Tired of seeing “fake” people on TV

November 25, 2008 by Tricia

I’m still not feeling very well so I’m trying to catch up on the television shows that I’ve missed in the last week (due to visiting our friend in the hospital so many times).

I’m so thankful that we have a PVR. It’s like Tivo. We pretty much record all the shows we like to watch even though we try to watch several of the shows we like on the same night that they are on tv. This way though we can watch them without commercials and of course watch them whenever we want.

It’s definitely a good way to pass the time when you aren’t feeling well!

Is it my imagination or is just about every actor/actress on TV these days just a little too thin? What happened to shows with actors that looked like real people? I mean it’s like most of the characters on the shows I like are taking diet supplements like Ephedrasil hardcore or something. They’re just too thin, too muscular, too perfect …

Do you find that when you watch TV the people just don’t look like your neighbors, co-workers or people that you’d see in your city or town? I guess most of the stories aren’t much like real life either for that matter! LOL

I agree that so many of these people look like Barbie and Ken! It really sets unrealistic expectations for everyone else, not to mention young girls who are already developing self image problems early on. But what I find the most frustrating of all is the stupid reality shows who make starts of dumb people with no real talent. Many of whom could be advertisements for plastic surgeons.

I’ve noticed this, especially over the last couple of days while I’ve been in Europe. The people on TV in both Spain and the UK in many cases aren’t just average looking, some are even quite unattracive, a sharp contrast to the USA where everyone has to have modelesque looks…a travesty in more ways than one.

I cnat stand to watch TV that hasn’t been recorded. If you dont watch the commercials an hour program only takes 40 minutes.

Three Cent Stamp. I know- I hate reality shows … well ok, I kind of like survivor but not as much as I used to .. the contestants on that show that are kind of fake quickly get a dose of reality once they’ve been there for a few days.

I remember when I was a kid and teen watching TV. Sure there were some beautiful thin people on TV but it seemed like most actors/actresses looked like real people. People I might run into in my town … but not these days.

Jeremy you said “A travesty in more ways than one” … which do you mean? Unattractive people on European TV or too attractive US television .. which is the travesty? Maybe both? LOL

Richies – ah you’re hooked on taped shows like me! I hate getting stuck watching commercials too. And you’re right, you can breeze through a bunch of shows when you can skip the commercials.

If I’m watching a live TV show I’ll pause it for a few minutes just so I can fast forward through the commercials later. LOL.
