So tired of being tired

September 18, 2012 by Tricia

I am exhausted. I feel like I’ve been exhausted all summer. As if I haven’t slept well most of the summer. Yes I know the irony – I’m posting this right after a post about insomnia. No I haven’t been suffering from insomnia, I just haven’t been getting enough sleep.

Ever since I injured my hand in early June and started waking up at night because of the pain in my hand or even not sleeping because of the pain I’ve been tired. Then, once my hand slowly started to get better my stomach started acting up. Remember the Crohn’s .. yeah, it’s acting up again too. It really hasn’t been a fun summer. I’m really hoping that Autumn will be much better!

Now that it’s getting cooler outside I think I’m going to make sure I go for a long walk at least once every day. Twice if possible. That will be just one more thing to make me tired and help me sleep. Sounds like a plan. I just have to make time to do that.

Next on the list is maybe starting to take some vitamins again. I was taking vitamins last year and I felt a lot better, perhaps if I take vitamins again I’ll start feeling better again? There’s actually still some maternity vitamins in the cupboard, I guess I should finish them.

Ok, I’ve been taking about being exhausted – maybe I should just go to bed. Goodnight!

Trying to concentrate

September 18, 2012 by Tricia

I’m having yet another busy week. I guess that’s the way it’s going to be now that I’m back in school. I’m busy trying to return to work, going to school and maintaining all my sites at the same time .. oh and we’re renovating our house too! Yes that’s a lot isn’t it?

I’d be back at work already if my hand injury hadn’t happened – then I’d be even busier!

I’m having trouble concentrating studying when my husband is home. He’s always busy doing odd jobs around the house or picking up one of his guitars and playing music. I usually don’t mind, but now that I’m studying it’s a little distracting.

Oh and speaking of guitars, the other day he saw one called a jazzmaster musicians friend and that’s now his latest obsession. He loves jazz music, in fact when he first started playing guitar he played classical and jazz so he wouldn’t mind one of these guitars. Perhaps if he gets one of these guitars I can make a deal with him to only play it in the basement or upstairs when I’m studying? Yeah … that’ll work.

Ok … back to my studying!

Taking advantage of the great weather

September 13, 2012 by Tricia

It looks like this is going to be a beautiful week in Toronto. It’s supposed to be sunny and warm all week. Lovely.

I took advantage of the great weather yesterday. I had to go to my new college campus to buy one of my college text books for my online course and since my campus is on the waterfront I took the time to take several pictures while I was there. I love Toronto’s waterfront area. It’s beautiful. There’s so much to do and it’s so pretty!
Sugar Beach Toronto's Waterfront
As it turns out George Brown college moved the nursing division from St. James campus to the Waterfront campus. The Waterfront campus happens to be right beside Sugar beach which is this kind of cool looking fake beach with white sand that over looks the lake. It’s right beside the Redpath sugar plant and I’m sure that’s likely why it’s called Sugar Beach. It’s very pretty with it’s pink umbrellas. Of course, while I enjoyed the sunny day and warm weather, beautiful sites and lovely beach it only served to remind me that in a few short months I’ll be putting up the christmas ornaments. Now isn’t that a scary thought!

Once we were done picking up my text book at the college book store and walking around on the water front my husband suggested we check out something that was pretty much across the street from the college campus. The Sherbourne Common. I really hadn’t heard of this area or seen the cool water features or other green items that were there prior to my visit yesterday, but I was blown away once we got there.

The Sherbourne common has three huge water falls that are composed of water streaming down mesh screens. It’s extremely cool to look at. The water is recycled back into the lake I believe if I read the information correctly. Actually the playground equipment and other materials at the common are all recycle and green materials. I’ll write another post and add more photos but for now, here’s one photo to show you one of the water features in the sunset with the CN Tower in the background.

Have you been enjoying beautiful weather this September?

A weekend to myself

September 8, 2012 by Tricia

As of tomorrow I will become a college student again. Hard to believe but it’s true! Ok, I’m only taking two courses and they are from home, but I am back to school.

I’m taking two distance education courses from George Brown College. They are nursing related courses. Since I’ve been off work on medical leave for some time I’m going to brush up on a few things and then in January I will be returning to my old job at the hospital if all goes well. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully nothing else happens that will hamper my progress such as my hand injury that occurred in June! That certainly put a huge delay on things! I’m still recovering from that. I don’t know if my hand will ever be the same.

I had a busy week last week. I was trying to get a lot of things done so that I could concentrate on starting my courses on Monday. As I said in my last post I was doing a lot of work on a number of my websites, upgrading and updating because I know I’m going to have less time in the near future to work on things. I also did a little research into possible inviting guest bloggers to write for some of my sites. We’ll see how that goes. I haven’t decided if I’m going to go in that direction or not. I certainly get a lot of offers as it is anyway!

Then .. I was also trying to prepare to go away this weekend. My nephew – the hockey player that I told you about earlier in the summer, is now living in Brockville and playing for the Brockville Braves. He’s playing his first professional hockey games this weekend. My husband and mother-in-law – and I, were all going to go to the Ottawa area to see him play this weekend, however I wasn’t feeling all that well by the time Friday rolled around so I nixed the trip for myself.

There was a lot of planning for the trip going on all week too. For quite a while it looked like up to 10 people were going! As in quite a few of my in-laws! I finally heard from my sister-in-law mid-week or so last week and she said that they weren’t going to see our nephew play this weekend and that they were going to go in October instead. It’s better that the family staggers visits. The poor kid is from Chicago and he’s away from home for the first time in his life so seeing family every few weeks might be a good thing.

It was nice talking with my sister-in-law though. I hadn’t talked with her for quite a while. They’d just come home from closing up their cottage. She was saying that their big thing to do this weekend was to go out and look for swimming pool pumps because they’re going to need a new one next summer for the pool at the cottage. I guess they are cheaper at this time of year.

So here I am on my own this weekend. Busy learning how to use the learning module for my online classes and still working on my sites. I am enjoying the peace and quite in the house though – there’s been too much going on this summer, too many people in the house. I like it when I have time to myself.

How is your weekend?

My Living Room and Dining Room Renovation is coming along

August 10, 2012 by Tricia

I can’t wait until our living room and dining room renovations are finished. It’s very slow going.

It seems like every time we get on a roll we find something that sets us back a day or two. For example, today we were starting to put the quarter round on and noticed that in one area the floor must not have been sanded properly when we originally sanded it after taking off the original baseboards and quarter round so the wood floor was raised higher in one area and lower in another. So that resulted in a couple hours of sanding. Now we’ll have to do some staining and polyurethaning before we can resume our work.

At this rate it’s going to be a few more weeks before we have everything done, but I can almost see the finished product. Well I think I’ve had the finished room in my head for years I’ve just been waiting to see it for a long time.

When everything is finished I’m going to rearrange the furniture. I’d also like to either replace the tv stand – which is really nice, but very heavy to move when cleaning, or look at tv mounting brackets and maybe just have the TV mounted on the wall instead of on a stand. I don’t know, I’ll have to see.

My dog still uses her crate and that’s a big eye sore in the living room too. I’d love to either move that to another room or pack it up for storage … but she really likes sleeping in it. I don’t know. I guess that’s another thing I’ll have to think about once the living room dining room renovation is finished.

I’m just happy that the reno is almost done. Yeahhhhhh!
