April Wine on Tour Again

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Do you guys remember the Canadian Rock band April Wine?

They had some pretty big hits with songs like Fast Train, Rock & Roll is a Vicious Game, Roller, You could have been a lady, Bad side of the moon, I wouldn’t want to lose your love, You won’t dance with me and Tonite is a wonderful time to fall in love.

Well, ever since we moved into this area we’ve known that one of the band members from April Wine lives on the street behind us. We still haven’t run into him, but Chris ran into another old time rock n’ roller a couple of weeks ago and we now know which house he lives in. Oh and that other musician that Chris ran into wants Chris to jam with his band sometime too. That’s a story for Chris to tell on his site Guitar Licks though.

Anyway … I got sidetracked … The reason why I was bringing up April Wine in the first place is that I just heard over th weekend that they are back together and touring again. They’ll be playing here in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on November 22nd. Chris and I both really enjoy their music so we might try to get tickets for the concert.

Anyone else an April Wine fan?

Chris and the talent show

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday was Chris’ day off work but he ended up going to work for a while anyway.

He’d planned to go to work on Monday most of last week. You see they had a talent contest at lunch time and Chris had planned to play guitar and sing a song with another guitar player. It didn’t help that his workplace called at 8:30 in the morning asking if he could do an extra shift because someone had called in sick. Chris managed to pass that shift on to someone else though as he really wanted to be in the talent contest.

Before the contest Chris went to work to help them set up the “stage”. Somehow he managed to get sidetracked by someone and ended up helping one of the other hospital employees put IBM memory in a computer! Yes it was one of the IT staff he was helping. I don’t think that there’s anyone Chris doesn’t know in the hospital.

Chris and his friend from work did well in the talent contest. They came in second! They probably would have won, but one of the nurses that works in the hospital brought in a saw and played Amazing Grace on her saw. Strange talent, but she must have been good at it as she won.

I didn’t even ask Chris if he won a prize or anything for coming in second. I’ll have to ask him in the morning.

Learn to dance the Salsa, Merengue, Cha-Cha and Bachata

September 15, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever wanted to learn how to dance the Salsa? It’s a lovely dance and it’s fun too.

Perhaps you experimented with Latin dance while on a vacation? Come on, you’ve tried it haven’t you? I was lucky enough to learn to Salsa and Meringue when I was only 12 years old as I got to spend two months in the Caribbean visiting my brother. He lived and worked on one of the islands and I have wonderful memories of that time.

Never mind vacations and dancing I’ve noticed that over the last few years there’s been a lot of interest in various types of dance. Look at shows like Dancing with Stars – doesn’t that make you want to dance too?

I think people have become more interested in dance because the television shows have made it so much more popular, and also because the stars in the dance shows really get themselves in good shape. Just look at how their bodies change from the start of the dance competitions to the finales? The stars are in fantastic shape after all those hours of dancing. If dancing will do that for me – sign me up!

If you’re interested in dance you should visit the Salsa, Merengue & Bachata Dance Bootcamp. It’s an online dance school. Imagine that.

As a member of the online Salsa BootCamp you can watch videos that will take you step by step through each of the Latin dances that they teach. Lessons start off with the most basic of steps and work their way through to advanced dance steps. As a member you’ll also receive free professional quality DVDs that you can use to practice dance steps anywhere.

Just think. You can learn how to do these beautiful dances in the privacy of your own home. It’s a fun way to get some exercise and you’ll be able to surprise your family and friends when you show them how well you can do the Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha and Bachata.

When you sign up to learn to Dance with Salsa Dancing BootCamp you’ll get two free DVD’s right off the bat. You can start with a three day free membership if you want to explore the site and begin a few dance lessons in order to see if you’ll enjoy the courses. If you want to continue after your first free three day trial you can choose from a month, three month or one year membership. You’ll get free DVD’s and Salsa dance music with each membership.

It certainly sounds like fun and there’s plenty of lessons to take at the Salsa Bootcamp. Who knows, I might even sign up and brush up on my mostly forgotten Salsa and Merengue dance steps too.

Handy site lists 101 different tools to convert video, audio and more

September 12, 2007 by Tricia

Earlier today as I was surfing the net I came across a site called Conversion Central. It lists 101 tools to convert video, audio, music, image, PDFs and more. I’ve already bookmarked the site because I’m certain it will come in handy when I’m trying to find something to convert some type of file into another in the future.

I wanted to tell you about the site, because I’m sure you’ll find it handy too.

I mean, there’s been times in the past when I’ve tried to find software that would convert video from my cell phone to the more common AVI format. It was a frustrating search that took hours, but I finally did find something that would convert the files for me. Now of course I’m sure the software that I downloaded has expired or is outdated so it’s nice to have found this site that lists just about every kind of conversion tool that you can imagine.

Not only will you find a multitude of tools that will help you with converting video, converting music or converting images into different formats, but you’ll also find software and tools that will convert PDF files to Word documents and other formats, or convert text and rss and other text formats to PDF.

Scrolling down the page I also found tools for converting Power Point, Excel, drafting documents to new formats and tools to convert measurements, temperatures, currency, and even clothing sizes!

You have to check this site out. I’d be surprised if you didn’t at least bookmark or favorite it, like I did, once you visit.

Thinking about video and regular podcasts

September 6, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been watching that new television show I-Caught again. I’ve watched three shows so far, and each time I watch it my head starts to buzz with ideas of things that I or my husband could do on the internet.

My latest idea revolves around my husband. As you might remember we purchased an HD video camera for him about a month and a half ago when I got my new digital SLR camera. The plan for his blog, Guitar Licks, has always been to include video guitar lessons. Now I’m expanding that thought.

I was thinking that maybe we could find a free podcast site to upload his videos to, but instead of just doing guitar lessons he could talk about various types of music and different types of guitars and equipment. Very niche obviously, but I’m pretty sure he’d enjoy doing the videos and he’s a fantastic musician with a lot of knowledge to share so those interested in watching his videos would get something out of it.

Another idea that I had involves podcasts or internet radio type shows. There’s a few bloggers that I know doing these regular weekly shows now and I think Chris would be very good at it. Perhaps I’d join him. Hmmm the Chris and Trish show?

Sure I know for the videos we could just upload to YouTube, but I think if we uploaded the video podcasts to a podcast site with a community built around it the content he’d create would be picked up easier and perhaps build a following.

Do any of you do video or regular podcasts? Which sites do you use? How about internet radio shows or weekly broadcast type sites?

BTW did any of you submit your three words to i-caught? I think that’s a great feature. We didn’t get around to it what with my family reunion keeping us busy but I hope to make a submission in a day or so.
