Time to add some divine metal wall art to my plain walls

September 7, 2007 by Tricia

wallartlog.jpg

Summers almost over and if you live in a climate that cools down in the autumn you’ll soon be spending more time indoors. I don’t know about you, but during Fall and Winter I tend to look around my house and ideas start brewing as to how I can redecorate to make it look even nicer. I know I’m not the only one who does this – I know people who rearrange their furniture and put out new wall decor and accessories two or three times a year!

We’re renovating our living room and dining room and I’m getting antsy to finish the rooms with accessories that I’ve had stored in boxes in the basement. I’m hoping that sometime in the next two months I’ll finally be able to make these rooms my own. We have a lot of items to accessorize the living room and dining room but I’ve never really decorated the walls in this house or my former apartment. The main reason why we never put up wall art was that our apartment had concrete walls and it was just too hard to hang anything and well, in this house we’re in the midst of renovations so we just haven’t been able to decorate yet.

viborgmetalwallart.gif Now I’m busy looking for wall art. I happened to visit an online store called Wall Decor and Home Accents. This store has a lovely selection of divine metal wall art in a variety of shapes and sizes that would make any wall look spectacular.

I really like the piece that’s called Viborg Metal Wall Art. It’s the photo that I’ve included above – isn’t that interesting? Some might think that it has an abstract modern look and I’d agree, but the piece also reminds me of nature with it’s shades of brown. It reminds me of a tree – perhaps tree bark? What comes to mind when you look at that piece? Certainly it could be a conversation piece if placed on a wall in a room where people gather.

vantania.gif If you like wall art you really should visit the Wall Decor and Home Accents website and have a look at their selection. The metal wall art really is divine. I don’t think there’s a piece there that I don’t like.

I must be in a nature mood tonight as the second piece of metal wall art that I’ve added to this post is called Vantania and it’s most definitely tree like. It appears to be composed of panels, but I could be mistaken.

The online store also carries architectural pieces, wall clocks, wall mirrors, candle wall scones and wrought iron decor. Many of the pieces are on sale right now, so if you are interested in finding some pieces to brighten up a plain wall of your home take a look. If you buy now you’ll save some money! Oh and Christmas isn’t too far off, some of these items would make fantastic Christmas or even house warming gifts.

Thousands of lighting products at Farreys to choose from!

September 7, 2007 by Tricia

On Monday evening I got together with my brothers and sister, nephews and nieces for our last big dinner out together for this family reunion. We had decided to meet at the Pickle Barrel restaurant downtown. There’s an escalator near the main entrance that takes you downstairs to the restaurant and they have beautiful modern chandeliers hanging over the escalator. You can almost touch them as you travel down the escalator.

Seeing these beautiful lights got my mind going again as to how to decorate our living room / dinning room when we finally finish our renovations. We definitely need new lighting!

With this in mind I visited Farreys.com. They have a huge variety of lighting fixtures, lamps, outdoor lighting and so on. You name it and I think they’ve got it. They should since they apparently have hundreds of thousands of styles of lights!

The main page of the site has a long list of many of the different lighting manufactures who’s lighting products they sell. So if you want to look for a particular lighting manufactures lighting fixtures that’s the place to start. They carry lighting made by Ambience, fine art lamps, Quoizel, Sea Gull Lighting, George Kovacs, Hinkley Lighting, Minka Lavery, Kichler Lighting, Fontana Arte, Maxim Lighting, Flos, Murray Feiss and many more.

Naturally since I’m looking for a chandelier for our dining room I started browsing the chandelier category. You know, they aren’t lying when they say they have hundreds of thousands of lighting products. Just the chandelier section alone has pages and pages of different styles of chandeliers. There are so many styles to look at that I think I’m going to hold off and visit the site on the weekend when I have a bit more time to really go over the choices. Believe me – if I can’t find something I like at Farreys I’m way too picky! lol

Starry Night Lights has a great selection of outdoor lighting

September 6, 2007 by Tricia

If you’ve been reading this blog for any time you’ve read how I’ve used various types of landscape lighting to enhance the look of my home, highlight plants and gently light my garden. I love siting in my garden at night. The outdoor lights aren’t very bright, but they light the garden just enough that I can see some of the plants and structure of the garden. It’s very peaceful and pretty.

If you’ve been thinking of installing outdoor lighting in your yard visit Starry Night Lights. They have a large selection of night sky friendly lighting from which you can choose.

You’ll find everything from metallic and ceramic wall scones, to wall lanterns, landscape lights, architectural lighting, light shades and even sign lights. These lights are designed to not only enhance the look of your home and property, but to reduce the effects of light pollution in the community.

You see that’s what I like about siting in my garden. The lights I use are bright enough to enhance the look of my yard, but not so bright that I can’t look up and see the night sky and if I’m lucky some stars as well.

That’s what light pollution is – when outdoor lighting used by homes, businesses and to light the city are so bright that they blot out the sky making it impossible to see the sky properly. You’ll actually find some great articles on the StarryNightLights.com website about light pollution and the billions of dollars that are wasted annually in the US just lighting up our cities and as a result the sky too.

Another storm?

September 5, 2007 by Tricia

It always seems that whenever I’m on a roll posting away on my computer late at night we have a thunder storm. The house a few minutes ago since the storm and thunder was so close.

Actually we need rain. We’ve barely had any rain here in Toronto over the last month. Perhaps I should stay up late posting like crazy more often so we’ll get some rain.

I’m just hoping, as I usually do, that the power doesn’t go out. I hate when the power goes out during a storm. Thunder storms freak me out. I wonder if they sell decent looking battery powered home lighting that won’t go out during a storm? Now that would be a great invention wouldn’t it? A nice lamp that has back up batteries in it like some alarm clocks do so that when the power goes out the clock, or in this case light, will keep on working.

Yes I’m rambling. Time to go to bed I think. At least if I’m bed it won’t matter if the power goes out.

The Face of the Sun

Wordless Wednesday

We have some garden decorations in our garden and one of the latest items to adorn one of the surrounding walls is a large metal sun. It looks really cool with the vines growing around it.

Yesterday while I was out take just a few pictures I took this close up photo of the face of the sun. I think it looks kind of cool.
