Astilbes blooming in the garden. The Astilbes are blooming for the second time for some reason this year. They’ve never bloomed twice before. I’m enjoying their nice pink feathery stalks.

Sorry I’m so late posting this today. Life got in the way!

Todays Green Thumb entry is a perennial plant called Maltese Cross:

maltisecross1

This photo was taken earlier this year in late May or early June when the Maltese cross was first blooming. I’ve just discovered that the plant has started it’s second bloom phase. I think this second bloom phase might be a little early, perhaps I’ll get blooms three times this year?

Jasmine Sambac

jasminesambuc

I believe this is Jasmine Sambac. We purchased this plant from Home depot a couple of years ago and if you’ve ever bought tropical plants there you know their labels don’t say much.

Heck sometimes they just say tropical plant. Yeah, that helps.

Our Jasmine had a rough winter in the house and while it looked healthy enough it didn’t want to start to bloom until now. This is one of the first blooms in at least 8 months. However, it’s covered in buds so I think I’m going to get my jasmine fix.

Does anyone else keep Jasmine plants? Can you identify this for me? The bloom last at least three days and it’s open during the day time – not just at night.

Enjoy your Sunday!

In the last three years I’ve expanded my garden to include the boulevard in front of our house. This area is planted with Sunflowers, Day Lilies, Dalhia, Delphinium, Morning Glory vine, Salvia, Marigolds, Alysium, Alaskian Daisies, and Peonies.

We planted this area for both our enjoyment and for our neighbors enjoyment. Also, we are one of the only houses for blocks to have planted the boulevard, so it’s pretty easy for visitors to find our house.

This plant – Beebalm – is very easy to grow. It blooms in late June to early July and keeps blooming right until frost. The leaves are scented and can be made into a tea similar to that of Earl Grey tea.
