Lets skip Winter and go right to Spring

October 13, 2007 by Tricia

This weeks theme is Smelly

Karlrosenfieldpeony10

I think it’s finally starting to cool down a bit here. I’m not a big fan of winter so I almost wish that we could just skip winter and move on to spring. At least then I’d be able to admire my lovely Karl Rosenfield peonies again.

These peonies have a delicate sweet scent. So yes, this flower counts for todays smelly Photo Hunter theme.

I think this winter is going to be a cold one!

October 11, 2007 by Tricia

I’m not looking forward to winter this year. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long cold winter.

Why? Well, last winter was very mild here for the most part. Yes it was very cold here and there, but we didn’t get much snow and it was above freezing quite often. Then the summer wasn’t too bad either. We had a cool June for some reason, but then July and August were fairly normal temperature wise.

When the weather is fairly reasonable through three seasons I know from experience that the next winter is usually pretty bad. Perhaps I should start packing now and look for some Orlando real estate so I can be in a nice warm area when it’s freezing here.

If you’ve never lived in a cold climate you probably have no idea how appealing that idea really is right now.

Actually considering that I’ve been working from home for much of the last two years I have thought of moving to another area with a better climate. If I can get my husband to work on his websites perhaps I can talk him into working from home too? Then we’d be all set to live anywhere as we’d both be free agents.

Do you ever think about moving to another country?

Happy Thanks Giving!

October 8, 2007 by Tricia

So …. Did all my fellow Canadians have a great Thanks Giving?

We mostly did things around home this weekend.

On Saturday I ended up going out on yet another shopping spree! Our printer hasn’t worked for ages and each week it seems I’ve been getting someone asking me to sign and fax something back to them or when we purchase something like tickets to a concert the tickets are electronic and must be printed out. So we needed a printer.

I got an HP all in one printer. The all in one includes a fax, scanner and printing capabilities.

We actually had to use it as soon as we finally got it set up on Saturday because Chris bought tickets to see Saga play in a Toronto bar and of course the tickets were electronic and the only way he’d be able to get his tickets was to print them out. I was also able to print and sign our confirmation for our airline tickets for our Las Vegas trip and then fax it back to the company from which we’d purchased our travel package.

Sunday was just a lazy day. I wasn’t feeling well at all so I spent way too much time lying on the couch. Thank you Crohns. I did however pick out some new themes for a few of our sites and I will be updating this site and a few others sometime this week. Especially now that I really know how well widgets work. Perhaps I’ll finally get this site to load quicker! Yeahhhh! Oh yeah, the new theme will load the content first – not the sidebars first like this theme does. I hate that. I’m sure you do too.

Earlier today we went to my husbands home town and had Thanks Giving dinner with Chris’ family. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, my mother in law cannot cook. She bought preformed chicken breasts – you know those pressed boneless ones? Yuck. There was also sausages, milkless mashed potatoes, squished turnip and stuffing. Needless to say the only thing that I found decent was the stuffing.

I guess I’ll be cooking Chris and I a small turkey dinner sometime this week as I was really looking forward to turkey and what we did end up eating was really disappointing.

How was your Thanks Giving?

What the Phlox is going on?

In my Green Thumb posts on As the Garden Grows and You are in My World Now I was talking about how we’ve had some strange weather here in Toronto.

Flowers are still blooming away as if it were August or September rather than October, as you can see from the photo that I’ve included of the Phlox that is growing in my garden and that it’s currently on it’s third set of blooms!

My raspberries are still producing fruit, and as I said on my gardening blog, some of my flowering vines have begun to produce berries of their own too. Berries that I’ve never noticed before.

It’s been a warm sticky weekend here in Toronto as well. We had air conditioning of all things on yesterday since it was so muggy! Crazy weather.

I hope that the weather in your area has been a little more pleasant than it has been here.

Any Canadians reading this? Happy Thanks Giving! Yes, here in Canada we celebrate Thanks Giving a little earlier than our American friends. Probably because the weather is usually a lot cooler in many parts of our country by this time of year. Not this year though … LOL

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

April Wine on Tour Again

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Do you guys remember the Canadian Rock band April Wine?

They had some pretty big hits with songs like Fast Train, Rock & Roll is a Vicious Game, Roller, You could have been a lady, Bad side of the moon, I wouldn’t want to lose your love, You won’t dance with me and Tonite is a wonderful time to fall in love.

Well, ever since we moved into this area we’ve known that one of the band members from April Wine lives on the street behind us. We still haven’t run into him, but Chris ran into another old time rock n’ roller a couple of weeks ago and we now know which house he lives in. Oh and that other musician that Chris ran into wants Chris to jam with his band sometime too. That’s a story for Chris to tell on his site Guitar Licks though.

Anyway … I got sidetracked … The reason why I was bringing up April Wine in the first place is that I just heard over th weekend that they are back together and touring again. They’ll be playing here in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on November 22nd. Chris and I both really enjoy their music so we might try to get tickets for the concert.

Anyone else an April Wine fan?
