Suggestions for another WordPress Database plugin?

September 17, 2009 by Tricia

I just realized that the WordPress Database Plugin (version 2.2.2) isn’t working for scheduled backups on this blog.

Scheduled backups work on all my other blogs, but not this one and I can’t figure out why. Luckily it still seems to work for manual backups, but I want it to do daily scheduled backups and it’s not emailing me a backup file. Grrrr. As I said in my post about the worm that’s been infecting old installs of WordPress blogs I want to be sure I have a current backup of all my blogs – just in case!

A few of my other blogs have the exact same plugins as this blog does, so while I think it’s possible that it’s a plugin conflict, it doesn’t make sense that the backup plugin is still working properly on the other blogs.

I did a search for other WP database backup plugins at WordPress.org and there are a few that sound like they might work well, but I’d love to hear from my visitors what they use for their blogs. Two that I’m wondering about are WP-DBmanager and WordPress EZ-Backup. Both sound good but I’d love to hear from anyone that’s been using them with WP 2.8.4 on a site with a fair amount of other plugins in use.

I have never considered doing a daily backup of my site. This is a very good ideal that I should implement. I’ll try the one you currently use.

I haven’t done back ups either. I guess my stuff lives in cyberspace.

I struggle to keep up to date on WP updates even. Although I don’t have a WP database backup plugin I do believe my host (Gatorhost) can restore my website from their backups.

Kris you really should check with your webhost to make sure they are doing regular weekly backups. Some don’t if you have a large website or if you are using a certain amount of inodes. For example I have a number of sites in my webhosting account and I use a lot of inodes – I think i’m over their quota for automatic regular backups, but even if I’m not I still feel better doing my own backups. What’s better – having two or three backups of the same site or none? LOL
