Sunny days and Sunflowers

In the dark cold winter, as the wind is howling down our driveway and snow if falling outside I often wish that winter would be over and long for the warm days of summer. During those times, when I think of summer, I picture things that remind me of summer – like the beach, walking outside during a warm rain, the smell of fresh cut grass, sitting outside relaxing in the garden and of course the flowers .. the flowers of summer.

Who doesn’t think of summer when they see a sunflower?

Black Eyed Susans (daisies) often remind me of warm sunny days too.

These flowers are blooming right now in my garden. So bright and cheery.

One of the best things about these two flowers is that once they start blooming they often bloom into October, long after most of my other flowers have stopped blooming.

Can you think of a flower, a scent or place that always reminds you of warm summer days?

Looks like a storms a’comin’

This weeks theme is Clouds

Dark Clouds

I took this photo at about 7:30 this evening. The clouds were low, dark and ominous.

We had some rain earlier in the day and the weather channel had said we were supposed to get thunder storms but so far there’s been no storm. Just the dark dark clouds.

We’ve had a very wet summer here in Toronto. I’m not sure how much rain we had, but it was something like 292 mm or more and that total broke all past records by a long shot! It seems like August might be damp as well.

Sinking Like a Sunset

I thought I’d post this photo of the sun setting over Lake Ontario (and Toronto) in tribute to the wonderful musician and band that I finally got to see last Saturday night – Tom Cochrane and Red Rider.

Sinking like a Sunset is the name of one of Tom Cochrane and Red Rider’s songs and it was the third song they played at the concert.

I still have to tell you all about the concert. I’m just in awe still. I can’t believe I finally got to see my favorite musician!

We’re going to a Tom Cochrane concert next week

July 17, 2008 by Tricia

I got an email from my brother last night. Remember I told you last week that he told me that he was going to try to get Chris a free pass to the PGA golf tour? Well he managed to get two passes!

Now I’m not all that interested in watching a golf tournament, but I do believe that I will be going. You see at the end of each days rounds, well the last three or four days of the tournament anyway, there’s going to be a free concert. Our passes are for Saturday July 26th (at Glen Abbey) and that evening Tom Cochrane and Red Rider will be putting on a concert.

I love Tom Cochrane’s music. I guess one of his most famous songs is Lunatic Fringe or perhaps Life is a Highway. I like all of his music and I’ve never managed to see him play live so this will be a real treat!

I just hope that I’m feeling well enough to go that day. My tum has been causing lots of problems in the last two weeks. Darn Crohn’s. I’ve had terrible fevers and lots of abdominal pain, plus I’ve been losing weight. It’s like I’ve been taking Phentermine or something the way my weight is dropping. That’s the bad thing about Crohn’s, well one of the bad things – you can really lose a lot of weight very fast when you are in a flare. It’s bad.

The last time my Crohn’s flared really bad and caused a lot of weight loss I lost about 40 pounds that I did NOT need to lose in less than a month. I hope that’s not going to happen this time too.

Anyway, I’m glad my brother got us the passes and I’ll be resting up over the next week in the hopes that I can go to the golf tournament and concert.

Dog day at the beach

We took Midnight to Cherry Beach here in Toronto last weekend and I managed to take some pictures of her playing and swimming in the water.

IMG_4367 copy

It was her first time swimming, but being a true water dog she was right in there swimming around within minutes. She even swam out about two hundred feet from shore!

There were lots of other dog owners at the beach with their dogs as it’s one of the cities best leash free areas. So it truly was a dog day at the beach!
