Crohn’s flare again

May 13, 2009 by Tricia

I’m having a Crohn’s flare yet again. I blame this one directly on the fact that I had to stop my Crohn’s meds last Thursday.

I’ve pretty much had a constant fever for days, pain in my abdomen and that awful crampy pain that you get when you have severe diarrhea. Oh yeah and it’s like I’ve taken some kind of natural appetite suppressants because I have absolutely no appetite.

Remember that post I wrote recently where I said the only benefit of being sick is the weight loss … well if I keep up this way I’m going to end up being too thin!

I hate being sick. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!

Anyone having problems with Hostgator lately?

May 5, 2009 by Tricia

I’m having hosting problems again. If you’re a regular visitor to this site you’ve probably noticed that at times my blog (and all the other blogs I write) load really slow and sometimes you’ll see error messages scattered throughout the page as well.

I’ve also had problems with my Wp-posts databases crashing and needing repair too. Plus I often can’t edit old posts and get error messages when I try. Nor can I always post when I want to because of server slowness or errors. I’m just about at my wits end.

This started happening near the end of March. I think the reason my sites are having trouble is because HostGator upgraded their MySql to PHP 5.1 and it’s causing all the errors and slow load times.

Anyone else on HostGator experiencing problems in the last month or so? I’m sure there’s a few, as I’ve noticed some of the blogs I visit regularly loading really really slowly lately when they didn’t have problems in the past.

If they don’t fix the problem soon ie go back to a trouble free version of PHP I may be forced to look for a new host. I hate that idea! I’ve loved Hostgator since I started with them in 2007 after a terrible experience with Lunarpages.

Any suggestions? I have over 20 websites and blogs now with more on the way so I need a very good shared hosting package from a company that doesn’t overcrowded/oversell their servers or else move up to VPS hosting.

Speaking of Lunarpages … I finally transferred some of my old domains from their service in April. I didn’t have a hosting account with them any longer, but when I left I let them continue to handle my domains registration … bad move as this meant I had to deal with support several times each year begging them to renew my domains. Believe me, their support people need support and sales training in a big way! Anyway … my domains are now with GoDaddy … but get this … Lunarpages sent me a renewal notice today for one of my domains that they no longer control! So I’m still stuck dealing with their support trying to tell them that I really don’t have anything to do with them anymore! Arghhhh! Frustrating! They’d better not try to bill me!

So again, if you have any good hosting suggestions I’d love to hear about it, plus if you have any hosting horror stories feel free to pass that on too. LOL

The only benefit of being sick

May 5, 2009 by Tricia

Sorry I haven’t been writing much lately. As usual my Crohn’s has really been acting up. I got some kind of bug last week … kind of flu like, but not the dreaded Swine Flu (I’m fairly certain) and since my immune systems on hyper response due to the Crohn’s I tend to be sick longer from colds, flu’s and other bugs when I get them.

The only good thing about being so sick last week and well, for most of the year is that the few extra pounds that I’ve gained from not being active enough due to illness have literally fallen off! No need for Fenphedra pills or anything like it! I’ll be in fine bathing suit and shorts form by June if I can feel a little bit better and get a little exercise to tone up!

I just hope that I do feel better soon and stop losing weight. Back in 2001 I dropped 40 lb that I didn’t need to lose in a month! I was way too thin and that’s not good either. Damn Crohn’s.

Do you ever lose weight rapidly when you get sick?

Driving me nuts with questions!

May 5, 2009 by Tricia

My husbands cousin’s wife .. I guess I could call her my cousin-in-law, is driving me nuts! Since I’m a nurse she calls me up or sends me an email every time she’s sick or has some kind of health related question. As you might imagine, with Swine Flu in the news last week she called me at least three times a day!

Do you have any friends or relatives like that? People that ask your advice about something your knowledgeable about because of your work? Doesn’t it drive you nuts?

She’s calmer now about the flu … but now she wants to lose weight so she’s sending me questions about how to lose weight fast and sending me links to places like the atro phex review site for me to read and advice her!

** Big eye roll **

I think that I’m just not going to answer the phone or her email for a week or so and maybe she’ll get the hint.

Dog toys disappearing like socks in the dryer!

April 23, 2009 by Tricia

Ok, I think just about everyone has done a wash and ended up with missing socks – probably several times, right?

Well I think I’ve discovered something else that has that strange disappearing phenomenon. Dog toys, in particular, around here at least, white nylabones.

Back in December or early January Midnight was playing with the nub of her nylabone and then it seemed to just disappear in thin air. By nub, I mean it was just the end of what had been a foot long hard plastic bone – maybe the size of a small orange.

We searched the house looking under tables, chairs, the couches and in all the corners. It didn’t turn up. Then we thought that maybe it might have fallen between the couch seats (our loveseat, couch and lazyboy have a total of five reclining seats) so we searched all of the nooks and crannies in the couches and still didn’t find it.

Then we started to wonder if maybe she’d swallowed the darn thing. Labs will eat just about anything and even though it was probably a little big to swallow I suppose it’s possible.

Four or five months have gone by and we still haven’t found the bone nub. If Midnight did swallow the plastic bone she’s shown no signs of problems – not that it would be good to have a large piece of plastic bone in her stomach of course …

Fast forward to earlier this week. We bought her a new bone sometime in January and she’s been working on it ever since. Surprisingly the bone was still close to it’s original size, but the ends were worn, one in particular had a sharp arrow like point.

Just like the last time, one minute she was playing with it on the floor and the next it was gone. Where – who knows …. but again, I think it must be in one of the couches. We’ve searched, but we can’t find it. This time I’m 99% sure that she didn’t swallow it … it was just too big … if she did try to swallow it I’m sure she wouldn’t have been feeling well after doing so!

I think our couches are becoming like dryers … just like washing and drying socks – you never seem to get an even number back and with the bones, it seems that we lose ever second one we buy her. Where the heck do they go? Man, searching for lost dog toys is harder than one of those Wall St jobs I think! LOL

For those of you with pets or even kids for that matter … do you find that toys just suddenly seem to disappear without a trace? Have you ever found toys that have been missing for ages? If so where? Maybe your answers will give me some hints as to where to look for Midnight’s bones.
