pajamas. I took a picture with him dressed in it and I’m sure I’ll have more from the wedding and the mini-concert.
  3. On Friday there is another wedding for the couple. This one will be a catholic ceremony followed by a reception. It’s at a normal time thankfully, but it’s still an odd day.
  4. Then, this weekend we have a festival here in Toronto called “The Taste of the Danforth”. Since we live nearby, I’d like to try to get there once or twice. There are bandstands with musicians, lots of great food and drink and about a million happy people wandering around. Oh and it’s also walking distance too.
  5. The reason why I was going to write a venomous post about our boarder is because she’s still driving me nuts! Thankfully, she’s decided to go back home to Korea on August 25th. Whether she goes back to Korea or not she’s definitely going to be out of our house on that day. I’ve had enough.
  6. Two weeks ago she accidentally knocked over a water glass in her room. She used half a box of tissues to clean up the spill. She told me about it that day, but I had forgotten about it later that evening when she called me up because her computer wouldn’t turn on. I finally got it started after unplugging it and resetting it, but it simply wouldn’t start up when I tried at the beginning.
  7. Then, this past Sunday she told us that her keyboard hasn’t been working for oh, four or five days. Hmmm how about since last Saturday when you spilled water all over it? She offered to replace it, but said it in a way that, to us, seemed like she was hoping we’d say it was ok and that we’d replace it. Uh huh, ’cause by this time I’d realized why the computer wouldn’t start the weekend before. She’s lucky she didn’t have to replace the whole computer.
  8. Now I know accidents happen, but why didn’t she tell us about the keyboard sooner. She just seems so sneaky.
  9. Last night we found a broken ceramic plate on the stove. I’m forgetting what they are called … you know, the kind of thing that you place a hot dish or hot pot on when you don’t want to ruin a table because the dish is so warm. Yeah, whatever that’s called. Well, we had this on our stove in an area that never has any heat, but it’s ceramic, it’s heat resistant. She must have dropped it or placed it over a burner that was turned on, because it had all these tiny cracks all over it, but two whole pieces had broken off and were lying on the stove when we found it. I asked her on Wednesday evening if she dropped it or turned the heat on under it and she said no. I guess we must have gremlins in the house then ’cause neither Chris nor I broke it.
  10. Chris spent all day Wednesday with the groom “to be” practicing music. The bride to be wasn’t amused and ended up doing a lot of the final preparations for the wedding on her own. So I ended up going over to her home Wednesday evening to calm her down. Man was she angry and frustrated. It seems that her Maid of Honor hasn’t been of any use to her and she felt that everything was going wrong. I did the ” it’s your day, and only you and him matter tomorrow” speech and that made her feel somewhat better.
  11. When I left the house my boarder and I had just finished dinner. Actually she was still eating. When I came back home at midnight she’d just left her dishes- some still with food on them on the table and the counter in the kitchen. She doesn’t have to do her dishes, but we’ve asked her to at least rinse them after she’s used them. So I had a mess to clean up at midnight.
  12. I also discovered that she drank my coke that I had tucked in the back of the fridge near the eggs. We’ve been limiting the supply of pop in the house because she’s been drinking more than the two of us combined. She pays room and board – but that doesn’t include snacks, and I think 4 or 5 soft drinks falls in to the snack category doesn’t it? She can buy her own if she wants to drink that much. I shouldn’t have to hide our food and drink now should I? We’ve told her what she can and can’t have, and what she can and can’t use, but she doesn’t listen.
  13. She’d made her own sandwich for her lunch tomorrow. Yeah she’s back to sandwiches again … so much for the sushi that we purchased all the supplies for, for her. Sigh … Curious me … I was wondering how she found my coke since it was near the eggs at the back. Ah ha we’d only had two eggs left and now we only had only one. So she used an egg. Her sandwich is in a baggie in the fridge and when I took a better look at it I could see that she’d fried and egg for it. How does fried egg, ham and uh cucumber sound for a sandwich? Whatever floats your boat.
  14. Now, a week ago I’d asked her to stop using my good frying pan because she kept using a metal spoon in it and she’d scratched the coated surface. It’s from a very expensive set that was a wedding gift and well, if someones going to ruin it it’d better be me. So we actually went out and bought her her own pan to use for cooking. It’s quite nice, a good quality stir fry pan, so she can cook her fried rice, eggs or whatever she wants in it.
  15. Did she use the new pan when she cooked the egg? Nope! I found the pan that I’d asked her NOT to use, not very well cleaned, in the cupboard. So that means that she left her dirty food filled dishes on the table and counter but cooked an egg and cleaned (sorta) the pan and put it away. Weird … Why wash one thing and not even scrape the food off the others? I’d only do that if I was being sneaky … and to me that was sneaky. My good pans are now hidden.
  16. The last one is the best of course. As soon as we came in the door at midnight she started telling me how expensive her flight to Korea was going to be, but that she’d found a good price on the internet. Could she use OUR credit card to buy her ticket? My jaw hit the floor, she’d been talking all along like she had a credit card. I don’t feel comfortable with that at all … I believe she was trying to tell me that she would give us cash for the use of our card, but I still don’t like that, not after all that’s been going on, and not when I’d assumed by many other things she’s said over the last few months that she had her own card. Trying to think quickly because she’d shocked me with her boldness I told her our card was maxed out. She was upset then- like we owed this to her? and was saying “Oh what am I going to do?”. Now, she’s been talking to her mom every day on the phone, so I asked if her parents have a credit card and why not use it. No … I want to use my Canadian money. Well then why don’t you just transfer your Canadian money to your parents so they can apply that to their credit card when they pay for the ticket. No can do- Korean money is worth less. I don’t get that. Yes there is a difference in the exchange rate but money is money and if it’s transferred it should end up being the correct amount in Korean funds. I think 90 cents Canadian is equal to 1000 Korean dollars.

I’m just fed up with her. I feel like she’s being sneaky and as a result we actually have to hide things in our own home to keep them away from her. I can’t wait for her to be GONE!

So I did write about the boarder after all. Please feel free to put in as many nasty words as you can think of where they seem appropriate. I took the venom out of the post. But not out of my mind. I’ve only told you the tip of the iceberg parts of this story. It’s just horrendous living with this #$#%$$^%^% . I have the nastiest words of all floating in my head about once every minute, every day. Words I never use because I think they are totally disgusting- but they are in my head and totally directed at her these days. It’s going to be nice to be away from her, here and there over the next few days, but then I’ll also be worried about what she’s doing in my home. Can’t win.
