My puppy is weird

May 13, 2008 by Tricia

A little while ago I decided that the houseplants needed watering. My puppy, Midnight, is interested in just about everything I do. She follows me everywhere she can. So of course when I grabbed the watering container and started filling it up with water she was right there beside me.

That’s not where things get strange …

She loves that plastic watering can. I think she thinks it’s a toy. As I walked back and forth filling the container up with water and then walking through the main floor of the house watering various plants she was right beside me, trying to get the watering container from my hands the whole time.

When Chris came home from work I told him that maybe we should take the watering can with us when we take her for walks. Perhaps she’d finally heel! Chris picked up the watering can and walked through the house and she was right beside him the whole time intently looking at the watering container.

I really do think it might help stop her from pulling us pretty much off our feet when we take her for a walk if we try bringing that watering can with us! We have a harness for her but even that’s not helping that much now that she’s gotten bigger and has put on more weight. When she pulls she’s really strong. So yeah … maybe later tonight when we take her for a walk the watering can will come along for the trip.

Miserable today

May 13, 2008 by Tricia

I haven’t been feeling well today at all. My Crohn’s is acting up and my stomach has been cramping all day.

Last night I fell asleep on the couch and slept pretty much straight through ’till 6 a.m.. Chris happened to get up in the middle of the night because he couldn’t sleep. I can remember him having a cup of warm milk at about 3 a.m. but as far as I know I just looked at him sleepily and went back to snooze land.

I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn’t. I was in too much pain. However around 2 pm a huge wave of tiredness hit me. Midnight was snoozing on the living room floor so I got her to go into her crate and then I lay down on the couch for a short nap. You know what time I woke up? At almost 7 p.m.!

This type of thing has been happening quite a bit lately. I guess I’ll have to go back to the specialists office and see if he can adjust my medications. I just have to start feeling better.

Laying around so much has actually made me gain a bit of weight. I can’t eat a lot with the Crohn’s, but when you feel so ill that you aren’t all that active you can still gain weight. Luckily it’s not too much. I did once consider trying diet pills, but that’s not the way to go for me. I just want to try to get more active. That’s one of the main reasons we got the puppy in the first place.

I hope that I start to feel better soon. Today is just intolerable. I might just go back to sleep and hope that I wake up feeling better.

Free Music downloads with MP3Rocket

May 12, 2008 by Tricia

I don’t listen to enough music these days. We used to have a stereo, but it was old and when we moved to this house several years ago we never set it up. Instead I’d use the radio tuner on our home theater system to listen to the radio or I’d listen to CDs, or music stored on my computer.

Unfortunately, about half a year ago, our home theater system started giving us an overload message whenever we turned it on. We haven’t fixed it or replaced it yet so that means no more radio or CD music through the surround sound system. I’ve noticed that I’ve slowly stopped listening to music over the last few months because of our home theater system being on the fritz.

So earlier today I went searching for music online and I found a site that offers unlimited free music downloads. It’s called MP3Rocket. They have free software that you can download. Within minutes I was able to begin searching for shared MP3 files.

rocket_logo.gif The MP3Rocket software works by connecting to the Gnutella network and it’s very user friendly. I won’t go into all the details of how it works here because there’s a software demo on the main page of the website that explains everything way better than I could in this post!

The only thing I noticed when I was finished installing the software was that it had added an Ask.com toolbar to my Firefox browser. I’d rather know about those things ahead of time and either opt in or opt out during the installation process. It wasn’t a problem though – some of you might actually appreciate the Ask.com toolbar. I’ve already got way too many add-ons for my browser so I simply went to my computers Control Panel, clicked on Add or Remove Programs and easily un-installed the Ask.com toolbar. Simple.

There’s a Pro version of the software too if you want to upgrade. There’s a lot of added features in the Pro version.

I already spent sometime using the software searching for MP3’s earlier today. Now I’m going to spend some more time this evening looking for my favorite bands.

Such a nice tidy garden this year

My garden is just lovely this year. I think it’s doing well because it had so much so cover this past winter and because I actually got out there and tidied it up and did quite a bit of garden maintenance work this spring. I know last spring I was feeling really ill and I just couldn’t get myself motivated to get outside and do a lot of garden work all at once.See how it’s paying off?

This is just a small portion of my garden. These daylilies and astilbe are in what I call the oval which separates the patio area near the house from the back lawn.

This is what my backyard looked like on May 1st.

It isn’t spectacular but it’s neat and tidy and shows lots of promise. The plants have grown in the past week too, plus new ones have come up so the raised garden beds look even fuller now. Click on the photo to see a large image in my flickr account if you want to see more details.

Going over blogroll requests

May 10, 2008 by Tricia

What a boring Saturday night. Sigh. To think I could have been at a party this evening if it weren’t for my father in law booking non-pet friendly hotel rooms for everyone! (see yesterdays post for more info if your confused).

I’m spending my time going through my huge list of blogroll requests! So many people have asked to join my Green Thumb Sunday Blogroll, I am Canadian Blogroll and of course the extremely popular Do follow blogroll that I’m buried in emails.

It wouldn’t be so tedious if it were a matter of simply adding a site to a list, but for most of the lists I’ve got to check out the site, see how old it is, how frequently people post and in the case of the do follow blogroll I have to make sure that their comment links actually follow. This all takes time.

Frankly … since I couldn’t be at the big party for my father in law tonight and since I’m kind of bored I’d rather be on a relaxing vacation at one of those Hilton Head rentals or some great place like that.

I hope you guys are having a much more exciting Saturday evening than I am.

Even my puppy is bored. I finally gave her a rawhide bone to keep her occupied for a while.
