Long walks with my dog

December 29, 2011 by Tricia

I’ve been walking my dog a lot more lately. We’ve been taking long long walks through the neighborhood. It’s interesting to see the different neighborhoods and areas that are within walking distance of my house.

The other day, Boxing Day (Dec 26th) one of the biggest shopping days we have here in Canada, I decided to take a walk up to what is called “The Danforth”. It’s not all that far from where I live – maybe a mile or so. My goal was a particular pet store. You see I thought I’d lost my dogs favorite bone over the holidays and I wanted to replace it as quickly as possible before she noticed. She plays with her bone pretty much all day so it would be tragic for it to be missing!

So … I got my dog ready and off we went for our walk. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon. I was pretty sure the store would be open …. but once we got to the store I could see it was closed. I couldn’t believe it. There was a sign on the door that it was only open that day from 10 to 3 pm! The biggest shopping day of the year and they were only open for five hours? Very strange.

Oh well – my dog and I got our exercise that day. Good thing too because there was a snow storm (the first in this area!) the next day and it was way too cold for a long walk. Oh and I found her bone the next day as well. We also saw some strange things on our route home. I know people travel long distances when they visit at Christmas but you don’t usually see trucks marked pool fence az on the street. Someone obviously had a visitor from Arizona for Christmas.

Hopefully you had a nice Christmas or holiday season. Mine was quite different from normal – not in a good way unfortunately …

Merry Christmas, sorry the store was closed, my dog and I enjoy long walks too although with the cold weather I have been lacking, I guess it’s time for me to sit down and put that on the top of my list of resolutions for the new year.

I also enjoy walking with my dog especially during afternoon. My dog also loves to walk and with the clock hits 4 pm he just jumps at me and get’s his collar for us to go outside. I really enjoy doing this stuff since I appreciate that my dog also likes to be with me.

Well, it’s been a long time i didn’t go out for a long walk, i’m so busy with the plan for the holiday and because of the cold weather. Perhaps the next time i will take my dog and try, it may be tired, but i guest you’d got a lot of fun?

Our puppy just died last week. We used to walk him everyday. He caught parvo.

I think one of the things with walking the dog, for me anyways, is that I find it hard to actually get up and take the dog for a walk ( I still do but it seems like a chore) but actually when you start walking it’s great for thinking and getting some fresh air!

Aww…One I like about dogs is that they motivate you to go and have a walk. So if you are pretty much lazy when it comes to working out, you always have your dog motivate you to go out for a walk.

It is fun to get to know the neighborhood while walking your dog. I walk our Havanese every day and check out details of the houses in our neighborhood for decorating ideas. I once found the perfect red color for our front door when I walked past a house a few streets away from us. 🙂

I go walking with my two chihuahuas all the time. People always stop to see what exactly I’m walking (they are both 3lbs each), and always get a kick when they seem them. Anyway, I love walking them and it’s nice to see that other people take enjoyment out of it rather than thinking it is just a chore to do.
