The Snow Cave

November 22, 2007 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

It’s supposed to snow here tonight. If it doesn’t snow at the very least we’re going to get freezing rain. Yuck!

This is a photo that I took a few years ago when we went to the beach area here in Toronto in January. Believe it or not it was a nice day and it was fun walking along the beach and by the water and discovering interesting formations like this snow cave that the water, snow and ice had created.

Sorry this post is so late. I’ve been feeling bad most of the week and all my posts have been delayed.

I miss my job

November 22, 2007 by Tricia

When Chris came home from work the other day he told me about all the changes to the ER.

I’m an ER nurse and I’ve been off sick from the department for close to two years. Obviously it’s been some time since I even went in to visit my old co-workers. When I was hospitalized two weeks ago it was in one of our downtown hospitals … maybe I should have gone to our ER instead.

They’ve been renovating the space and expanding! It looks like emerg is going to double in size and that’s a good thing. Our ER is said to be the second busiest in Canada. Hopefully they hire an adequate amount of staff to manage the new areas. Even though the ER probably always had the most staff on during a shift out of any other hospital department with the amount of patients coming through the doors it almost always felt like we were understaffed.

What they really need there is better time and employee management – starting with the admins! Maybe a business performance management system needs to be installed as well along with all the other upgrades.

I really missed being there as Chris told me about all the changes. I truly loved being an ER nurse and I miss my job. If this darn Crohn’s would just settle down I could go back.

Winters not here and I’m already longing for Spring!

Look at that. It’s the first night that I’m aware of it being below zero and now all I can think of is how I can’t wait for spring to come! This is a photo of Toronto’s Beach area just off of Lakeshore boulevard in early spring. Pretty isn’t it?

I think part of the reason is that I was going over a number of my older photos yesterday and I was looking at so many pictures of spring flowers that, that started my pining for Spring.

Well … I may have something to help me get through winter, but the catch is that it will probably make me go out and face the cold more often. Ironic eh? I’ll tell you about it in another post later today.

Have a great Sunday!

Winter is coming!

November 18, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how cold it is here! It’s -3 Celsius (26 F) right now!

We still haven’t done much to prepare our garden for winter. Who am I kidding we’ve barely cleaned up the fallen leaves! I guess we’ll have to go out into the yard later today and freeze our butts off and get all that work done or at least start it. It normally takes about two full days to do all the garden winterizing work. I’m not looking forward to it.

I know it’s not that cold, but I have fevers all the time, and when your running a fever even a reasonable temperature can make you feel cold.

The next thing I want to do is maybe get one of those car covers. A really heavy duty one. We live close to work and mainly only drive our car about once a week to go to the grocery store or to visit friends and our car is starting to get old. I’m afraid that all that exposure to snow and ice is going to make it start to rust out. I don’t know if a car cover would protect it that much but at least our doors won’t freeze shut like they normally do!

Are you starting to feel winters arrival too?

Our neighbors home is still up for sale

November 8, 2007 by Tricia

Our neighbors house hasn’t sold yet. I’m not all that surprised though. They haven’t done anything to improve it. Remember that ugly rock wall I told you about? If I was interested in buying the house that’d be the first thing I’d take out! Well of course I’d do that as I know that’s part of the reason sound from their house travels so easily into ours.

They keep having open houses. I think the house has been for sale for about a month now and they’ve had at least five open houses. That’s a lot for this area – especially when homes often sell in a week here! They’ve even still got an Open house sign on their lawn. It says it’s for Sunday but it’s still there! They might as well have a sign that says denver homes for sale for all the good the open houses are doing. I think they have to lower the price if they’re going to get any bites.

My biggest fear is that their house will get sold sometime in the next few days while we’re away. Perhaps to one of the really noisy families that I’ve heard go through their house. Honest, if really really noisy people end up moving in there Chris and I will end up having to sell our house.
