Buying a Light Therapy Unit

December 15, 2010 by Tricia

Well I’m off to Costco. My doctor seems to think that my extreme tiredness and intolerance of cold is due to having Seasonal Affective Disorder – even though intolerance of cold temperatures is not part of the syndrome at all. Anyway … I’m going to Costco to pick up one of those special light therapy units.

I figure, even if I don’t have S.A.D. it will help with my strange sleep patterns – as in maybe I can use the light to reset my inner clock.

While I’m there I might take a look t a netbook. I’ve been reading netbook reviews and the last time I was at Costco I noticed that they had really good prices for their Netbooks … so I might as well take a better look and see if they have any of the brands and models that I read about and what they’re selling them for just to compare.

Now to start putting on the sweaters and my coat … it’s freezing! Is it cold in your area too?

    Tricia,

I was looking at my blog and I notice your blog update here. I had to comment. I have one of those lights. I love it. Noticed the difference immediately as long as I used it. We eventually put the 4 foot lamp in a nice oak frame and hung it in the middle of the living room attached to the ceiling. I feel better with it on. It feels like the sun is out and like I’m not in a dark cave. It’s not so bright that it hurts my eyes wither. It really does make me feel better. Good Luck with it and don’t forget to take your vitamins.

I’ve been thinking for years about buying one of these units. I get seriously blue in the winter and it’s pretty predictable. And I don’t sleep very well either.

If you do get one, please post your thoughts on it and how well it works for you.

We Have Friends that live in Alaska and a lot of people up there use them and Love them. They have to or they would kill each other in the winter when it never gets light outside. Love your blog!

We live in Alabama, USA, so we don’t get too much really cold weather. But even here I can tell a difference in my mood. I’ll be interested in seeing what you have to say about the results of using it.

Here in Toronto light therapy is good for these months where we’re not outside getting enough sun. I’ve had a unit that’s been shining in my face for a few years now. I’ve also been hearing the importance of supplementing with vitamin D all year round, but especially in the months where we get less sun.

Tricia, I had similar symptoms when I lived in Seattle. So I can sympathize with what you’re going through.

As for the netbooks…my wife loves hers! She just got it for Christmas and doesn’t put it down. I got it from Sam’s Club. You may want to check their prices too.

Hi Tricia, great to follow your blog here from Denmark. We use a lot of Light Therapy Units because of all the darkness. We have summer and sun but normally just 4 monts a year.

    Great post 🙂

[…] – 27 Celsius (-17 F) or more with the windchill, brrr. My thyroid is acting up lately too (or maybe it’s S.A.D.) so it’s making me really intolerant to the cold so I’m freezing even inside the house […]
