Did you hear about Led Zeppelin’s comeback concert?

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

If you can’t tell from my last post I’ll just spit it out – I love music. Music of all kinds, but my favorite is Rock n’ Roll. Especially classic rock.

I’m sure that everyone has a band or two – from any kind of music genre – that is not only an all time favorite, but who’s music can bring back memories of earlier times. There are some songs that make me feel like a teenager again when I hear them playing.

Led Zeppelin is one of those bands. I just love their music. I think I’ve got every record they ever produced. Chris is a huge Zeppelin fan too.

So you can imagine how stoked we were when we heard that Led Zeppelin is getting back together for a concert at the 02 in London on November 26th. To the best of my knowledge that’s their only planned concert. If Zeppelin fans are lucky perhaps they’ll plan a tour for 2008. Now wouldn’t that be fantastic!

led_zeppelin.jpg

The concert is a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun – the founder of Atlantic records who died last year. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham’s son Jason will get together at the O2 Dome to play at this tribute concert. Apparently other rock legends such as Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman, the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini will also perform. All of these artists were associated with Ertegun at one time or another over the years.

Unfortunately there’s absolutely no way that we could travel to London to see the concert. It’s just not possible for us. My only hope of seeing their comeback concert is if it’s either shown live on TV or if it’s at least filmed.

I know that many of my readers live in Europe. Perhaps some of you are planning on getting Concert Tickets and attending the show? If you do, I hope you take photos and make some posts about the concert because I’ll want to hear all about it.

If you live in the the EU and really want to attend the concert you might want to visit Viagogo and sign up to be notified if and when Tickets for this concert become available.

Actually Viagogo seems like a very interesting website. It’s supposedly the leading ticket hub in Europe.

It’s basically an online ticket exchange where people can buy and sell tickets to live events such as the Led Zeppelin comeback concert, Arts and Theatre tickets, and even Sports Tickets for football, rugby, horse racing and other sporting events.

I don’t even know if we have a site such as this in North America, but I’d love it if we did. I mean, say you really have your heart set on attending a concert. You could visit the site and see if anyone has listed extra tickets for the event. Of course it works well for ticket holders that bought tickets for an event, but then find that they can’t attend for some reason and need to sell their tickets quickly.

That certainly sounds a lot better than standing outside of an event location hoping to either buy or sell your tickets to those passing by doesn’t it? Much more secure. In fact here’s Viagogo’s guarantee:

At viagogo, every transaction is guaranteed. To support this, we offer full ticket tracking, managed logistics and live customer service support.

* Buyers: Once you purchase a ticket or win an auction and receive a confirmation email from us, viagogo makes sure that you receive your ticket on time for the event. If a problem arises and you do not receive your ticket, viagogo will provide similar or better tickets at the same cost.

* Sellers: We collect the money once the purchase occurs so we can make sure that you get paid.

I don’t know about you, but with that guarantee I’d be happy to buy or sell tickets through Viagogo.

Keep Viagogo in mind the next time you hear of a concert, theatre or sporting event that you’d like to attend.

Oh and if anyone attends the Led Zeppelin comeback concert I’d really love to hear all about it. Remember me!

April Wine on Tour Again

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Do you guys remember the Canadian Rock band April Wine?

They had some pretty big hits with songs like Fast Train, Rock & Roll is a Vicious Game, Roller, You could have been a lady, Bad side of the moon, I wouldn’t want to lose your love, You won’t dance with me and Tonite is a wonderful time to fall in love.

Well, ever since we moved into this area we’ve known that one of the band members from April Wine lives on the street behind us. We still haven’t run into him, but Chris ran into another old time rock n’ roller a couple of weeks ago and we now know which house he lives in. Oh and that other musician that Chris ran into wants Chris to jam with his band sometime too. That’s a story for Chris to tell on his site Guitar Licks though.

Anyway … I got sidetracked … The reason why I was bringing up April Wine in the first place is that I just heard over th weekend that they are back together and touring again. They’ll be playing here in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on November 22nd. Chris and I both really enjoy their music so we might try to get tickets for the concert.

Anyone else an April Wine fan?

Chris and the talent show

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday was Chris’ day off work but he ended up going to work for a while anyway.

He’d planned to go to work on Monday most of last week. You see they had a talent contest at lunch time and Chris had planned to play guitar and sing a song with another guitar player. It didn’t help that his workplace called at 8:30 in the morning asking if he could do an extra shift because someone had called in sick. Chris managed to pass that shift on to someone else though as he really wanted to be in the talent contest.

Before the contest Chris went to work to help them set up the “stage”. Somehow he managed to get sidetracked by someone and ended up helping one of the other hospital employees put IBM memory in a computer! Yes it was one of the IT staff he was helping. I don’t think that there’s anyone Chris doesn’t know in the hospital.

Chris and his friend from work did well in the talent contest. They came in second! They probably would have won, but one of the nurses that works in the hospital brought in a saw and played Amazing Grace on her saw. Strange talent, but she must have been good at it as she won.

I didn’t even ask Chris if he won a prize or anything for coming in second. I’ll have to ask him in the morning.

Smoggy

September 21, 2007 by Tricia

It’s still been smoggy here all day. I’m not sure if it was just because it was a fairly warm and humid day or if the auto wrecking yard fire had anything to do with it. I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of both things.

Either way, it’s looked pretty much like it would rain all day with that overcast cloudy look to the sky. Kind of depressing. There’s no rain in the forecast at all though.

I wish it would rain. We haven’t had much this summer and frankly my plants need a good dose of rain to keep them looking good as autumn approaches. Instead I’ve sent Chris outside to water.

Big Fire in Toronto

September 21, 2007 by Tricia

There was a huge fire here in Toronto yesterday. I believe it might even still be burning!

An auto wrecking yard, not all that far from here, ended up having a huge fire. Police are investigating as to whether it was arson or not as kids were seen in the area before the fire broke out.

It’s a huge auto wrecking yard full of cars and tires. When it caught on fire there was a huge explosion and then the city filled with black smoke. Toronto’s huge, but this fire was big enough to contaminate the air and skies above the city.

I hope the fires out by sometime later today, but since tires are likely on fire I expect it will take longer. Luckily the auto wrecking yard isn’t near any water ways.

Oh Chris works in the OR recovery area and they put the whole staff on standby – something we call code orange – just in case toxic fumes from the fire started to affect people or something worse happened.
