Too cold for outdoor activity

February 22, 2008 by Tricia

Well so much for my attempt at weight loss. I made quite a bit of progress in the first month that we had our puppy but since then I’ve either been feeling so sick or it’s been so cold outside (or both) that I haven’t been as active. So my progress has slowed.

What a vicious cycle. I’m sick and in pain so I’m not all that active which caused me to gain a bit of weight (my medications have as well (steroids)) and then when I want to get more active I can’t – again because of the pain. Arghhh!

I hope the weather starts to get better soon. It’s too easy to make the excuse that I’m not going to walk the dog because it’s -20 or even -30 Celsius (-22 F) outside (that’s darn cold!). Of course I’m not just making the excuse because I don’t want to go. Even the puppy doesn’t want to walk very far when it’s that cold out either!

Only a month or so ’till Spring and nicer weather. I can’t wait.

The pain is back

February 19, 2008 by Tricia

It seems I spoke too soon. My pain is back with a vengeance.

It’s just after 4 a.m. and I’m lying on the couch in severe pain. Crohn’s disease sucks. There I said it. It sucks. I hate it. It seems like my whole life revolves around this stupid disease. I can’t plan for next week or next month or even for tomorrow for that matter because I never know if I’m going to be feeling well enough to do anything.

Yesterday was the first day in more than a week that I felt ok. Ok doesn’t mean I feel well. It means I feel well enough to get some things done, go for a walk, do some shopping, get some house work done etc.

I’m certain that I had a bowel obstruction over the weekend. It resolved over night and I awoke on Monday feeling a lot better. As a result I probably ended up doing too much yesterday.

Chris was home since Monday is his normal day off, but it also happened to be a holiday here in Ontario – Family day. It didn’t feel like a holiday weekend though … it just felt normal since as I said, Chris usually has Mondays off work.

Since Chris was home he did the dishes and started my day by grooming the puppy. She’s started shedding again in the past week or so and she’s shedding a lot! I sat on the kitchen floor brushing the puppy’s coat with the zoom brush and collected about three cups of hair! The floor was covered with hair and sweeping just wasn’t doing the job so I ended up vacuuming the whole house, the dogs two doggy beds and yes folks I even took the vacuum to the dog. Luckily she didn’t mind – she likes the vacuum.

The rest of my day was spent spending some time with Chris and our puppy, working on the computer on some of my sites and making dinner (baked chicken breast, steamed veggies and a fresh salad – most of that not being so hot for someone with Crohns – oh well!). I haven’t gotten much done on my active sites or the new sites for quite a while because I’ve been feeling so awful. The email is also piling up. I’ve got quite a few sites to add to the blogrolls that I run and several saved emails waiting for replies. I just can’t keep up with it all these days it seems.

By 10 pm my abdominal pain was coming back and my left knee was aching too. It seems the Crohn’s is going to my joints – or else it’s the weather, I haven’t figured that one out yet.

The pain has gradually gotten worse as the night progresses. My pain meds are doing absolutely nothing to touch the pain. If it keeps getting worse I’ll probably end up going to Emerg this time.

This totally sucks. I think I need new intestines … is there a market for that???

A little better today

February 18, 2008 by Tricia

I’m feeling a little better today! It’s about darn time too. I’ve felt awful for at least a solid week, and before that I only had a few days where I felt ok after feeling totally yucky in early Feb. So far 2008 hasn’t been much better than 2007 health wise.

Yesterday, along with my internet problems and lack of a working mouse for the laptop, I felt absolutely terrible. I think I lay on the couch pretty much all day. My stomach was just aching so bad. I’m pretty sure I had yet another bowel obstruction. I didn’t see a doctor or go to emerg., so I don’t have medical proof of that, but I’ve had enough of them over the years that you kind of get to know what’s up.

It seems to have cleared today. Thank God for anti-inflammatories!

I guess instead of hoping that I have better health in 2008 I’ll just hope each day is better than the last.

Feverish

February 6, 2008 by Tricia

I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything here for a few days!

Well I have a good excuse. I’ve been sick again. What else is new eh? I’ve had a constant fever from sometime Saturday evening up until sometime earlier today.

It’s not unusual for me to have several fevers in a day or even several fevers each day for days on end. It just goes with my Crohn’s disease. In fact it’s so common that’s why I came up with the name Feverish Thoughts for this sites domain.

It’s been a while though since I’ve pretty much had a constant fever for days on end!

I don’t know how you feel when you have a fever … I’ll bet you probably have other symptoms going on when you get one … but for me, a fever just zaps all my energy. I’m shivering with the chills or too hot as my fever comes down and I’m just too tired to think or do much of anything.

Surprisingly my crohn’s pain is usually a little better or rather less painful when I have a fever and it gets worse again when the fever finally goes away. So right now my fever seems to be gone but I’ve got bad abdominal pain. Go figure. I can’t win for losing!

Obviously I haven’t been up to too much in the last few days what with my fevers zapping all my energy. Other than our current ice, snow and thunder storm that’s going on the only other interesting thing that’s happened in the last few days is that an old friend came over to see me on Monday.

My friend was in the area and she decided to pop in for a quick visit. I hadn’t seen her for maybe two years! She moved from the area when she got married two years ago, changed jobs and we just kind of lost touch with each other.

She’s going to have a few more changes in her life soon too. When I gave her a hug I couldn’t help but feel a baby bump! After she took her coat off I could see that she definitely is expecting. She’s only about four and a half months along but she’s so excited she’s already wearing maternity jeans! She’s so cute.

My long lost friend stayed for two hours or so and we had a chance to catch up on what’s been happening in our lives.

I don’t really like having people over when I’m not feeling well, but it’s different when it’s a really good friend. She didn’t mind that I lay on the couch for part of our visit.

Anything interesting happening in your life? Hopefully you guys are healthier than I am lately!

Frustrating doctors appointment

January 27, 2008 by Tricia

The week before last I went to see my pain doctor. It was not a good visit. In fact I came home so upset I started crying and my poor puppy who’d never seen me upset like that didn’t know what the heck was going on.

Why was I so upset? A medical student. My pain doctor occasionally has medical students in her office. She lets them talk to her patients while she sees another patient then she comes in and talks to her patient with the medical student present.

drug treatment as she’s always telling me about new medications that will be coming out soon that might help me with the pain from my Crohns.
