I’d love to go to the Wimbeldon Tennis Championship this year

May 7, 2008 by Tricia

Do you enjoy watching or playing tennis? I used to play when I was a teenager, but I don’t play any longer due to a knee injury and other health issues. However I still do like to attend tournaments and watch the occasional tennis match on television.

The ultimate tennis tournament is of course Wimbeldon. It’s also the oldest major championship in Tennis. The first Wimbeldon championship was way back in 1877. Quite the history! It sounds like it was a gentleman’s game in the beginning as ladies singles and doubles weren’t entered as part of the championship until 1913.

This year the Wimbeldon tennis championships start on June 23 and run through until July 6th.

Now I know that I have a lot of readers in the UK. I’ll bet that some of you have attended matches at Wimbeldon. I’d love to hear about your experiences there. Actually I’d love to get Wimbeldon tickets for Chris and I, but there’s no way we could afford a trip to England this year. Perhaps next year. Sigh. I’ll have to settle for watching the championship on television this year.

I just went to look up ticket prices and you know it doesn’t cost as much as I thought it might. However, as I said traveling to England is a whole other ballgame for me right now. If I were going to get tickets I’d definitely want to them to be Center Court. Tennis is the kind of sport where you need to be up close. It’s much more exciting that way.

If you’re planning on attending Wimbeldon this year please remember to come back and tell me all the exciting details!

Too many expenses lately

May 6, 2008 by Tricia

On Sunday our car broke down when we were on our way to Brantford. Well, the car was repaired in Brantford and Chris drove it back home earlier today after attending his cousins funeral.

You know how much the bill was? Almost $400! Geez … we can’t afford that right now.

We’ve got another $200 bill coming up sometime this month too as we’ve got to take Midnight in for a heartworm test and to get heartworm pills for her.

I also think I’ve got a cavity in one of my teeth so I’ll probably have to visit the dentist soon.

More bills. Arghhh!

We might go to a Rush concert in July

May 6, 2008 by Tricia

When Chris’ brother was over on Sunday night he was trying to talk us into meeting him in Milwaukee in early July to go to a Rush concert. Both he and Chris are big fans of the band.

I don’t even know if Chris could get the time off in order to go to the concert. It’s in the middle of the week, July 7th I think and one of his co-workers is on holidays for the whole month of July so he’s supposed to be doing extra shifts.

If we find that we’re able to go I’ll have to look up some cheap hotels in the area for all of us to stay in. I’m sure Chris and his brother would be happy sleeping in the car for all they’d care, but if I’m traveling all that way I’m sleeping in a bed that night.

Any Rush fans out there?

Did I ever tell you that Chris used to deliver grocery products to the high end neighborhoods here in Toronto? This was like 20 years ago. He met Geddy Lee and his wife Nancy several times. Actually Geddy Lee didn’t live too far from our apartment and we’d occasionally see him and his little dog (a Maltese maybe) in the liquor store.

Men in Trees canceled

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

I was just reading TV guides Ausiello Scoop and learned that ABC has canceled Men in Trees.

I’d only started getting into that show towards the end of last season, but I enjoyed each and every show and kept up with it this season.

Did you know that during the writers strike ABC has 12 or so shows on hold that they could have been airing instead of running reruns of their other shows? Perhaps if they’d done that and hadn’t moved the show around so much Men in Tree’s would have had a bigger following now and wouldn’t have been canceled.

I have a feeling that in the next week or two we’ll start to hear about a few other shows being canceled. Ones that don’t make sense canceling because they didn’t have a chance to gain an audience.

Did you enjoy Men in Trees? Were you a fan?

If you were a fan you’ll be happy to know that when they were filming the last episodes for this season they did film scenes that would give the show closure if it were to be canceled so those scenes will be tagged onto the finale. The rest of the Men in Tree’s episodes will start up again on May 28th.

Need to order new checks? Get a second box for 49 cents at 4Checks

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

Where do you normally purchase your checks? If you’re like most people you probably order them from your bank whenever you find your checks are getting low.

Did you know that you can purchase check online? Most of the time you can get them at a much lower price than your bank charges. I think the last time I ordered checks from my bank I found it expensive. I have to admit that I do most of my banking online these days and I haven’t ordered checks in some time. It’s probably more expensive now!

If you’re interested in saving money on your next order of personal or business checks you should visit 4Checks. The website is a check search engine and it lists well over 800 checks.

As I went through the site I was amazed at the wide variety of check styles. They have checks in just about every category that you can imagine. I’ve always been partial to animal or nature related check backgrounds myself, but as I said 4Checks has quite a variety.

You’ll find checks with American themes, animal checks, career related checks, human nature checks, just for fun, nature, special interest, sports, stylistic designs, and if you’re a vehicle affectionado there’s a category called trains, planes and motorcars.

New clients can order a box of checks for as low as $9.95, plus, if you use this code – ZWF328 – you can get a second box of checks for just .49 cents. Bonus!

The checks come in an assortment of formats. If you are buying checks for your business you might be interested in 3-per-page business checks, payroll checks, laser or inkjet checks, or continuous feed style checks. They also have top stub and side tear checks.

I found some checks that I liked and as I went through the checkout I discovered that I could choose from wallet single or wallet duplicate. I could have also selected labels, inspiration cards (which look quite a bit like business cards) or a checkbook cover.

4Checks specializes in providing a wide selection of check designs and products but they also carry check related accessories such as address stampers, deposit tickets, check registers, address labels, and calculators. I also discovered that they have a number of gift related items like books, jewelry, photo gifts and frames as well as a number of other products.

This is definitely a site worth visiting and perhaps bookmarking.

I was saying earlier that I was going to buy some checks but as I went through the ordering process – which is very easy I might add, I discovered that I could only input a US address and since I’m in Canada I’m going to assume that 4Checks probably only caters to those living in the United States. I could be wrong about that though.
