Wonder if our friend might get engaged?

March 23, 2007 by Tricia

Last night, Chris brought one of our friends from work home with him for a visit. It wasn’t a surprise visit – we’d planned earlier in the week on Oliver coming over for dinner. It was nice to see our friend since I hadn’t seen him for a few months. Chris sees him pretty much daily at work, but since I haven’t been to work in a while I don’t think I’ve seen Oliver since before Christmas.

Our friend spent the evening telling us about his girlfriend, and how this is the first week when they’ve each had other obligations and can’t spend much time together. This is the first long term girlfriend that our friend has had in the time that we’ve known him so I can understand his excitement and where he’s coming from.

They’ve only been seeing each other for about four months but she’s already given him a promise ring of sorts. It’s a very nice silver ring with a center that spins. Now he wants to get a nice ring for her too.

Chris and I are both former jewelers. So we talked to him about what kind of ring he wants to get, and whether he wants to get something custom made or perhaps just find a nice already made ring for her. We still have jewelry connections so I think Chris might take him to some of the jewelry trades people we know this weekend or sometime next week and see what they can find.

Now, while our friend says he only wants to get his girlfriend a nice ring since she got him a ring I’m curious as to what type of ring he might get. I mean he called his ring a promise ring … perhaps it won’t be too long before they are looking for engagement rings? I’m just guessing, but it seems like it’s a serious relationship so I wouldn’t be surprised if they do end up getting engaged.

Having been a jeweler myself I guess it’s kind of ironic that I really don’t wear much jewelry. Isn’t it? I mean, I don’t even have an engagement ring! LOL That’s always been fine with me, but perhaps one day when our finances are better, maybe for a big anniversary I’ll talk Chris into getting me a nice diamond ring. Perhaps a nice white gold sapphire diamond ring? With a lovely brilliant cut diamond with D color? Oh yeah, that’d be nice. You see, my birthday is in September and my birthstone is a sapphire so why not combine the two?

The only problem with that is that my wedding band has emeralds in it. Hmmm perhaps I need to get either just a diamond ring or one that has a combination of diamonds and emeralds?

Even though I don’t wear much jewelry I guess the jeweler, and of course woman, in me still likes to look at fine jewelry.

If our friend does decide to get an engagement ring for his girlfriend someday, if we can’t help him ourselves I wouldn’t hesitate to send him to Abazias.com. Abazias Diamonds is a jewelery company that specializes in the sale of loose diamonds. I’ve looked over their selection and I must say that they have some fine diamonds to choose from. They also have a wonderful selection of engagement rings and other jewelery mounts that these fine diamonds could be set into. The prices are reasonable and the quality is superb. Visit the site yourself to see what I mean.

In the meantime we’ll just stick with helping our friend find a “promise” ring for his girlfriend.

Two weeks ago my brother came to Toronto for a convention. For once, he was going to be in town for more than a day or two. He was actually here for five full days! His wife decided to come along for the trip too. She works for my brothers company, but I guess being the bosses wife must have some benefits. She was relaxing while my brother worked the convention.

On the Saturday night almost all of my siblings and a good portion of their kids got together for a nice dinner in a downtown Toronto restaurant. There were eleven us at the table.

The photo above is of me and my family holding our drinks high and giving a cheer. I didn’t take the photo, one of my nephews did. I’m sitting near the end of the left side of the table. You see way at the end of the table? Two sets of hands holding wine glasses up? The first hand is mine, and the second is my sister-in-laws.

I know, you don’t see much of me on this site, but I do give you little bits and pieces here and there don’t I?

Did you notice the glass of Guinness in my nieces boyfriends hand? Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

This last photo is one of my brother, from Vancouver, in the forefront, and my husband behind him.

Say Cheese!

Slush, Margeritas and the Ocean – a salty bunch

March 3, 2007 by Tricia

I should have looked at this weeks Photo Hunter theme earlier. The theme this week is Salty and I’m having trouble figuring out what I could post for it.

We just had a snow and ice storm so I suppose that I could take a photo of the slushy streets as I’m sure the melting snow contains some salt. Yes, when we have ice storms I think they still use some salt in the mix when the city clears the streets.

My brother came to Toronto from Vancouver with his wife. He’s here for a business conference, but his wife just tagged along so that she could shop and visit with us, my sister and one of my other brothers.

Chris and I will be getting together with them this afternoon. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing – perhaps some shopping, maybe just walking around downtown and seeing some of the sights. Either way I plan on bringing my camera along. Perhaps I’ll find some interesting things to take pictures of. Toronto is an interesting city … and now that I know that next weeks Photo Hunter theme is architecture I know which Toronto building I’d love to get a shot of. You’ll love it!

Later this evening we’re going to meet up with my sister and my other brother and perhaps some of my nephews and nieces for dinner in a downtown restaurant. Maybe I’ll order a margarita and take a photo of it’s “Salty” rim? That would work!

I’ve been feeling so rotten lately that I haven’t been out much. It will be nice to get out and visit with my relatives as well as just be out of this house. Of course I think I’m going to be out for 10+ hours, so I hope I’m up for it. It’ll be a drag if I’m feeling horrible by the time our dinner out rolls around.

I’ll leave you with this photo that my friend Jordan sent me. It is Salty since it’s a photo of the ocean:

The woman of your dreams

December 28, 2006 by Tricia

Do you know anyone that met their spouse online? Sure, in this day and age lots of people met over the internet and carry out long distance relationships that eventually lead to marriage don’t they. I remember when there was a time when people were very secretive about how they met, but even that happens less often these days.

Having worked in the Toronto Jewelry trade I knew many Russian men, in fact I’d say that 50% of the jewelers that worked in the trade were from Russian or Northern European Countries. Many of them went back to their homeland to marry their russian brides. Some of the marriages were arranged, others had been secured through services similar to the one that Loversplanet.com provide.

The men that I knew that had ended up marrying Russian Brides were, for the most part, quite happy with their experience. I met many of the women as well and they seemed to be happy with their new husbands and their new life in Canada.

Perhaps you are interested in marriage but you aren’t finding the right type of woman? Have you ever thought of learning more about Russian brides? Loversplanet specializes as a dating agency for Russian Women, and they introduce these Russian women to men from all over the world who are seeking beautiful, family and marriage minded Russian women. It’s said that even as young girls Russian women grow up thinking of family and marriage first. That’s not to say that they don’t want careers of their own, but they place family and marriage high in their life priorities. I can attest to this, as I have met and worked with a number of Russian women.

If you are interested in learning more about Moscow brides or perhaps lovely St. Petersburg brides check out Loversplanet and find out how they can help you, perhaps meet the woman of your dreams.

It was supposed to be Christmas

December 18, 2006 by Tricia

Yesterday, Sunday, was supposed to have been Christmas for me and two of my siblings, and our spouses. It didn’t happen.

I’d been feeling nauseated all week, and then on Friday evening Chris started complaining that he felt nauseated too. When we woke up on Saturday and realized that neither of us felt very good we decided that we’d better call my sister and my brother and let them know that this was a sick house.

Each year we take turns and go to one or the others home for a Christmas get together. It’s not always on Christmas day, in fact it rarely is. My brothers wife’s parents are getting older and since our own parents are gone they usually see her parents every year. My sister is divorced but she usually spends Christmas with her kids who are off to school and no longer live with her full time, and Chris and I usually end up going to his parent for Christmas if we aren’t working. We’re the only ones that do shift work that sometimes ends up making it impossible to see our relatives on special holidays.

Anyway, this year it was my turn to hold our Christmas gathering, but it just didn’t work out. Now we’re going to get together early in the New Year, probably here since it was my turn.

I think it actually worked out for the best anyway. My sister works in the jewelry trade and she’s been working long long hours 7 days a week through the Christmas rush. It would have stressed her to have to stop to come over for a while- even if it would have been good for her. Then there’s my sister in law, she works in retail sales and she’s been working long hours lately too. She had Sunday off, but after she came home from work on Saturday and learned that she’d have a free day on Sunday – maybe that was good for her. She could rest for the busy week ahead.

Ironically enough both Chris and I felt a lot better on Sunday so we probably could have had our get together after all.

So what are your plans for Christmas? Do you travel some distance to get together with family, or do you stay home and either have everyone over to your home, or just have a quite family day?
