Looking for a job? Try Monster

November 7, 2007 by Tricia

Monster.ca has been around for quite a while. I remember searching for nursing jobs on the site as long ago as perhaps 10 years ago! I’m glad to see that it’s still around and has so many options for employers and job seekers.

I’m discussing Monster.ca here, but as you probably already know Monster is a worldwide company with sites for specific countries such as the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, and many European countries. I don’t think there’s a part of the globe that they don’t cover!

If you are visiting the site to look over their job listing you’ll find a wide variety of positions from professional listings in the medical field to service or trade industries. You can search by the type of employment you are interested in or you can search for jobs by location or if you are an employer you can easily create a post job in the system.

Just like when I used Monster in the past, a job seeker can register and create a profile which can include the posting of your resume. I really like that feature because once your resume is up on the site you can update it over time. Employers can look over the listings as well to find potential employees that might suit whatever position for which they are hiring so posting your resume and creating a profile on the site has many benefits.

You’ll also find a Career centre on the site where you can read articles containing career advice, and the resume centre where you can build an online resume. You’ll also discover the Interview Centre, Self Assessment centre, Employment Law Centre and career news within the Career Centre subheading at the top of every page on Monster.ca.

As you can see there are quite a number of resources at Monster for anyone who is searching for a job. I’m certain that if you were to visit the various centres you’d gain some valuable knowledge that would help you get through interviews successfully or that would teach you to create a resume that would catch an employers eye.

Visit the Monster site to start setting up your profile and resume today.

Classic Toronto

This weeks theme is Classic

Here’s a classic photo of my city, Toronto, at sunset. The tall structure in the center is the CN tower. I believe it’s still considered the worlds tallest free standing structure, but I think a tower is being built in Japan that will rival it in height.

My passport is fixed!

November 2, 2007 by Tricia

On Tuesday my husband got off work a little bit early and we scooted downtown to the Passport Canada office to pick up my new passport.

You might remember a post a couple of weeks ago where I was pretty mad at Passport Canada because they’d made a mistake on my passport listing my birthplace wrong? Well, we had to rush to get it fixed!

I’m happy to report that all the information in my new passport is correct! Whew. That’s a huge relief. I was very worried that I wouldn’t get my passport fixed on time for my trip next week. All this worrying over my passport and I’ll bet that no one asks to see it. Yeah, I’m sure that will happen.

I guess I’m not the only one who had to get their passport fixed though. While I was in the Passport office waiting to get my new passport I started talking to the lady next to me and found out that she was also waiting to pick up her fixed passport. I asked her what mistake had been made on hers and she told me that they’d put down that she was a man!

A Man! LOL

Funny thing is .. upon receiving my first passport with the wrong birthplace listed I called the passport office and they had trouble figuring out why a mistake like that would have happened since all of the information is supposed to be typed in and not chosen from a drop down menu as I had though. But really … come on … They’ve got to be working with drop down menus. The city they mistakenly put down for my birthplace would have been very close to the correct city on a drop down list and in the gender category there’s pretty much really only two choices right? I think the lady I spoke to was wrong about they typing the information in. Had to be.

Anyway … I’m glad they didn’t put me down as a man!

What a week!

November 2, 2007 by Tricia

Wow. I can’t believe I went 6 days without writing in my blog. Blogs I should say – there’s several I haven’t done any writing in all week! I don’t think I’ve ever gone that long without writing!

Sorry! Life just got in the way.

During the first part of the week I was shopping and preparing for our trip to Las Vegas next week. Then, probably because I’ve been a lot more active lately I crashed!

I’ve been so sick from about Tuesday evening onward that I’ve barely been able to do a thing. Ain’t Crohn’s fun? Of course, this means that when I go to Vegas I’ll probably crash again while I’m there or right after I come back.

If you’re going to be at Blogworld or P0stiecon and you meet up with my husband and I, don’t let me overdo things, ok? Honestly. I can be really hyper and sometimes I need to just be told to sit down and take a break. You’ll be doing me a favor if you help make me rest. LOL Also, I’m a huge klutz so making me take it easy might save me from personal injury. Seriously!

Speaking of personal injury. The other day I was standing on the couch to pull our dark curtains shut. We’d run out of Halloween candy and shutting those dark curtains helps make our house look like no one’s home. Shhhh. Well, as I stood on the couch and stretched to reach the top of the curtain where it had become stuck I heard a pop in my right ankle. I didn’t think too much of it at the time, but a few hours later my inner ankle, heel and the lower part of my calf started hurting.

I must have stretched or torn something because I’m still limping around the house a few days later! I think I really need to get me some whole life insurance or something … or wrap myself in bubble wrap as I once said I was going to do every time I went out!

I really am a class A klutz.

I’ve got to remember Dahlias for next year!

I grew this dahlia last year and I never did get around to finding more like this one to plant this year. I just loved the type of flowers that this dahlia produced. It’s quite pretty isn’t it?

I had planted this flower in my front boulevard. It’s a short dahlia – only about two feet tall, so it fits most small garden beds quite nicely.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
