Ohhhhhh what a weekend!

August 13, 2007 by Tricia

I’m supposed to be in Niagara Falls right now.

Chris’ brother came to visit from Chicago and our house has been full of people since Saturday. Chris’ brother, T, brought his daughter and son, as well as a friend of his daughters so that was four extra people, then Chris’ younger sister came to visit with her husband and their young daughter. Include Chris and I in that total and that makes nine people milling around our tiny home!

On Saturday evening we went to The Taste of the Danforth. Never try going to the most crowded street festival you’ve ever been to with nine people! OMG we spent more time losing the teenagers and looking for them than doing anything else. I was so terribly disappointed since this was my first time going to the taste in three years and it was a disaster.

After we got back from the Taste of the Danforth more people came to our house! A few old friends of Chris and his brother showed up and we sat in the garden and talked, and drank until the wee hours.

On Sunday we were supposed to go to Ontario Place, The beach, a beach club, dinner and then the CN tower. Well … it rained for a good portion of the afternoon so we made it to the Beach Club and sat on the patio under under umbrella’s by the lake. It was actually pleasant even though it was drizzling for at least two hours while we were there. We then ended up going to a nice restaurant in the Beaches called Quigley’s. I had a few of the baby back ribs I ordered (very large portion sizes) and yum, all of the home made very delicious fries that came with my meal. I doggy bagged the remainder of my meal, and so did a few of the others we were with so we have lots of left overs to graze on this evening.

Our plans changed, again, as usual … and we were supposed to do the CN Tower today and Niagara Falls, but I just wasn’t up to it. I’ve been getting sicker and sicker over the last couple of weeks and two days of house guests, staying up late, drinking when I shouldn’t and being more than a little bit over stressed must have made me feel worse because I had a terrible night last night. I don’t know how many times I was up to the bathroom. I felt so ill, nauseated, in pain, fevers, chills … there was no way I was going anywhere today – including the doctors appointment I was supposed to have at ten a.m.!

I’ve spent much of the day lying on the couch groaning in pain. I’ve only just come back to life and it’s already after 7 pm!

I did have fun getting together with our friends and family, but considering how ill I’ve been it was too much for me. Plus I shouldn’t have drank anything! Not that I drank a lot mind you. Two drinks on Saturday and three on Sunday. That’s not too bad, but considering I don’t really drink much anymore that was enough.

I took photos of the crowds at the Taste of the Danforth and some lovely shots while at the beach – including one of my husband when he went swimming. He climbed up on some rocks and mooned everyone! LOL Yeah, I got a snap of that!

I’ll post some of the photos over the next few days.

It’ll be quiet around here soon

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

Haha! I think it’s going to be a little quieter around here for a while! Our noisy neighbors are going on vacation! An orlando vacation. Yeah!

I think they are leaving sometime next week and they’ll be gone for at least a week. No more karaoke parties for a while! No more tuba or electric guitar vibrating through my walls. Yeahhhhh!

Then, as I said the other day, they might also be moving! They’re going to put their house up for sale sometime in September to test the market. Oh I hope that they get an offer or two! Their house is a corner lot which I’ve heard are harder to sell, but then they have almost twice the yard space of everyone else in the neighborhood so that might help them sell.

Oh I can’t wait for them to go on their holiday and then maybe move away.

The neighbors might move!

August 8, 2007 by Tricia

My karaoke neighbors might be moving!!!

Watch now that I said it won’t happen.

They’ve decided that September is a good time to try to sell their house so they are going to “test” the market and put it up for sale in September.

Dare I say that I do hope that they sell and that we get quiet neighbors? I fully realize we could get even worse neighbors but I’m willing to take the chance.

Not only do these people karaoke almost daily and or play guitar and tuba! They also cook quite a bit of their food in their enclosed back porch. You know, the porch that’s attached to ours? They fry their smelly foods back there.

Not only does this smell up our house if we have our back door open, but it also makes me fear that a house fire will start. Our houses are made of brick but if their porch caught on fire so would ours.

Oh I hope we get better neighbors.

The mooch is now a creep

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

Earlier today as I was busy writing a post I had a knock on my door. I really don’t like answering the door when I’m not expecting someone because more often than not it’s someone selling something.

So I waited. When I heard the person leave I peeked outside and saw the person going down my driveway to the backyard.

Huh? Then I remembered that our Power company was going to change the electricity meter to a Smart Meter – I think this is one that can tell how you use electricity in your house (washer, dryer, computers). They had told us to put a sticker on our present meter if we wanted to be notified when they were going to make the change over. I do want to be notified as I might be working on my computer at the time and the power will be out for a short time.

Anyway, it wasn’t the power company. It was a guy that Chris and I both work with at the Hospital. I haven’t seen him in a long while because I’ve been off work, and well I haven’t wanted to see him either because he’s kind of creepy.

He’s the kind of guy that once you are nice to him he’ll come over every day, hang out for hours expecting to be fed, drinking your pop, beer or other alcohol etc all the while.

I opened the door and talked to him while he was on the porch steps. I didn’t even let him inside the enclosed porch let alone inside the house! Sorry, but this guy is a major mooch and he hasn’t been around for a while and I like it that way.

While I was talking to him he told me he’d visited at noon or so and knocked on the door. Here it was approximately 3 pm and all I could think of was “what, are you hanging around the house all day?” It just gave me the creeps.

When he finally left I had the shivers. The thought of this guy wandering around our house and maybe even sitting in our garden when I wasn’t aware that he was around just creeped me out.

There’s another guy that Chris used to work with that comes around too. He’s a nice guy in general, but in the three or four years that he’s been coming over on work time he’s never once brought anything over for us to replace what he uses while he’s here. Namely beer. He can sit and drink three beers in a half hour, then he goes back to work, checks out on his time card, and drives home.

I don’t like being mooched off of and I don’t like someone drinking like that (on work time or otherwise) and then driving home.

Our problem is that in general we are just plain too nice to people and we end up getting these hangers on who never do a thing for us except take take take all that we’ll give.

No more of that! I’m through with mooches … especially ones who’ve turned into major creeps.

You know anyone like that?

Were you a bridezilla?

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

Have you been watching any of the wedding related shows on TV lately? You know ones like Bridezilla? LOL I’ve only glanced at the shows as I’ve been searching for better forms of entertainment of perhaps even a show I could learn something from but the segments I have seen are kind of funny.

I can’t remember the exact details and probably wouldn’t get it right anyway since I didn’t see the whole show, but one particular segment I saw revolved around a bridal speech and the very odd things that the father of the bride and the Masters of Ceremonies, or maybe it was the best man, wanted to say during the reception dinner speeches about the new bride and groom. It had something to do with some very embarrassing things the couple did when they first got together. Naturally when the bride heard about this she went ballistic!

I don’t believe I was a bridezilla. I was a very tired bride. When Chris and I finally decided to get married we went and talked to our priest and he only had two decent dates left that year! My parents were older, and are now passed on, so I didn’t want to wait until the next year to get married just in case something happened to one of them. So we booked our wedding date for October 22nd in July of that same year. Like around this time in July.

That doesn’t leave much time to plan a wedding and reception for approximately 200 people! I pretty much did all the planning on my own and at the same time was working in a new nursing job that I’d started that June. Chris helped where he could of course, but it’s the women that generally plan all the little details that pull things together.

My closest bridezilla moment probably happened shortly after the wedding. We’d gone to have our photos taken in a lovely park and by the time we got to the reception hall all of our guests were already inside and snacking on the hor d oeuvres. They were supposed to have been in an upstairs hall waiting for our arrival and then we’d do the reception line and so on.

I was absolutely starving so I was looking forward to a few moments of privacy and the ability to eat a few of the delicious snacks without all eyes on me. So needless to say I was extremely disappointed to see everyone already in the hall when we arrived.

It turned out that the people who were supposed to taking care of the upstairs hall couldn’t make it because of an illness or death in the family. So that’s why my guests were in the wrong place.

Oh well, something always goes wrong at a wedding doesn’t it. What happened at yours?
