I’m hearing funny voices

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

tomlin_lily.jpg Have you ever seen the skit “Ernestine, the Telephone Operator”? It was a role that actress Lily Tomlin was famous for on the early 70’s ? show Laugh In.

Her telephone operator voice was high and nasally. Very irritating yet humorous.

Well I just got a call from a company that wanted to know if we needed new doors or window replacements and the person who called had a voice just like the operator. I don’t know if she was faking it or if that was her real voice. Poor thing if that’s the way she really talks!

That reminds me of another funny voice Chris and I heard recently … A couple of months ago Chris and I went through a McDonald’s drivethru after taking our puppy to her training class. The person who took our order decided it would be funny to pretend to be a dumb chick with a high pitched voice. Turns out it was a guy when we got to the pickup window.

I know it’s probably not as funny hearing about these funny voices that we’ve been subject to lately as hearing them in real life, but it was funny. How do you not crack up when some telemarketer calls you and they sound like a humorous TV character?

Have you heard any funny voices lately? Telemarketers or perhaps someone serving you in a store or restaurant?

Free or premium business cards and other print products 25% off with promotional code

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

A few days ago I was introduced to a site where you can purchase quality custom-printed products such as business cards, letterhead, postcards, personal and greeting cards, checks, envelopes, labels and more.

The site is called GigglePrint and as you can see it has a long list of products that would come in handy for everyone from a small business owner, an entrepreneur or to a person who simply wants personalized stationary to use for the family newsletter.

GigglePrint would have come in really handy for me when I had my own small business. I used to be a trade jeweler and naturally I needed items such as business cards to promote my business. I also needed a variety of rubber stamps for my invoices. Did I mention that you can have rubber stamps made at Giggleprint?

Not only does GigglePrint offer a selection of pre-designed premium business cards, stationary, note cards, invitations, announcements, gift tags and other accessories, but you can also choose to custom design any of these items simply by uploading an image to the site to be used on the product of your choice.

Items such as their premium business cards start off at the price of 250 cards for $19.99.

GigglePrint also has a selection of free products. You can create and customize free business cards, free personal checks and free business checks. What better way to try out a service than to start out with free products and then perhaps select one of their high quality premium items on your next order?

Considering that I’m pretty much a full time blogger these days and I’d also like to promote my photography I picked out one of their free business card designs and began creating a card for one of my sites.

Unfortunately I soon discovered that GigglePrint only delivers to locations within the United States. Hopefully they’ll think about expanding their delivery locations to areas within North America such as Canada as I’m sure they would gain a number of new customers.

If I had been able to order my free business cards I would have only had to pay for shipping.

The site is easy to use. Just navigate through their product menu to find the item your interested in and then follow the directions in order to customize your business card, check, stationary or other product. You can choose the type of font you’d like to use on many of the premium products and as I said before you can personalize their products by adding your business logo, a digital photo or another type of image to your custom item.

If you’re interested in promoting your business or need personalized stationary, letterhead or even invitations take a moment to visit the site. I’d love to hear if you liked the selection and if you found it easy to customize the item you decided to order.

Oh and right now GigglePrint is having a special. If you use this source code GPWF80 when you make an order you’ll get 25% off the price! That 25% off is for all products on the site. Sounds like a great deal to me!

Thank you for your condolences

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

Thank you everyone for your condolences. It’s been a tough time for the family losing someone long before we should have. Our cousin’s mother and brother are taking his death particularly hard.

Yesterday as we were driving to Brantford our car started acting up. Figures doesn’t it? We’d driven about 2/3’s of the way there and while on the Hamilton Mountain the car started to sputter. Chris called his father to let him know where we were just in case the car totally broke down and after giving the car a short rest at the side of the road we tried it again and luckily it started up.

After spending some time with Chris’ cousins family we drove back to Toronto with Chris’ brother who came up from Chicago on Friday night. So we had a house guest overnight.

Unfortunately I was really sick yesterday. I was either too hot or shivering with cold. in other words I was having fevers one after the other and my abdomen was causing me horrible pain. I don’t know if it was purely my Crohn’s acting up or if I’m also fighting a bug on top of everything.

Given that I was in such rough shape yesterday Chris and I decided that I’d stay home today. I also didn’t sleep much overnight so I would have been a mess if I’d gotten up early this morning anyway. Chris and his brother took off again for Brantford sometime this morning. I have no idea when they left as when I finally fell asleep early this morning I was out for the count.

So I guess I’m going to miss the visitations today. Depending upon how I’m feeling in a few hours, Chris will either come back home tonight so that we can both go to the funeral in Brantford tomorrow, or else he’ll simply stay over at his parents and go to the funeral without me. It all depends upon how I’m feeling.

I hate to miss the funeral.

The other thing that will decide if I’m going to the funeral or not is our car! Chris’ dad was going to drop it off at a garage in Brantford for us this morning. Hopefully it’s been repaired by now, but if they had to order parts, perhaps ones that might not come in until late today or early tomorrow morning Chris won’t be able to drive back to pick me up for the funeral.

I hope the car is repaired and that it didn’t cost an arm and a leg. We’re a little NSF right now and really don’t need a big car repair expense.

So I guess for now I’ll just be here at home taking care of myself and the puppy as I wait to see whether I’m feeling well enough to travel tomorrow and if our car is repaired or not too.

We lost a friend and family member

May 4, 2008 by Tricia

We’ve had a death in the family.

On Friday evening we learned that Chris’ cousin had died suddenly. He was only 51 years old.

Of all of Chris’ family, this cousin that passed away was one of the few people that I really got along with well. He was a good friend and we’ll miss him terribly.

The funeral is on Tuesday, but of course it’s out of town.

I expect that beginning later today Chris and I will be driving in and out of town for the next few days as we visit with relatives, go to the visitations and then the funeral on Tuesday. Chris’ brother has already driven up from Chicago.

Considering that I’ll be away from home a lot over the next few days I’ve decided to try to bring my laptop with me so I can get some of my blog postings done .. maybe while in the car as we drive back and forth. I guess it’s a good thing that I purchased an extra, and larger capacity, laptop battery back in November. Now all I need is more laptop memory and I’ll be all set.

I’m not sure when we’ll be heading out of town today … so if you’ve come here for Green Thumb Sunday I’ll try to get my post up, but if I don’t please understand that it might be delayed.

Toronto participates in the Marijuana March

May 4, 2008 by Tricia

You know, I never knew that Toronto participated in the Marijuana March, nor that our city apparently has the largest gathering and celebration each year.

I was just reading a local news site and they said that people took to the streets for the The day-long celebration of all things cannabis yesterday. Apparently it was the 10th anniversary of the Marijuana March which is held to fight for the right to spark up.

Obviously I’m not a smoker and I didn’t even know that this march has been going on in the city for the last 10 years. However I have been prescribed medical synthetic marijuana in the past to control my pain. Unfortunately it didn’t help and zonked me out for days! LOL
