The missing flower

Last week, I think it was Wednesday, I happened to look out my front window and I noticed that our very first tulip of the year was blooming in the boulevard garden bed. It was morning and I was still busy doing some things around the house, so I took note of the flower and made a mental note to go outside later in the day to take a closer look and perhaps even photograph the flower.

Unfortunately that was not to be.

At some point in the afternoon I looked out the window again and saw that the flower was missing. Someone had picked it – taking the whole stem and all.

I couldn’t believe it! Someone had taken my first tulip. I didn’t even get to enjoy it. Can you believe that?

A lot of young school children walk by our house each day. There’s an elementary school just a few blocks away. I suspect that it was probably a child that took the flower. If it was I’m not that upset. However I still would have liked to have at least taken a closer look at it and perhaps taken that photo.

The tulips shown above grow in the back garden but they aren’t blooming yet. I took that photo last spring.

Crocus’ Still blooming

Yah yeah I know. Sunday was a couple of days ago. I get it. I was busy! I’ve never missed a Green Thumb Sunday post and I won’t now either. Better late than never.

I can’t believe my crocus’ are still blooming. See when I told you that we’ve had a cool and dismal April I meant it. My crocus’ usually begin to bloom in the last week of March and they are often done by mid April, but here’s my lovely crocus’ still blooming their heads off.

It won’t last much longer now that it’s warmed up, but I’m enjoying having them around a little longer this year.

Waiting for Spring

trees at beach

This is a January picture of Toronto’s famous beach boardwalk. The tree’s bare, leafless and waiting for spring. The boardwalk – sunny on a beautiful winter day with a few brave souls daring to come out and explore the beauty of the lake on this cool day.

If anything, that bright winter day was probably nicer than today – a Spring day, is supposed to be. It will be cold and rainy. We might even get some snow.

Much of Europe is unusually warm, and so is western Canada. Why isn’t it warming up here? I want to see my spring flowers bloom.

Tiger Lilies

I love my Tiger lilies. I grow a number of different types of lilies but I think I like the original tiger lilies that came with my house best.

Even though we’ve hit another cold spell I’d swear that I saw some lily sprouts out in the garden. They grow well through April and May and often bloom depending upon what kind of spring and summer we are having any where from mid June to Mid July. The last few years they’ve bloomed by Mid June if memory serves me correctly.

Did anyone get any flowers for Easter? For some reason Lilies are often included in Easter flower bouquets. They aren’t Easter flowers to me, but I guess they are to some people.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this long weekend. Happy Easter to All.

For the Love of Peace

This is an almost blown Love and Peace rose blossom. This is absolutely gorgeous multicolored rose.

It begins it’s blooming stage as peach and yellow colored buds that bloom into multi-colored roses of yellow, red, orange, and peach that could seem quite gaudy if you stare at them too long. The fully open rose blooms are at least 5 inches in diameter and the love and peace Hybrid Tea rose plant itself bloom prolifically throughout the season.

I’m eager for my rose growing season to begin. I have to wait almost two months before I’ll start to see the first flower buds on my roses. It’s worth the wait.
