Aching all over after a klutzy fall!

June 8, 2012 by Tricia

I haven’t been doing much in the last two days. I somehow managed to severely injure myself yet again. It seems that at least once a year I do something really klutzy that takes weeks to heal. Last year it was falling down the stairs. This year … well ..

Early Thursday morning I was wandering into the kitchen for a drink of water and as I returned to the living room I tripped on a huge metal extension ladder that my husband left in the living room the prior evening. Yup … he’d been doing some reno work and he didn’t put the ladder away like he should have. He left it right in the hallway between the living room and the kitchen – kind of unavoidable – and since I was walking around in the semi dark and I was sleepy I must have either forgotten it was there for a moment or caught my foot on it and the next thing I knew I was literally falling on the ladder and under a small table that we have a big turtle tank on … and I’m very lucky the huge turtle tank didn’t land on me as well.

My whole left side is bruised. The worst of it is my left hand and wrist, my left chest and my left lower thigh. Everything that hurt started swelling and bruising immediately so at first I put ice on my worst wounds but as my hand swelled and looked like my thumb was dislocated and I became worried that my hand was actually broken we decided to go to the hospital.

My worst injuries:

swollen and bruised hand

Badly bruised lower thigh

I spent 6 hours or more in the Emergency room getting xrays and waiting around. I was there from a little bit after three in the morning until after 9 am. They weren’t sure if my hand was broken or not. I definitely have a sprained tendon in my thumb and left arm and I need to get more xrays next week to rule out a break in my hand. In the meantime I’m supposed to rest and ice my wounds and take quite a bit of Advil.

I feel like I’ve been in a car accident! I ache every time I move! I don’t think anyone at www.carangel.com would want me though! LOL

I’m hoping that my hand isn’t broken and that if feels better quickly because naturally I’m left handed and as luck would have it I happen to have a lot of writing that I need to do in the next few days and that’s not easy to do when you have to type one or two fingered. LOL Looks like that’s the way it’s going to be for a little while though! Wish me luck!

Are you an organized blogger or do you just blog when the mood strikes you?

July 29, 2008 by Tricia

I’m so proud of myself. I’ve been in a writing mood the last few days and I’ve managed to write up several articles for five of my blogs. In some cases I’ve written a couple of weeks worth of articles!

I’ve set up several of the articles to publish on dates in the future. On some of the blogs the articles will be published daily, on others there will be a new article every second day.

The first year or so that I was blogging I always had a few draft articles stored up. I usually tried to complete the articles so I could publish them whenever I had writers block or felt too ill to write that day although sometimes the stored drafts were only outlines or ideas for posts that I could easily complete when needed.

As I got busier and added more blogs to my little network I fell out of the habit or perhaps lacked the time to prepare articles in advance. For me, this was one of the worst things that could have happened. I enjoy writing, but there’s always that pressure – mostly self pressure – to write something new each day and for the article to hopefully be informative, entertaining or both.

When you are juggling several blogs and perhaps a website or two as I am time management is very important. I feel like I’ve been running in circles the last few months trying to answer email, maintain blogrolls and mailing lists, write new posts and visit other bloggers and all the rest of the stuff that goes along with being a webmaster.

As a result I was beginning to have trouble prioritizing my tasks. I was constantly asking myself – should I be visiting other bloggers and trying to comment on their sites? Should I be spending the next hour or two answering the emails that have built up? Answering blog comments? Adding new blogs to the Do Follow list, my Green Thumb Sunday blogroll or the other blogrolls that I maintain? Look for a new way to monetize my site? Change the theme or layout of one of my blogs? Arghhhhh …. With so many websites I could literally work 24 hours a day maintaining them and networking and still not get everything done that I should be doing to promote my sites.

So I’m sure you can see why I’m so happy that five of my blogs have a number of new articles preset to post on future dates over the next two weeks or so. Maybe I’ll be able to finally write a few articles for some of my very badly neglected blogs!

I think that I would be more organized and not have fallen so behind in my site maintenance if 1. I was healthier and 2. if I didn’t have so many websites. Perhaps it’s time for me to think about shutting down my neglected blogs?

How do you blog?

Are you organized or unorganized?

Do you just write a post when the mood strikes you? Or do you write up articles in advance and set them to publish on future dates?

Do you have one or several blogs?

Whatever your answer, do you schedule time to do certain tasks related to blogging? Networking, promoting, commenting on other blogs, writing posts and so on?

If you do have a blogging schedule I’d love to hear what yours is – how you plan your tasks and how much time you allot to each task daily, weekly or monthly.

If you’ve never done so, I’d highly recommend writing a few draft articles when the mood strikes you. You’ll find they come in handy when you’re not up to writing or have no time to blog. It does take a while to get into the habit of blogging in this manner, but once you start doing it you’ll find that you’re able to do other blogging related tasks and likely that the articles you publish are of a higher quality because you weren’t under pressure to post “something” when you were writing it.

Lost Posts and Travel Deals

April 1, 2008 by Tricia

I lost a post. Earlier today I started writing a post about how we’re finally getting our DLP TV fixed. It actually ended up being kind of a rant about the company that we had purchased the TV from in the first place.

I was almost done the post, but then I noticed the time. Chris and I each had an appointment with our family doctor. So I saved the post and shut down the laptop. Unfortunately when I logged back into WP I couldn’t find the post. Grrrr.

I haven’t lost a post for a long time. I wonder what the heck happened. Certainly I was writing it for long enough that WordPress should have backed it up automatically.

Oh well. The moment is gone, and I’m sure it wasn’t the most interesting post.

I do have a couple of Travelocity deals for any of you that might be planning a trip in the future though!

NOTE: The first On the Spot deal expires today so if $46 one way airfares sounds good to you take advantage of this offer!

and then there’s this deal which offers a great price for round trip airfare. You’ve got until April 4th to take advantage of this one.

Enjoy!

Oh BTW I did find that other post. I’d meant to write it on this blog, but I guess I accidentally started it on one of my other blogs! Oops! I guess I’m still recovering from the flu. Yeah … that’s it … blame it on the flu.

He’s in a writing mood

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I are still hoping to get out of the house with our puppy sometime today. Oh she’s been taken on walks but we want to go for a walk somewhere different. In fact, our dog trainer gave all of us an assignment which was to give our dogs a new experience this week. Ours was going to be going to the beach yesterday but that never happened.

We haven’t gone out yet because Chris is finally on a role writing some new posts for his blogs. He hasn’t had much time nor been that into writing about music, guitars or musicians lately and his blogs have suffered from a lack of posts as a result. Finally he’s been inspired to write though, so he’s busy preparing some posts that will go up over the week.

I’m filling my time by making new posts too of course. Did you see that last one I posted? The people in the village of Galaxida won’t need any skin lightening treatments today as I’m sure all that flour that they’re throwing around will lighten their skin just fine. LOL Take a look at the video if you have a moment.

Finally upgrading my WP sites and their plugins!

March 7, 2008 by Tricia

Over the last few days I’ve spent a good portion of my time updating all of my blogs. All of the new ones – the hush hush ones – have been updated to WP 2.3.3. It was easy to do because I was able to use Fantasico in my web hosting C-Panel to do it.

Now I have to update all of the blogs on this domain! Argh … I’ve moved those blogs to new web hosts twice in the last year and the last time was a manual update so this time round all the blogs will have to be manual updated too. It’s ok to do one or two manually, but when you have seven or eight that need to be upgraded manually it’s a pain in the butt! By the time I’m done I’ll be the WordPress upgrading queen! (17 blogs later!)

I’d also been having trouble on all my blogs when I’d try to save or publish a new post. A few months ago I had some kind of conflict occur when I upgraded my bad behavior plugin and the Google Sitemaps plugin on the same day. Ever since then I’d always get an error message when I saved or published a post. The posts were published but I’d have to check to be sure. It was a pain! I didn’t realize it but it was also messing up the do follow tags on my sites too. So there was a conflict between three plugins!

Luckily I discovered that there was yet another new Bad Behavior plugin update as well as a new Google XML sitemaps plugin. I updated those two plugins and refreshed my permalinks and TADA everything works right again!

Now I just hope that I don’t have any problems with my wordpress themes when I upgrade the sites on Feverishthoughts.com to the most recent WP upgrade. I think all my blogs on this domain are using 2.2.1 so it’ll be a big upgrade. If you drop by and notice that one of my feverishthoughts blogs is sporting a new very plain bare bones theme then you’ll know something strange happened when I updated the platform. It will only be temporary.

Once all that is done I can get back to work on the new blogs. One is a home and garden blog that will discuss mostly home type topics (my gardening blog will go back to mainly gardening!) such as decor, interior decorating, great recipes, tips for around the home and so on. The other blog is a shopping blog where I’ll talk about fashion trends, cosmetics, new home decor designs – who knows I’m sure I’ll even talk about platform beds on one or both!

Working on those two sites has inspired me again. I’m full of ideas and of course every time I find something cool to write about I also want to go out and buy it. I’ll be unveiling these new blogs shortly and I really hope that you like them. I’m trying to keep it fun, interesting and of course full of helpful information.

Have any of you updated your sites recently? Did it go well?

Anyone start any new blogs too? What is your new blog about? Are you being re-inspired as well?
