News anchor tells drivers to push cars home if they have to

September 13, 2012 by Tricia

I was watching TV earlier today and when the news came on I saw a report that I found kind of funny. I really don’t think I’ve ever heard a news anchor tell drivers to push their cars home rather than buy gas ever before – have you?

The reason why she was suggesting that drivers not buy gas today is because gas prices sky rocketed the other day and now prices are set to drop by 6 or 7 cents a litre once again on Friday (tomorrow). Here’s a photo ..

News anchor tells drivers not to buy gas but to push their cars home - hilarious!
“Wait until Friday to visit the Gas Station – Push your car home if you have to, Gas prices across the country are expected to drop by more than six cents a litre Friday morning.”

It’s all because of Hurricane Issac .. remember him .. he passed through parts of the US almost two weeks ago? Yeah, even though there was no damage to major oil production areas prices are going up and down as a result. I don’t understand .. especially when we have our own oil and gas here in Canada. Strange.

Have your gas prices been fluctuating too?

Taking advantage of the great weather

September 13, 2012 by Tricia

It looks like this is going to be a beautiful week in Toronto. It’s supposed to be sunny and warm all week. Lovely.

I took advantage of the great weather yesterday. I had to go to my new college campus to buy one of my college text books for my online course and since my campus is on the waterfront I took the time to take several pictures while I was there. I love Toronto’s waterfront area. It’s beautiful. There’s so much to do and it’s so pretty!
Sugar Beach Toronto's Waterfront
As it turns out George Brown college moved the nursing division from St. James campus to the Waterfront campus. The Waterfront campus happens to be right beside Sugar beach which is this kind of cool looking fake beach with white sand that over looks the lake. It’s right beside the Redpath sugar plant and I’m sure that’s likely why it’s called Sugar Beach. It’s very pretty with it’s pink umbrellas. Of course, while I enjoyed the sunny day and warm weather, beautiful sites and lovely beach it only served to remind me that in a few short months I’ll be putting up the christmas ornaments. Now isn’t that a scary thought!

Once we were done picking up my text book at the college book store and walking around on the water front my husband suggested we check out something that was pretty much across the street from the college campus. The Sherbourne Common. I really hadn’t heard of this area or seen the cool water features or other green items that were there prior to my visit yesterday, but I was blown away once we got there.

The Sherbourne common has three huge water falls that are composed of water streaming down mesh screens. It’s extremely cool to look at. The water is recycled back into the lake I believe if I read the information correctly. Actually the playground equipment and other materials at the common are all recycle and green materials. I’ll write another post and add more photos but for now, here’s one photo to show you one of the water features in the sunset with the CN Tower in the background.

Have you been enjoying beautiful weather this September?

Weeds is finally on in Canada

September 12, 2012 by Tricia

I can’t believe that Weeds only just started last week here in Canada. It’s usually on Showtime Canada and I’ve been watching for it all summer but they didn’t have it on and they kept saying on their site that they didn’t know when they’d be able to air the final season. It seemed very odd.

This past weekend I finally discovered that Weeds had started last Tuesday. Not on Showtime Canada but on IFC Canada so I had to scramble to find the first episode of season 8 and then set up to tape all the rest of the episodes every Tuesday.

What a mess eh? Anyway. I know in the US the finale is about to air. Please please please do not let me know what is happening this season. I’ve avoided any posts or articles about the show because I’ve been waiting to watch the final season and it’s so hard when we here in Canada are so far behind.

A weekend to myself

September 8, 2012 by Tricia

As of tomorrow I will become a college student again. Hard to believe but it’s true! Ok, I’m only taking two courses and they are from home, but I am back to school.

I’m taking two distance education courses from George Brown College. They are nursing related courses. Since I’ve been off work on medical leave for some time I’m going to brush up on a few things and then in January I will be returning to my old job at the hospital if all goes well. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully nothing else happens that will hamper my progress such as my hand injury that occurred in June! That certainly put a huge delay on things! I’m still recovering from that. I don’t know if my hand will ever be the same.

I had a busy week last week. I was trying to get a lot of things done so that I could concentrate on starting my courses on Monday. As I said in my last post I was doing a lot of work on a number of my websites, upgrading and updating because I know I’m going to have less time in the near future to work on things. I also did a little research into possible inviting guest bloggers to write for some of my sites. We’ll see how that goes. I haven’t decided if I’m going to go in that direction or not. I certainly get a lot of offers as it is anyway!

Then .. I was also trying to prepare to go away this weekend. My nephew – the hockey player that I told you about earlier in the summer, is now living in Brockville and playing for the Brockville Braves. He’s playing his first professional hockey games this weekend. My husband and mother-in-law – and I, were all going to go to the Ottawa area to see him play this weekend, however I wasn’t feeling all that well by the time Friday rolled around so I nixed the trip for myself.

There was a lot of planning for the trip going on all week too. For quite a while it looked like up to 10 people were going! As in quite a few of my in-laws! I finally heard from my sister-in-law mid-week or so last week and she said that they weren’t going to see our nephew play this weekend and that they were going to go in October instead. It’s better that the family staggers visits. The poor kid is from Chicago and he’s away from home for the first time in his life so seeing family every few weeks might be a good thing.

It was nice talking with my sister-in-law though. I hadn’t talked with her for quite a while. They’d just come home from closing up their cottage. She was saying that their big thing to do this weekend was to go out and look for swimming pool pumps because they’re going to need a new one next summer for the pool at the cottage. I guess they are cheaper at this time of year.

So here I am on my own this weekend. Busy learning how to use the learning module for my online classes and still working on my sites. I am enjoying the peace and quite in the house though – there’s been too much going on this summer, too many people in the house. I like it when I have time to myself.

How is your weekend?

What’s for dinner?

August 25, 2012 by Tricia

I’m trying to decide what to make for dinner. It’s getting later and later and I still can’t decide. There’s a beautiful fillet of rainbow trout in the fridge that I should eat, but I just don’t feel like eating fish tonight. I should though because the fish will probably go bad soon if I don’t eat it.

I hate having to eat something just because it’s there .. but sometimes that’s what you have to do isn’t it! Oh well, if I don’t end up loving it my dog will get a little bit and she’ll love it.

My Lab is back to not eating very well again so anything I can do to encourage her to eat is worth doing! She’s been like this most of the summer. First it was a yeast infection in her bowel and now she’s gone into heat and I think that’s causing her to be a finicky eater again. Sigh … it seems whenever she gets sick she goes into heat. This will be her last heat let me tell ya!

Ok .. I’d better go gaze into the refrigerator and decide what we’re going to eat.
