The center of the storm

June 20, 2007 by Tricia

Uhmmm … remember that storm I was talking about? You know the one that hit Toronto at about 4 pm yesterday? Caused a massive temperature drop … although who could tell with the humidity!

Well … as gusts of rain were whipping past my dining room window like heavy snowfall bringing with it the lids from my garbage cans that had been secured and moving my barbecue down the lane way trees were crashing down on houses only two blocks away!

My area of the city was the worst hit by the storm.

You’ve got to read this CTV news story, and take a look at the photos to see what kind of damage the massive storm caused. There’s a video on the same page that you can watch, but I can’t get it to play on my computer. You might have better luck.

I knew it was a bad storm. I just didn’t realize how bad it truly was nor that I was in the middle of it.

Geez Toronto is like 60 miles across and I had to have all that action in my neighborhood? I’m just thankful it missed us. Our neighbor has a huge maple tree. If it had come down it would have crushed our roof too!

I’ll be taking a look at that tree in the morning to make sure it looks healthy!

I hate storms. Stuff like this just seems to re-enforce my dislike of storms.

Well, at least my gardens got a good watering!

Find love and marriage at Lovers Planet

June 19, 2007 by Tricia

I used to work in the Toronto Jewelry trade and it’s amazing how many former Russians work in the trade. My first, well only, boss was a Russian Armenian and he happened to be the son of a famous Russian basketball player. When my bosses father moved to Canada he got into the jewelry trade almost immediately and he still works in the business. They’d been involved in the jewelry trade in Russia and brought their skills to Toronto with them.

So now, when I think of Russians, I always seem to think back to my days in the jewelry trade. I remember those times fondly because I really enjoyed the people that I worked with. We got to be friends and I learned some of their language and customs.

Imagine my surprise when I visited a website called Lovers Planet that specializes in dating. Particularly matching up Russian women with potential suitors in other countries.

The woman listed in LoversPlanet.com are, in most cases, true Russian brides. They’ve listed their profiles on the site and they are hoping to hear from foreign men who are also interested in online dating and possibly marriage.

When a Russian woman applies with the dating service they undergo a short phone interview. Now, I can tell you from my experience with both Russian men and Women they are generally good people. The women are brought up to be marriage minded so it’s not at all odd to me that they would list themselves at LoversPlanet with the specific hope of finding a man they could love and eventually marry.

New members of the site are welcome to send free introduction emails to the Russian girls. The womens profiles list photographs as well so interested parties will have an idea of what the woman they are interested in looks like. The site states that most of their female members are educated, employed, computer literate and have at least a basic knowledge of English. Many of them work in the fields of marketing, banking, accounting and some are even police officers.

One feature that some of you might like is the Top one hundred Russian Bride List. I suppose this is a list of the most popular women listed on Lovers Planet.

Visit the site if you are interested in dating and getting into a serious relationship. Perhaps you’ll find a Russian woman similar to some of the ones that I met in the Jewelry trade. If you do – you’ll be a lucky guy!

What a storm!

June 19, 2007 by Tricia

There’s a furious thunder and lightening storm going on right now.

It started about half an hour ago when I was trying to complete a post on another one of my sites. I kept saving the post in case the power went out – again! The power always seems to go out here when there’s a bad storm.

The wind picked up so fierily when the storm first started that it blew the lids off of two of our garbage containers in the driveway and other items flew to the end of the drive as well.

I actually thought that it might turn into a hail storm.

I took some photos of the rain coming down, but I think I’ll post them later when I’m sure the power won’t fail as I’m transferring. I don’t want to mess up my memory stick!

It was something like 31 Celsius when the storm hit, and with humidity it was about 37 Celsius … in case you don’t know your metric temps that’s very very hot! It’s now cooled down to 20 Celsius! (about 70 F). That’s quite a drop in a short period of time isn’t it?

It’s actually going to be on the cool side tonight and tomorrow will be a reasonable summer day temperature wise.

The rain has slowed now, but I can still see lightening and there’s the occasional crash of thunder in the distance. It could come back.

I hate storms in case you can’t tell. Especially when they happen as I’m trying to get some work done.

Go away storm!

Spanish lesson audio books

June 19, 2007 by Tricia

If you’re planning a holiday to a Spanish speaking country it’s always a good idea to know some of the most important phrases that you’ll need to use while staying in that country.
Actually, if you could manage to learn a good portion of the language before you go on your holiday you’ll probably have a much more enjoyable vacation.

If you’d like to start learning Spanish visit An Ear For Books and take a look at the Spanish audio books that they are selling. The first book in their collection gives you five hours of Spanish language classes broken into 10 30 minute sessions.

You can listen to your Spanish language lesson tapes as you commute back and forth from work if you’d like. Why not put that time to good use for a change? I’ll bet you’d learn Spanish in no time.

AnEarForBooks.com also has audio books that range from best sellers to the classics so take a look at the rest of their selection while you are there.
