Tricia’s Musings has a new look

May 17, 2008 by Tricia

Well … what do you think of the new look of Tricia’s Musings?

I’ve been downloading and testing WP themes for months in order to find just the right one for this site. I finally decided on this theme about a week ago.

The only problem I’m having with it is that I can’t figure out how to put a header image in it without dropping the sub-navigation bar. I’m sure I’ll figure out how to put in a custom header eventually.

Please let me know if this theme doesn’t work well with you browser. I’ve tested it on the latest version of FireFox and Internet Explorer 7 and I’m pleased with how it’s performing.

I’m planning on organizing the sidebars a bit better and I’ll utilize some of the special options in this theme such as featured video and featured posts shortly. It’s really a great theme. It was a custom theme but the designer decided to offer it up for free at the end of April. I love it and I hope that you do too.

I was supposed to have a custom theme made for this site. I won it in November, but my latest emails to the designer have gone unanswered and I couldn’t wait any longer. I’m pretty disappointed with how things worked out. If she does ever get in touch with me perhaps I’ll use whatever theme she came up with on one of my other sites.

Friend takes a mysterious trip

May 17, 2008 by Tricia

The other day I got what seemed to be a somewhat cryptic message from one of our friends. He sent an email saying that he was off on a jet charter with his wife for the weekend – details to follow.

Now I know he travels for business quite often and sometimes he works a deal so that he can bring his wife along on some of the better trips. She shops while he works or attends meetings – now isn’t that the life?

So I’m assuming that it’s some kind of business trip since there’s no way he could afford a chartered jet on his own, but it must be something good since he said “details to follow”. Figures it’s a long weekend here in Canada and I’ll probably have to wait until Tuesday to find out where they went and what they did. Oh and even more importantly if they brought us back anything. LOL

Need a better way of keeping track of site earnings

May 16, 2008 by Tricia

You know I was just thinking about what a mess doing my taxes was this year. Last year wasn’t so bad because I’d worked at the hospital part of the year before and also earned money from my websites. Last year though, all my income was from my websites and calculating everything was a pain in the butt.

I think I’m going to look into getting some kind of financial reporting software so I can keep track of my daily, monthly and yearly earnings in one place. I do have Excel on my computer, but I’ve just never really liked using that program.

Speaking of earnings mine are down so far this year. Ever since we got our Puppy last November my earnings have been a lot less. I find the puppy very distracting. She’s getting better at entertaining herself, but it’s still difficult to work on my sites with a dog dropping toys in my lap constantly or whining for attention. As a result I’ve been trying to work on more passive income earnings for my websites.

How do you get work done on your sites when you have a lot of distractions around?

Sweet Bear Cubs

May 14, 2008 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

tiny bears

Aren’t these bear cubs absolutely adorable? Too bad they can’t stay that size huh?

I’ve never seen bear cubs this young, but I have seen slightly older ones in the wild. I believe the last time I saw a young bear cub was in Algonquin Park. We’d been camping and we drove to a garbage drop off (not a dump, just a drop off with trash cans) and the young cub was near one of the trash cans.

Needless to say we didn’t get out of the car. We couldn’t see Momma bear, but surely she was around and you never get between a mother bear and her cub. That’s like asking for a death sentence!

Diamond engagement rings at great prices

May 13, 2008 by Tricia

Many of my regular readers probably already know that I used to be a jeweller. I wasn’t a retailer, I actually made high end jewelery to be sold in jewelry stores. I had my own business but I eventually closed it down to pursue another career. I don’t regret my choice, but I still have an interest in the jewelry trade and of course unique designs.

Now I know that many of my readers live in the UK. Perhaps you’ve been thinking of getting engaged and are currently searching for just the right diamond engagement ring? Look no further! 365-diamond.com has a wide selection of Engagement rings. They also have a lovely selection of Wedding Rings too. This company is based in the UK and their prices are 50% lower than for comparable jewelry on High Street.

If you’ve purchased jewelery lately or if you’re about to make a major purchases – ie perhaps you’re looking for Engagement rings you’re probably aware that the price of gold has gone up quite a bit lately. Even though the prices of gold and other precious metals and gems have gone up 365-Diamond is still able to offer incredible deals.

What I like about the site is that when you search the Engagement rings section you can choose whether you want to look at round brilliant cut diamond rings or engagement rings with other settings such as princess, diamond set shoulders, marquise, emerald cut, pear, oval, heart shaped or a cluster style diamond ring. Just find the style and ring that interests you and once you’ve done that you can choose whether you want the engagement ring to be yellow gold, white gold or perhaps even platinum. You’ll also be able to choose the diamond size and diamond quality.

As you look at the engagement rings that interest you you’ll be able to see the ring at several different angles. I like this idea. You really get a good idea of what the ring really looks like and perhaps even how it might look on your fiance’s finger.

Another great reason to buy from 365-Diamond is that when you buy one of their certified diamond rings you’ll receive a diamond certificate which will help you verify the quality and weight of the diamond. This is a great thing to have as you’ll likely be interested in insuring the ring. Every purchase comes with a 30 day return policy so if you aren’t satisfied you can always return it.

One last, yet important thing that I like about this online jewelry store is that they only sell conflict free diamonds.
