A day at the in-laws

August 4, 2010 by Tricia

Just got back from visiting the in-laws and extended family in Brantford. I’m soooo tired!

My husband came back last night from his sisters cottage … a trailer up north and he was as red as a lobster! He’d been partying with his brother and sister for four days. The trailer is in a little town on a lake. Very nice place. Chris says that her sister and her husband almost have their rv loans paid off too. That was fast – they only bought the trailer four or five years ago!

I’m glad he’s home, but we have to scramble to do a bunch of stuff before we get hit with weekend visitors! Chris brother and nephew will be coming to Toronto on Friday. Then we’re going to a baseball game Friday evening and to a barbecue at some friends. I don’t know what’s in store for the rest of the weekend.

Actually we have a visitor right now. Our nephew came back with us from Brantford. He has some Extra work in a series that being filmed downtown tomorrow so he’s staying with us overnight.

Oh and our car broke down! Some plug or module apparently fell out of our transmission on Saturday. My husband had borrowed his parents car to drive up North and his parents had our car. Only problem was they didn’t tell us that our car was sitting in a garage until today! So now that we’ve said yes to the repair a special part has to be ordered and I guess our car won’t be fixed until Friday or Saturday. Nice eh … I wish my mother in law had called me seeing as I was at home. Grrrr!

Well I’d better get to bed soon … tomorrow and probably the next few days are going to be busy!

BTW I heard back from my family doctors office on my head MRI … I’m going to need follow up with my neurologist. My MRI showed Non-Specific changes – whatever that means. See I knew something was wrong with my head.

The best kind of news

July 15, 2010 by Tricia

One of my friends has been trying to get pregnant for years. It’s been so long that she and her husband were just about to start In vitro treatments, but wouldn’t you know it – she just discovered that she’s pregnant.

I’m so happy for her. All she’s ever wanted was to have a baby and now her dream is about to come true.

She called me the other day and was practically screaming into the phone. She had just had a call from her doctor and I was one of the first people that she let in on her good news.

Sometime this weekend we’re going to go out shopping for some of the things she’ll need over the next few months. She already wants to start looking at cribs, but I think for starters we should try to find her some good prenatal vitamins and work on things for her brand new baby room over the next few months.

Of course if we do go out shopping this weekend I think I’ll probably end up getting a cute stuffed toy or a tiny baby outfit as a gift for the new baby. I’m sure she’d love that.

I just hope that everything continues to go well for her over the next several months.

Long time no see Nephew

July 1, 2010 by Tricia

Our nephew stayed overnight on Monday. He’s my husbands sisters son.

It was the first time I’d seen him in maybe 8 years!

The odd thing is … I’ve been in the same house as him several times over the past 8 years. He is living at my husbands parents house and has been for at least the last five years … but he’s very antisocial.

He’d just stay in the basement with his friends or playing video games rather than come upstairs to join the family for dinner. He wouldn’t even come upstairs to say hi or eat with us at Christmas time. Isn’t that unbelievable?

I guess it’s the way he’s been raised. Ever since he was a little kid he’s always got everything he wanted. He also spent a lot of time with his grandparents and they let him get away with murder. I mean, when he was a little boy he’d ask for ice cream and they’d get it for him right away, then he’d take one bite and say he didn’t want it – he’d want something else. Oh and his grandparents would get it for him rather than make him eat what he’d asked for first or instead of just not giving him something else.

Isn’t that nuts?

So when I heard he was going to come and stay over at our house on Monday night I wasn’t thrilled. I mean, this kid couldn’t even come upstairs to say hello to relatives for a few minutes, even though he doesn’t have a chance to see them all that often?

Anyway I must say I was surprised by his visit. In a good way. He showed up wearing his hip hop clothing on Monday evening. He’s been working as an extra on a television show being filmed here in Toronto and he had to be back on the set early the next morning which is why he needed to stay over at our house (seeing as he lives an hour and a half outside of Toronto).

He was polite and friendly during his stay with us. We made him something to eat and he sat and watched TV with us for a while before heading off to bed at about 11 pm that evening.

It was the most time I’d spent with him in years.

Now if he needs to stay over for a night every once in a while I won’t be so apprehensive about his visit. Perhaps he’s starting to mature and change. He is 21 years old now after all.

Ready to study business

July 1, 2010 by Tricia

We heard from our niece in Chicago earlier today. She was calling to say “Happy Canada Day”.

It was nice to hear from her. We had a nice long talk – something we don’t get to do very often.

I don’t know if I mentioned it on this blog, but sometime in the winter my niece had called me asking me about Gmat prep courses. Now I must admit that at the time I didn’t really even know what a Gmat was, but I did some research on the internet and suggested a few places where she could enroll for a gmat prep course online.

She took the course at Knewton. Actually she just finished her course and she wanted to let us know that she did really well and that she was really happy with the company. She took advantage of the live teaching hours and said she was quite happy with the abundance of practice tests that she was able to do. Now she feels ready to continue her business studies.

I think we might get to see our niece in a couple of weeks. She and her dad and her two brothers might be coming to the Toronto area for a visit. It’ll be nice to see them.

Hit the road virus! I’ve got things to do!

April 16, 2010 by Tricia

My brother has been in town all week on business. He normally stays with my husband and I when he’s in town, but since he had so many business meetings scheduled this week he decided to stay in a hotel downtown so he’d be closer to where most of his meetings are taking place.

Chris and I got together with him on Monday evening and I’m glad we did … now that both of us are so sick with whatever this virus is, we really haven’t been able to get out to do anything. Man I hate being sick!

Hopefully we’ll be felling better soon.

Actually, thanks to that volcano in Iceland my brother is going to be in Toronto a little longer than expected. He was supposed to go to Europe – today I think, but that’s been delayed. So maybe if my husband and I get over this darn bug we can see him once or twice. I think it’s time to show this virus the exit signs LOL.

How about you guys? Anyone fighting an early spring bug? One that makes you dizzy, nauseated, sniffley, sore throat and just makes you feel off? Hope not!
