I think there’s a sinkhole developing in front of my house!

September 1, 2011 by Tricia

I think there’s a pothole developing in front of my house. On the street, just off to the left there’s a manhole cover and over the last few months it has been sinking into the asphalt and swirly cracks have been appearing around it.

Actually the whole street in front of my house has developed a lot of cracks over the last year or so and they’re getting bigger and bigger. Every time cars and trucks wheels and tires go over the cracks or that sinking manhole cover my house shakes and rattles. Yeah … all the shakes and rattles I feel aren’t just from my loud neighbors toddler!

We called the city to report our suspicions that a big sinkhole was developing but we don’t know if they’ve come out to take a look or not.

Anyway … don’t be surprise if I have a big post in a couple of months with pictures of a car in a huge sinkhole in front of my house because that’s what I suspect is going to happen!

A gift for a real outdoors man

August 31, 2011 by Tricia

My husband and I trying to think up a good gift for one of our friends. He’s the daring risk taker type. You know, the kind that goes out rock climbing, drives to fast and even does a little BMX racing on the weekends. If it’s anything outdoors that’s where our friend is and if we want to see him we pretty much have to be willing to play his game. LOL

Anyway … what do you get for someone like that? Life insurance? Yes I’m sure, but I’m thinking something more tangible. If I could figure out a way to find out his size I’d consider getting him one of these hjc helmets because I’m certain he’d use it. However how do you not spoil the surprise yet still get the right size?

My other idea is to get him some rock climbing gear. I used to do a lot of rock climbing so I’m still fairly familiar with all the gear that’s needed and I’ll bet there’s a few things that he could use.

Anyone else have any other good ideas for a real sporty outdoors man?

Time to get outside and enjoy the day

August 16, 2011 by Tricia

It’s such a beautiful night out tonight. It’s warm and just a little bit humid – but still comfortable enough to enjoy. Of course I can say that easily, having been tucked away inside my air conditioned house most of the day when it was much warmer outside! Now that it’s beginning to cool down I want to get out and enjoy what’s left of the day.

I think that I might throw on some jogging shorts, a pair of Treksta evolution Mid get the dog and go out for a fast paced walk. I can’t jog because of my knee but it’s feeling ok so I think I can go for a good brisk walk with the dog and I’m sure she’ll love getting out.

It will be getting dark in about half an hour so I think I might head towards the Danforth. Maybe Midnight and I will stop for an icecream on the way home. Now that’s a plan!

Do you ever get out and just enjoy a lovely warm evening?

Having trouble with my new Laptop computer

August 12, 2011 by Tricia

Remember that Laptop computer that I bought back in February? Well … it’s been giving me a lot of trouble this week. In fact, it took about two hours just to shut down on Wednesday night and since then – all day Thursday and now today I’ve been desperately trying to figure out what’s wrong with precious computer.

Last night I was so frustrated that I felt like picking up the computer and throwing it at a metal building or something.

Now after taking a few things out of the startup, and using CCleaner to cleanup the registry it’s working a little better. I actually think that my Firefox browser might be causing all the trouble. Windows just keeps freezing and it keeps getting that blue spinning thing like it’s working working working or busy doing something .. for minutes or even HOURS at a time! I mean it’s literally taken hours for my laptop to shut down. Nothing I did would shut it down. I had to unplug it and wait for the battery to die and then it finally shut down.

The odd thing is that the computer seems to work fairly well in Safe mode. It was while I was in Safe mode that I discovered that Chrome seemed to work fine, but if I started up Firefox all the webpages I visited were sort of in text mode. Even after I updated Firefox the pages are still in text mode. I have no idea why … but the computer seems to be working better in normal mode at this time … I’m cautiously optimistic that it’s a software problem.

If anyone has any ideas for any more things that I can do to fix my Laptop. It’s running on Windows 7 – 64 bit. Thanks!

An anniversary gift for a friend who lives across the country

August 7, 2011 by Tricia

Some friends of ours are about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary and I’m trying to figure out what kind of gift to get them.

Unfortunately they don’t live in the same city as we do. They live on the other side of the country in Vancouver! So I’m going to have to ship a gift to them. My friend is a chocoholic like myself and I have a feeling that her husband also likes chocolate so I’m thinking of maybe sending them one of these godiva chocolate gift baskets. I’m fairly sure that they’d enjoy them, although they might be mad at me for sending them all those extra calories!

What would you get as a gift for a good friend who was celebrating a 10th wedding anniversary who lived 2000 miles away?
