Road rage and eye humping?

August 15, 2006 by Tricia

Chris and I went shopping again yesterday. No, no big spending this time. This was only a boring trip to the pharmacy and grocery store.

Outside of the drugstore we watched two idiots in their respective vehicles go through the throws of road rage.

It seems that a van trying to get out of the parking lot decided to do so by driving on the left side of the entrance. This meant that anyone wanting to drive into the drugstore parking lot would have to wait, or drive onto the right side of the entrance in order to get in. Considering that it was a van that was on the wrong side of the entrance, I think anyone trying to drive around it would probably be foolish since they wouldn’t have been able to see if another vehicle was trying to get out, and therefore might have ended up in an accident.

I don’t know if the van had stopped at the mouth of the entrance or if a car was trying to get in at the same time as the van was trying to get out on the wrong side. By the time we came along the two vehicles were head to head, or rather grill to grill. The car half on the street and half on the side walk. The van half in the parking lot, half on the sidewalk.

This would have been so much easier to write if I’d taken a picture! Duh! I didn’t though ’cause you never know what a person undergoing road rage will do.

Both drivers were screaming at the other to move. Chris and I stopped to watch the show as I got a coffee from the Tim Hortons window on the side of the drugstore. I was just waiting for some elderly or handicapped person to come along and find that they couldn’t use the sidewalk to get around the two idiots. Would the cars have finally moved for someone in need? Somehow I don’t think they would have.

After about five minutes we were bored. The idiots weren’t moving and we had other things to do. We got in our car and carefully pulled out of the lot. As we were driving out we saw three police officers walking towards the stand off. I guess someone that had walked by the idiots saw the cops as they pulled into a dinner up the street to get their coffee and or breakfast and asked them to intervene. Curious Chris decided to pull over to watch the action, however it wasn’t very interesting as both vehicles moved as soon as the police officers briefly spoke to each of them.

Are you a road rager? Or have you seen some interesting cases of Road rage? Leave me a comment about your experience.

On to the grocery store.

As I was deciding which kinds of fruit and veggies I wanted to purchase, my husband Chris went off to get some other items. He returned within minutes though and he looked uneasy. He said to me “Stay with me baby, that guy over there is giving me the creeps! He keeps eye humping me!” I’ll protect you babe, just stick with me.

I just about keeled over with laughter. Eye Humping? I’ve heard a lot of terms to describe being oogled, but eye humping is a new one to me. Did my husband just invent a new term? If he did I like it because it completely describes how it feels to be gazed upon by someone with lust in their eyes who you have absolutely no interest in. At least Chris knows what that feels like now.

I just asked Chris if he’d heard that term before and he told me that he got it from the Family guy’s Peter Griffin. Yeah, of course he did, that’s his favorite show.

So, when was the last time you got eye humped, and what did you do about it?

Shopping Sprees

August 13, 2006 by Tricia

Last day! Last day I say to visit my wonderful renter Winsome. Today’s post is called “The Hearts of Men” and you should read it.

__________________________

How does a trip out to the store to buy some rechargeable batteries and a recharger for my Pentax digital camera end up being a three or four hour long buying spree?

That shopping trip happened about a week and a half ago. On the 3rd of August to be exact.

Now you don’t think I’d be telling you about my shopping trip if all we did that day was purchase a battery recharger and the batteries to go along with it do you? Of course not. We got some milk too.

We also ended up buying me a brand new digital camera! I’d been looking dreamily at several new digital cameras for the last year or so. There is nothing wrong with my tiny little Pentax Optio 330 GS 3.2 mp. I’ve enjoyed taking photos with it and if I do say so myself I think many of the photos turn out fairly well. But, I just wanted a new camera. One with more bells and whistles, one that could take even better macro shots and good night or low light shots.

I was leaning towards a digital SLR camera, but the price and the learning curve held me back in the end. I’m sure that when the time comes my next digital will be an SLR.

Back to what I did buy! I’m so excited about this camera. I’ve been reading information on the various products out there, but you never know how you are going to like something such as a camera or even a laptop until you get it in your hands and try it out.

I got a Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 7.2 Megapixels. A few of the photos that I’ve put up on my sites in the last week were taken by this camera. Unfortunately my latest Green Thumb entry below was not taken by the new Cybershot or else the reds would look more realistic. My Pentax always has trouble with very vibrant colors such as reds and oranges, but not this little baby. Almost all of the photos so far have come out pretty much as I’ve seen them in real life.

I’m still playing with my new toy. I had some great opportunities to play from Thursday last week onward. We went to a Hindu wedding on Thursday, a Catholic Wedding and the wedding reception of Friday, and then on Saturday we spent time with family visiting some great Toronto sights. I just need to upload all of the photos onto my computer and I’ll start telling you about some of the events of the past few days.

Oh, best news of all. They didn’t have any new cameras in stock. They only had an open box. The camera appeared to be brand spanking new and they were selling it with the full warranty guaranteed. So that’s the one I took. They gave me $50 off the price. Then they gave me another $50 store coupon that was used immediately against my purchase, THEN they took $30 off the price of the 2 gig memory stick that I was buying. Deal!

In other shopping news …

Last Monday my husband and I had to go out and look for a new keyboard since our lovely boarder fried the one in her room, see my non venom post for more info on this if you really care.

Before we went to the store I looked at my husband and said, “You know how I’ve been talking about wanting to get a laptop for oh, the last five or six years?” He looked at me and nodded his head. he knew what was coming.

I went on to say “Well, why don’t we look at them while we are out? I bet there are a lot of sales right now since it’s “back to school” time.” He ended up agreeing because he knows that if I got a laptop I’d be able to slouch on the couch with it when I’m not feeling well, or take it out to the garden to write from the yard. A shoppin’ we did go.

Now I have a brand new laptop. We also purchased a wireless Linksys – we had had a wired network prior to this for our two computers, but now that we’ve added a laptop to the mix the only way to go was wireless so that I could use it where ever and when ever.

The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv 5000 (dv5240 ca actually) and it’s fantastic! I won’t bore you with the details but I’m happy with all of it’s features. I just have to get used to the keyboard. it feels so smooth compared to my desktop keyboard. The tappad is another thing that I’m slowly getting used to as well. I bought an optical mouse that I can use with it, and I bought a webcam to (but I haven’t attached it yet).

The shopping sprees are definitely over for now. Neither was in the budget.

Blogroll mania

August 6, 2006 by Tricia

I spent part of Saturday creating three new blogrolls that I think some of you might be interested in joining.

I’ve been busy trying to think of ways to get more traffic to my site and gain readers, and I’ve found that through the blogrolls that I’ve joined and participate on that I’ve not only gained traffic, but I’ve gained some regular visitors too. Along the way I think I might even have made a few friends.

I thought I’d give some of that back to the blogging community by creating a few blogrolls that people might like to join.

The first is the Fabulous Photoblogs blogroll. When I started my photoblog I went looking for sites to get listed on and I found very few that were specifically for photoblogs. There also isn’t any blogrolls that only photoblogs can join. well, if there is I didn’t find them, and I did search. As of this moment I have the only photoblog on the roll but I do hope that others are interested as it would be a great way for all of us to keep track of the great photo posts that the photoblogs are doing.

The next two blogrolls are also very specific rolls:

Toronto Bloggers blogroll – open to any bloggers that come from the GTA area, who post regularly and who fit in with the other guidelines in order to qualify for a spot on the blogroll.

I am Canadian blogroll – Calling all Canadian bloggers. Lets keep track of each other and build a small community of blogs. You can join this blogroll if you live in Canada or your an expat Canadian.

I’m thinking of creating one more blogroll that is less specific. One that would be open to most everyone that updates their site regularly and who don’t have offensive material on their site. Would you be interest in being listed on a general blogroll? If you would, you would of course need to put the blogroll on your site in order to maintain your listing.

If you want me to start yet another blogroll let me know. I’d also appreciate it if you helped me come up with a great name for it. It’s 4 a.m. right now and my brain is a little fried. Hmmm, I’m just looking at the title of this post and perhaps we should call a new blogroll the Blogmania blogroll?

The post below is also connected to a blogroll that I started about a month ago. The Green Thumb Sunday blogroll. If you are a gardener and want to participate on that blogroll and the meme attached to it let me know.

Ok I’m all blogged and rolled out (gee, it took me a minute to type the first 6 words!). I must sleep now. Good night. zzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzz

Locked and Unlocked Doors

August 1, 2006 by Tricia

Things that make you go Hmmm …

My husband is really bad about locking the door when he goes out of the house. He’s not bad about locking the front door when he goes to work or goes out for several hours. It’s the back door that causes all the problems with him.

He goes outside to bbq and doesn’t lock the door when he comes back inside.

He goes out into the garden or to sit out on the patio and doesn’t lock the door when he returns.

He takes garbage or recycling outside, or just goes out to check the temperature and doesn’t lock up when he returns.

It’s not unusual for me to find the back door unlocked at midnight or early in the morning after he’s gone to work. I’m the door locker around here it seems.

The only time that my husband consistently locks the back door is when I’m outside doing something in the garden and he’s decided it’s time for him to return inside.

Hmmm do you think that means something?

Speaking of locked doors, our boarder has started to not lock the front door when she returns home from school. I’ve found it unlocked when I’ve come inside from the backyard. How the heck can I make sure no one is entering the house that shouldn’t if I’m in the backyard?

This morning our boarder breached the lock door rule in the worst way. She left the house at 8 a.m. and didn’t lock the door. I came downstairs when I woke up to find the door unlocked.

We air-condition our house with window air-conditioners. When I’m upstairs in our room I can’t hear what goes on downstairs. Anyone could have walked in and robbed us or worse.

Worse still … we live in a pretty good neighborhood but no area is truly crime free, is it? I was listening to the news today and heard that a house just four major blocks from here was invaded early this morning. The homeowner was tied up by two or three assailants. There hasn’t been further news yet but I’m curious to find out more about this since it happened so close to our home.

Update: I did find out more about it and it turns out that it’s a dumb criminal story, perfect for my other blog Odd Planet. I’m posting the story of the Sleeping Criminals right now. LOL

And here I find our door unlocked. All I could think of when I heard about the home invasion was how easy it would have been for someone to break in and do that to my husband and I while we slept upstairs, oblivious to the breach of security.

I’m furious.

My husband and I had planned to sit down and talk with her about this when she came home from school and let her know that we were very upset that the door had been unlocked. As I said above she almost never locks it when she returns home from school, so I’ve slowly been becoming upset with her over this anyway.

What does my husband do instead? While I was in another room he whispered to her buddy buddy like and told her that she’d left the door unlocked and that it had better not happen again. He spoke to her as if I didn’t know about it and like it was a secret between them.

Chris doesn’t like confrontations or controversy. He holds all his stress inside and tries to avoid unpleasant situations. Not necessarily a healthy thing. Sure you can’t go around blowing up over little things all the time, but I think that if you get your frustration out, even over small things, when something is bothering you that you handle stress better overall, especially when something really bad happens. My husband lets it all build up inside and as a result when some huge problem arises that ends up causing a lot of stress (ie illness in family, death, major money issues etc) he doesn’t handle it all that well.

So I think he was trying to avoid a big blow up. We had one last week when I found out that our boarder had thrown out a sandwich that she’d made herself for her own lunch last week, since she’s decided that, get this – she doesn’t like sandwiches or bread anymore? Huh … she made a sandwich – Herself – then she throws it out? What a waste. See my post Little princess is driving me mad for more info on the stuff that’s been going on in the past week or two with our boarder.

We gave in, as we always seem to do, on the sandwich thing and we’re letting her make her own food. She expressed a desire to eat sushi for lunch from now on. Fine, tell me how much it’s going to cost, and if it comes in at the same price as the sandwiches that we’ve been making for you, or the ones you’ve been making for yourself you can do it. Turns out the very simple sushi is in the same price range so we went with her on Sunday to Korea town and bought the supplies.

Sigh … last night she was complaining that sushi is too hard to make and very time consuming. If she gives up on this it’s back to sandwiches. I’m not going back and forth anymore. This is it.

We’ve been giving in to a lot of her demands requests. All we ask of her is that she locks the door when she leaves and when she returns, cleans her room once a week, rinses her dishes after eating (not wash, just rinse), and keep the air-conditioner that we placed in her room turned on if she’s got her door open, if she’s on the main floor with us, or if she’s out of the house – if we’ve asked her to have it on. I don’t think that we are asking too much, and we’ve given far more than we’ve asked for in return.

Last night she breached the air conditioning rule. She came home from school at around 5 pm, and decide that she was exhausted due to the heat outside so she went upstairs for a nap. I’d had her air-conditioner turned up high. She turned it off. Fine, the door was closed, it doesn’t matter if it’s on or off if the door is closed because it’s not doing anything to cool the house when her door is closed.

At about 6:30 she came down for dinner, then proceeded to look through our phone for past phone calls. She was looking for one of her friends numbers. I regret showing her that feature on the phone because of course she’s seeing all the people who have called us when she does that and it feels like an invasion of privacy when she does that. (really, read the princess story and see how she thinks her privacy was invaded!)

Anyway, we had dinner and she proceeded to use our phone for about an hour and a half. When she first moved in she had a cell phone but she got rid of it … now she uses ours. grrr. At 9 p.m. she decided to go and meet some friends. Fine. Out the door she goes at 9:20 p.m. or so. A while later I noticed that our main floor was getting warm and I happened to go upstairs. Her air conditioner wasn’t even turned on. It was still 30 Celsius ( 86 F) at 10 pm last night, but it felt warmer due to extreme humidity. Not a good time to have an air conditioner turned off if you are lucky enough to have one. Plus, I had a fever all day yesterday, I didn’t need a warm house when I was in that condition.

When she came home we told her about her air-conditioner being off and figured it had been off for 5 hours considering she had said she turned it off when she went up for a nap at 5 pm. She’s done this before, so I told her that if she did it again we would remove the air conditioner from her room. She turns it off most of the time when she’s in there, so it’s not like this is a huge punishment or anything, and if we moved it we’d gain back control of it.

Today it’s 36 Celsius (98.6 F) with a heat index of 47 C (116 F). That’s damn hot. If she turns off her air conditioner today on top of leaving the house unlocked this morning war will break out tonight.

Hubby and I are going to have a talk with her at dinner time about the unlocked door. I asked Chris why he spoke to her so secretively about finding the door unlocked this morning and he said he just didn’t want to have a confrontation. Unfortunately I think this is a very serious issue so we need to discuss it together. I don’t want it to end up in a fight or argument. I just want her to understand how serious an issue it could be if we’d been robbed or worse because she left the door unlocked. She needs to take some responsibility for her actions.

We are looking for a new boarder. If we find one in the next few days we are going to give her notice to move out. She’s driving me insane. She is the BIGGEST problem in my life right now and I have the power to stop it. It’s just unfortunate that we need a boarder at all at this time.

Big changes ahead.

_________________________

For those who inquired and sent good thoughts and prayers for Chris he’s doing better. He didn’t go to work yesterday because he didn’t feel great when he got up but he’s been doing well since then. I don’t think the stress in the house does him any good, especially since he doesn’t handle stress well. We need to eliminate the major source of stress and soon.
