Chris is driving through an area with a tornado warning!

July 8, 2007 by Tricia

It’s Chris’ birthday today.

He’s not here though!

Last night he drove to his hometown of Brantford Ontario because his brother and nephew were coming in from Chicago.

I heard from him at around 3 pm today when they were in Guelph. Chris’ nephew is here to go to hockey camp but there’s been a mess up with the schedule. He’ll be having his lessons and playing in the evenings and that kind of messes up Chris’ sisters schedule. She was going to have our nephew stay at her home and get him to camp every day, but the schedule change threw a bit of wrench into the family plans for the week.

I don’t know what solution they’ve come up with, but I do know that Chris ended up in Kitchener- where his sister and her husband lives and that they had a barbecue.

Chris called me at a little after 8 pm. He’s on his way home but he was calling to ask me what the weather was supposed to be like because all of a sudden the sky’s looked “really weird”. Turns out he’s driving through an area that was due to possibly have a tornado go through it at around 8:30.

He was already on the road and driving away from the Tornado area when I started to suggest that he drive back to his sisters and make sure that he and everyone else was safe. He’s continuing on his way.

I haven’t heard from him since he called a little more than half an hour ago, but I’ve got the weather channel on and they aren’t reporting that a tornado touched down yet so hopefully he’s safe.

I wish that he’d come home earlier like he was supposed to!

We’re expecting severe thunderstorms and hail at any time here in Toronto so he could be driving into another area of severe weather.

I ran outside after he called and took our umbrella off our patio table (hurt my back doing it too!) and made sure the plants that I haven’t put in the ground yet are safe and secure.

We can have some pretty severe storms here in Southern Ontario – particularly after we’ve had a very hot day, and today was a hot one. It was supposed to get up to 34 Celsius or so but with the humidity would feel well into the 40’s – that’s 106 + for those that don’t know the metric system.

Keep your fingers crossed would you that Chris gets home safe?

Oh BTW I know I’m behind in getting my Photo Hunters and Green Thumb Sunday posts up – but they’re coming. Well, unless a storm knocks the power out!

I wonder what our house is worth

July 6, 2007 by Tricia

I’m starting to think that I should call our real estate broker and get our house appraised!

Every week we receive a few promo flyers from the various real estate agents or companies that work in our area and the prices of houses around here have just gone up and up since we purchased our home in June of 2001.

One of the real estate flyers we got today is for an open house for a detached home less than a block away from my house. I know exactly which house it is, and even though it’s detached (small walkway between houses – which means no driveway, no garage etc) there’s no way that this house is any bigger than my own. In fact it might even be smaller.

Plus, we have a shared driveway. This house doesn’t even have a driveway! We’d have to share our drive with our neighbor if she had a car with maybe one of us parking on the street every second week or something, but at least we have a driveway and space between our houses!

Take a wild guess how much the asking price is?

$499,000! Uh huh. Really.

We bought our house 6 years ago for less than 200,000 and at that time it was a steal because the rest of the houses in the neighborhood were going at $250,000 plus. The owners needed to sell the house to move into their new retirement home by a certain date. That’s why we got such a great deal on a solid house – new roof, new windows, new water pipes. There was nothing we had to do to fix up the house.

So I figure our semi-detached house would go for about $400,000 – perhaps even without or reno complete!

Not that we are planning on moving anytime soon. I mean, if we moved we’d more than likely end up purchasing a house about the same size in the $400,000 + range since the market is high right now. We’d gain, but the new house would be expensive.

Still it’d be nice to get our home appraised just to see what it would be worth on todays real estate market. Unless a prospective buyer hates yard work of any kind I’m sure our landscaped front and backyard gardens would help set the price a bit higher too.

Have you ever had your home appraised just for the heck of it to see what it would be worth if you decided to sell?

I need a ME day

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

I think I’m going to go on a shopping spree this weekend. I need to get some new pants, maybe I’ll splurge and get a pair of true religion jeans. I just love the look of those jeans. They’re fantastic! Have you tried them?

Oh and I’ve got to get my hair cut. It’s getting way too long. I like my hair short – just like my avatar in the blog header. That style. Of course my hair doesn’t look anything like that right now since I’ve needed a hair cut for a few weeks!

Yeah I think Saturday will be a ME day. A little shopping for some things that I need and a nice new hair cut.

Do you ever do that? I mean plan a shopping day or a day to treat yourself? I think we all have to some times.

How’d I get so mixed up?

July 4, 2007 by Tricia

Time has been thrown off for me! Does that ever happen to you? You think it’s Monday but it’s either Sunday or Tuesday?

Earlier in my post about my new camera I said that I’d get my new photos on my computer and maybe post some for Wordless Wednesday tomorrow. Uh as far as I know it’s still Wednesday today, although there isn’t much left! LOL

I’ve been so busy working on my sites since early Friday morning to cure that stupid CPU resource overuse problem that I’m still having with my web host that I’ve totally lost track of time!

It doesn’t help that our Canadian holiday was on Sunday (Canada Day) so Chris had Monday off work. He also took Tuesday off work because his brother from Chicago had told us the wrong dates that he’d be coming to Toronto so Chris thought he’d take an extra day off so he’d have more time with his brother but it turns out his brother isn’t coming until this weekend.

No wonder I’m all off kilter!

Oh well. If I do manage to get to the photos that I took on my new camera I will be posting one or two of them so you can see how nice my new camera works.

Canada Day!

July 1, 2007 by Tricia

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

I’m sorry I haven’t been around. I’ve had major web host problems that I’ve spent the last few days trying to fix. What a headache! Literally.

I was also supposed to have gone out of town this weekend – didn’t happen.

We had a friend over instead while I fretted over my sites.

So much for seeing the fireworks that are going off as I type!

I only just got Tricia’s Musings back online. I’ll tell you about it in the next post though … this message is mainly to wish all my Canadian friends a very very happy Canada Day!
