I’d love to live in the mountains

June 12, 2007 by Tricia

If I were considering moving anywhere I think I’d want to move somewhere where I’d have a view of mountains and gorgeous scenery every day no matter what the season. Can you imagine the photographs I’d be posting if I lived in a place of such majestic beauty!

There are a few places on my short list of mountainous areas that I’d probably enjoy living in and one of those is the community of Asheville, which is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Now I’ve never been there, but from what I’ve been reading on the Asheville Real Estate website I do think that I’d like the area. The town of Asheville itself is a growing community with good schools, shopping, arts and entertainment available to all residents of the area.

The community is actually growing quite fast, so now would be a good time to take a look at Asheville homes as I believe they are a worthy investment and sure to continue to be a good investment.

There are even some beautiful luxury homes in the Asheville area. Just take a look at this map called luxury homes Asheville that has markers placed where all the luxury homes that are for sale are located. Wow, there’s some nice homes there with beautiful views!

If anyone lives in this area of Carolina I’d love to hear from you. Honestly, I’d love to live near a beautiful mountain range such as this some day.

Work from home? Live abroad

May 18, 2007 by Tricia

You know, due to my illness, I’ve been stuck at home for almost a year and a half now. Since I stopped getting sick pay from my workplace almost a year ago I’ve had to find a way to bring in some money so that we could continue to own our lovely home and pay all of our bills.

It’s been hard, but for those of you who have been reading this blog you know that I’ve managed to do quite well as far as creating an income that we can live off of through the internet. I’m at the point now that I think I’m actually making more than I did when I worked as an ER nurse.

I know that several of the people who read my blog have also found ways to make income from the internet. Either through creating their own businesses or doing work here and there for a multitude of internet related companies.

Have you ever thought of Living Abroad? I mean, if you are making a great income from work that you do through home, or your home based business there’s no reason that you can’t do it from any place in the world. Is there? Heck, if you choose to move to the right country you could even be making a tax free income and thus have even more money to live off of. This is beginning to sound more and more appealing isn’t it?

Where would you go if you decided to pack it all up and work from home?

I know that I’d probably enjoy living and working in an exotic location. Someplace that was fairly warm year round, and in my case it would also have to have a decent health care system since I have Crohn’s disease. Hmmm Maybe a country such as Australia or Belize would work for me.

Naturally if I were really going to pack up and move to an exotic local I’d likely end up having to buy a property abroad as well. At this point, we’d have to either sell the home we are living in now, or rent it out in order to do this, but it’s a thought isn’t it?

I’ve never been to visit Australia or Belize, but the thought of being able to work from home in one of those locations is very appealing. If we could manage it, I’d try to get a home close to the ocean and beach. Hey, since I work with my computer alone, I could perhaps even sit on the beach each day as I got my work done. Oh that’d be so nice.

I’d miss our Canadian Spring and Autumn because I love watching how the seasons change here, but I don’t think I’d miss our cold, cold winters all that much.

If you work from home, have an e-business, or have a dream of being able to work from home where would you want to live and why?

If the idea of living abroad and working from home is appealing you should visit the Living and Working Abroad Resource website that got me thinking of living in an exotic local. You’ll find articles discussing immigration laws, health care, advantages of living or retiring in other Countries and a whole lot more.

Do visit the site. It’s good to dream, and you never know, by reading the Living and Working Abroad Resource website you may find a way to make your dreams a reality.

We should rent a place for Postiecon

May 9, 2007 by Tricia

I never thought about it before, but I just found out that you can rent Disney vacation homes. By this I mean vacation homes that are right beside Disney World in Orlando Florida. If I’d known that I might have looked into it when I was thinking about going to P0stiecon at the end of the month.

We could have gathered a small group of bloggers, maybe 6 or 8 and rented out a nice sized vacation home. Hmmm maybe we can do something like that in Vegas now that P0stiecon has moved? Rent a big vacation home or maybe a very large hotel suite and share it?

I’m still not even sure if I’m going to Vegas this fall, it all depends on this darn Crohn’s disease, but if I’m feeling ok by early summer I might start to make some plans.

If any other posties are interested in perhaps sharing a double room with Chris and I – by double room I mean adjoining rooms or a double suite … whatever you call it, let me know.

We have a scary basement

December 4, 2006 by Tricia

OMG I just came upstairs from our basement. I was looking for something down there and you know what? Our basement’s scary. We’ve lived in this house for five and a half years and uhm we still have a lot of unpacked boxes in the basement, a huge sectional couch from the apartment that we hope to use in the basement when we finish it, some furniture and items from my parents house that I inherited. Geez … we have so much stuff down there you can barely move. Forget about finding anything.

I think that whenever we do start to work on finishing the basement we’re going to have to clear everything out and use a storage company, probably this Self Storage Service. Moving.bz makes it really easy to find storage facilities in your local area. You can even rent storage units from some of the companies. It’s so easy in fact that all you have to do is enter you Zip code in the section that’s labeled “Find Self Storage”. Once you’ve listed your area code click the button and a new page will open that lists several storage companies in your immediate area. Check off the ones that interest you and then click the button in the bottom right that says “Quotes” and you’ll be taken to another page where you can enter your contact information and leave a comment with specific details of your storage needs. Just submit your request for free quotes and the companies will respond to you directly. It’s so easy.

Yes I think when the time comes we will put all that stuff in the basement in storage. It’s like a dungeon down there. I wish I’d taken a photo but it’s so dark even during the day time that you probably wouldn’t be able to make out much. Clutter is clutter – just imagine a cluttered (but not dirty) basement and that will be ours.

How much is your home worth?

December 2, 2006 by Tricia

I don’t know about you, but once we moved into our house I started to get curious about how much it was worth compared to others in the neighborhood. This didn’t start right away. No, we were far too busy tearing out walls and refinishing floors and re-painting everything in the first six months or so to worry about things like that. However, as our house started to shape and become something that we felt we’d made even nicer than it had been when we’d purchased it, I started to wonder how our home compared to the rest of the homes in the neighborhood.

The only problem was you can’t just walk up to a neighbor that is selling their home, or a new one who just moved in and ask them what the price of their home is. Well, you can, but I’m not the type of person to do that.

I found a few ways to figure out the prices of homes in the area – and soon discovered that similar homes were selling for about $100,000 more than we’d purchased our home for. Man, we got a deal! Now our house, If I go by the rate of similar home sales in the area, is worth more than 150,000 more than we paid.

I just found site that will help people living in the United States sate their curiosity. You can go to the site and type in your address and get a property appraisal which will tell you the estimated value of your home as well as information as to how much people in your neighborhood have been selling their homes for. I can see a site like this coming in handy for someone who is thinking of selling their home and trying to figure out how much they would get if they sold it.
