I seem to be fighting a bug

November 12, 2011 by Tricia

I’ve been so busy working on another project the last couple of weeks that I haven’t had time to update this blog. Sorry! I guess it doesn’t help that I’ve also been sick with some kind of respiratory infection too does it? I think that’s getting worse as well – I’m kind of wheezy this evening and I’m crossing my fingers hoping that whatever this is isn’t turning into bronchitis or pneumonia!

I think I’m going to pamper myself later tonight. Soak in the tub and then treat my skin with some premier dead sea skin care products that a friend sent me this past week. The steam from the bath will do my respiratory system good and the skin care products will do my skin good.

Have you been fighting any bugs that are going around at this time of year? Usually I’m ok and I don’t get every little thing that’s going around, but this year I seem to be catching everything. I think I’m just too stressed out lately or something.

My Niece makes some pretty cool stuff

October 21, 2011 by Tricia

My niece started a craft business a month or so ago. Well I guess she’s really been working on it for a while, but it only became a real business in September when she started an Etsy page and officially started getting sales for her wonderful crafts.

Back in September, I remember her business Facebook page only had something like 13 fans and now it’s got well over 600! She’s really been working hard at publicizing her site and on her products. I’m always seeing photos of new items such as very cool looking dog and cat collars and leashes, crochet hats, baby beanies, hair clips, headbands and more. It seems like every time I check out either her Facebook page or her Etsy page there’s something new there. Next thing I know she’ll be doing something with czech glass beads.

If you like hand made items like the ones I’ve mentioned above please check out either Muench Love Creations Etsy Page or my nieces Muench Love Creations Facebook page.

Getting the house and yard ready for Fall and Winter

October 20, 2011 by Tricia

Winter is coming and we’ve started working to prepare our yard and garden for winter and now it’s time to get the house ready for winter too.

Can you believe I still have plants on my enclosed front porch? It’s getting cold out and usually by now I have all those plants indoors but I haven’t brought any of them in yet. I guess I’d better do that very soon.

We’ve also been doing things like cleaning our windows so that we go into the winter with clean windows. One side of our house is covered in plaster dust it seems from our neighbors renovations and we’ve been trying to get the dirt off our windows for a while .. I think it’s almost gone.

I think some time this weekend I’ll also go into our basement storage area and look at our Halloween and Christmas Decorations. I haven’t decorated for either holiday for a couple of years but this year I might decorate for both. I usually decorate the front porch and front yard. It’s quite festive. Of course it’s a little early for the Christmas stuff .. but I can make sure the lights work and so on.

One other thing I’d like to do is get a new door mat. The one that we have now is getting old and tired looking. It’d be nice to get a custom door mat perhaps with our names on it or a custom greeting. One of my brothers used to always have a custom door mat and I always thought it was a nice touch.

Have started getting your house and yard ready for the cool season – if you have a cool season that is? It’s a bit of work isn’t it?

Raising A Happy Healthy Dog

October 20, 2011 by Tricia

My Labrador Retriever is my first dog and she’s been a part of my life for four years now. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while it probably isn’t hard to tell that my dog and pets in general are important to me.

Since I’m stuck at home quite a bit with my illness (Crohn’s disease) my dog has become quite an important companion. I know she’s a pet, but she’s also part of my family, so it makes sense for us to keep her as healthy and happy as possible so we’ll have many years together – right?

Midnight was a sickly puppy when we got her so her care began with a lot of veterinarian visits and only the best pet foods. She also got a lot of love and tender care.  Once she started to become healthy we started to train her and we quickly found out how smart our Lab was and how much she loves to learn.  Our dog can be shown something only once or twice and she knows it. It’s almost scary how quick she learns things.

Is your dog a happy healthy part of your family?  Do you devote some time caring for your pet in order to keep him or her healthy and happy?

This is our dog Midnight on a recent hiking trip in a local off leash park. As you can see she looks pretty healthy and happy.

Do you take your dog on Adventures?

October 20, 2011 by Tricia

I know that quite a few of my regular readers are also pet owners. Those of you who own dogs – do you take your dog out for big walks or “adventures” on a regular basis?

We’re lucky living in the city that we live in – we have beautiful parks, hiking trails, beaches right on one of the Great Lakes (Lake Ontario) – hmmm and I’m talking in relation to being a dog owner – but that’s pretty good as far as just living in the city too. Right?

Anyway, for most of the year, with the exception of the coldest months of the year (December through March) we try to our Labrador Retriever for special hikes in some of our favorite parks or take her to the beach for a swim. There’s this area in Toronto called Cherry beach that has a section of beach where dog owners can take their dogs and let them run off leash on the beach and they just love it. We take Midnight there as much as we can in summer as she just loves to swim and play with other dogs.

Just about two weeks ago – on our Canadian Thanksgiving – my husband and I took Midnight to one of our favorite off leash hiking trails. It has a pond that she loves to dip in at the end of her long walk near some steel buildings and she just loves running along the trail exploring and waiting for us to catch up to her.

I’d love to be able to take her to the beach or to one of the parks where we go for hikes almost every day but that’s just not possible, but we do try to take her to those kind of places about twice a week. The rest of the time she gets walked at least twice a day – big long walks, so she’s well exercised.

So back to my question – do you take your dog on adventures?
