In the Spring I plan on riding my bike more often

February 22, 2008 by Tricia

Spring will be here soon and if you’re like me, suffering through a very cold winter with lots of snow, you’re probably yearning for the nice weather to arrive. Usually by this time of year I’ve got cabin fever. It’s not quite as bad this year because we’ve got the puppy and whether I like it or not I’ve been getting outside every single day. No matter how cold it’s been. Brrrr

As I said when we got our puppy one of the reasons we got her was so that I could get more active. That new resolve had led to a lot more walking. I think I probably walk at least three to five extra miles each day now.

When the weather gets better, in about a month, I’ll get my bike out and hopefully start to go for rides a few times a week if not every day. If I don’t ride too fast our puppy can trot along beside me for while I go for a short ride.

We do need to get another bike though. My husband Chris has two bikes but neither of them are in good shape. One is a ten speed that only has one speed now! The other is also a 10 speed but it’s totally dismantled.

So I think one of the things we’ll purchase in the next month or so is a new bike for Chris. We have great bike trails near us here in almost downtown Toronto and then there’s always the boardwalk area at the beach too. They’re great areas for both walks, runs and bike rides.

I took a look at the Beach Cruiser website and I really like one or two of the cruiser bike styles. I think Chris will like them too.

I really like the yellow one that I included an image of at the top of this post! It’s so bright you couldn’t miss it and I like the style too. It’s a womens model and the price is quite reasonable too! Who knows, maybe I’ll even get myself a new bike too! They accept credit card and Paypal as forms of payment. Perhaps I could get the two of us new bikes using the earnings in my Paypal account. Now that would be nice!

They have cruisers for men, women and children as well as low rider and chopper style models too. Take a look at the site if you’ve been thinking of getting a new bike or if you have plans to become more active this Spring.

I’m certain that any of the cruiser models would make a fantastic gift for someone special in your life too.

My pretty girl

February 22, 2008 by Tricia

I haven’t been taking as many pictures of Midnight, my lab puppy lately as I should.

I figure that I should try to take a few pics each week as she changes so much just in that short amount of time. Soon enough she’ll start to reach her adult size and won’t be changing so much anymore.

The last photos I took were at her puppy training graduation. I’ve got some photos of her and the other puppies with graduation caps on. I just haven’t transferred them from the camera to the computer yet!

Here’s one of nicest photos I’ve taken of her to date. I took this photo in the middle of January after we came back from her first grooming session:

Midnight - black and white

She was kind of tired after the experience so it was the perfect time to snap a shot of my normally hyperactive Lab puppy.

Here’s another shot I took that day. Isn’t she just the cutest?

Of course she’s always cute when she’s sleeping. She’s really developing her jowls … look at how much extra skin she’s got on the side of her face!

Anyone else have a puppy at home or some cute puppy pictures to share?

Too cold for outdoor activity

February 22, 2008 by Tricia

Well so much for my attempt at weight loss. I made quite a bit of progress in the first month that we had our puppy but since then I’ve either been feeling so sick or it’s been so cold outside (or both) that I haven’t been as active. So my progress has slowed.

What a vicious cycle. I’m sick and in pain so I’m not all that active which caused me to gain a bit of weight (my medications have as well (steroids)) and then when I want to get more active I can’t – again because of the pain. Arghhh!

I hope the weather starts to get better soon. It’s too easy to make the excuse that I’m not going to walk the dog because it’s -20 or even -30 Celsius (-22 F) outside (that’s darn cold!). Of course I’m not just making the excuse because I don’t want to go. Even the puppy doesn’t want to walk very far when it’s that cold out either!

Only a month or so ’till Spring and nicer weather. I can’t wait.

A great Toronto search engine

February 17, 2008 by Tricia

I’ve found a great site to search for all things Toronto for those of you who live or who are visiting this great city. The site is called Toronto Major League Search and it’s easy and handy to use.

Say you need a cab and can’t remember the number for the cab company that you normally use, just go to Toronto Major League search and type in taxi or the name of the cab company and a results page will come up. You’ll likely be able to find the cab company that you’re searching for with a simple search such as this.

When you do a search you can also specify a location. For example I live in a part of the Toronto known as The Danforth so I did a search for Restaurants and I wrote The Danforth in the location area. This brought up about 6 pages of restaurant results. The various restaurant locations were shown on a medium sized Google map with the restaurant listings to the right of the Google map.

I did find that I got better results with my searches when I was more specific. For example I decided to search for Greek restaurants on Danforth Ave and more of the restaurant results seems to be on Danforth.

I do like that the site is tied in with Google maps. It’s nice to be able to see where something that you’ve searched for its located. It will save a lot of time in deciding which location to give my business to if I can pick one out easily that’s close to where I am.

Just like most search engines you can search for pretty much anything. give it a try and see if you find Toronto Major League Search helpful too.

Oh and if you know of a great business that should be listed on the site you can submit it using the link at the bottom of each page.

A full and lovely rose

I think this will be one of my favorite roses in my garden this summer. It’s Chicago Peace, a hybrid tea, and I just started growing it last summer.

It’s choke full of petals and the blooms are quite large. It’s a can’t miss flower once it’s blooming in the garden.

I planted it near my patio so that I can enjoy it’s beauty when I’m sitting outside in the summer or perhaps entertaining guests outdoors.

Chicago Peace has a light scent. I’ve found you have to get close to the rose to pick up it’s scent, but once you can smell it it’s quite nice.

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while. I’ve been feeling absolutely terrible this week! Plus, as I explained on my gardening blog my mouse died yesterday and our internet connections been on and off thanks to heavy ice storms and rain!

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information. GTS participants remember to check in at As the Garden Grows each week so that we’ll know you made a new post!
