My sick little puppy

This weeks theme is LONG

IMG_2656

I’ve had a very LONG day with this little cutie. As I said in an earlier post we had to take Midnight to the vet last night for the third time in two weeks.

It seems that I have a very sick puppy on my hands. She’s still active and alert, drinking and eating, but she’s a little sleepier than normal and of course she has the runs. BAD. Adding rice to her diet and the Pepto Bismal that the vet said I could give her – that I gave Friday evening, doesn’t seem to have done a thing to slow the passage of food through her system.

My Crohn’s is now acting up again as well. Probably due to a severe lack of sleep in the last two weeks thanks to my sick little puppy who’s nickname is now Squirt. (no that’s not a pun, it’s a reality!)

I know I’ve probably been talking a little too much about our new pup on this blog, but I’m so worried about her.

The Holiday Survival Guide will help keep you from overeating this holiday season

December 7, 2007 by Tricia

The holidays are a stressful time of year for a lot of people. I think most people feel that this time of year is rush, rush, rush as they try to get their holiday shopping done, attend work related holiday parties and plan and attend family related gatherings. Not to mention all of the cooking that must be done to prepare for these gatherings!

I don’t know about you, but even though I love each and every family member, the holidays sometimes bring out the worst in me. My sister and I are often cranky and this can lead to an argument or hurt feelings.

For some, all the stress at this time of year and dealing with family dynamics can lead to overeating. It’s certainly easy to overeat with the wonderful supply of tasty food items all around isn’t it?

Lucky for us, the man who wrote the best selling book Shrink Yourself, Dr. Roger Gould, has recently launched a new website that is called the Holiday Survival Guide. The site is completely free to use and the tools on the site which include 7 Ways Your Family Makes You Fat are designed to help you deal with the stress of the holiday season as well as unique family dynamics. The type of dynamics that only add to the stress and possibly overeating!

You’ll find tips and insightful information on the site that will help you prepare for this stressful time of year. You’ll learn how to pinpoint the issues and challenging situations that might lead to overeating and weight gain as well as learn how to deal with these issues via personalized solutions. You’ll even be able to apply these techniques to your day to day life.

Visit the site today and learn how to lessen your stress and prevent overeating during the holidays.

Yet another vet visit!

December 7, 2007 by Tricia

At 5:30 this morning I was going to write a post about adventures with a puppy – accidents in the night … I didn’t and well, my day has gone downhill from there.

As you can probably tell Puppy woke me up in the middle of the night after having a big accident in her crate. She’s got the runs. We don’t know if it’s from the bacterial infection she came to us with, the round worm that she’s been diagnosed with or the vaccinations and worming meds she got on Tuesday.

Either way, she’s continued to have the runs all day.

I spoke with one of the vets at the clinic at 9 am and we decided on how to treat her – watch her, add rice to her diet etc, but when her stools became watery at 6 pm after a day of going going going we decided that we’d better get her in to the vet.

So she’s had her third vet visit in the 14 days we’ve had her.:( Now she’s on Flagyl – a medication I’m very familiar with as I was on it long term myself for my Crohns, and another antibiotic. We’re also going to give her 1 ml of Pepto Bismol to see if that slows down her runs.

Another vet bill and another hefty bill. Ahhh …. why was it that I wasn’t going to get a dog from a rescue or shelter again? Oh yeah I wanted a healthy puppy with no long term problems (behavioral or health) to begin with … yeah that worked out.

Sourcetix has a wide selection of tickets for concerts, theatre and sporting events

December 7, 2007 by Tricia

Tired of sitting at home each night watching television? Not interested in any of the latest movies in the theaters? Well, when was the last time you treated yourself to a live event?

Sourcetix.com has a fantastic inventory of tickets for events such as live theatre, concerts, and sporting events. Say there was a concert that you wanted to attend, but you’ve heard that the tickets are sold out. Check Sourcetix.com. They often have tickets for sold out or hard to get tickets for events and the prices are quite reasonable.

This site just got a make over so not only is it easy to navigate, but it’s also quite pleasant to view as well. You can search for an event to attend by looking up your city, or you can pick the category that you are interested in.

In the sports category you’ll find listings for all of the major sporting events like NHL games, NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, PGA, WWE, Nascar and boxing. If you’re looking for Concert Tickets you can choose from categories such as top sellers, kids favorites, top venues and Las Vegas shows. Theatre categories range from Cirque Du Soleil tickets, to ballet, broadway, off Broadway, Musicals, plays and opera.

You’re bound to find an event that you’ll enjoy. Perhaps you could make it a family outing or a special romantic evening with your loved one.

Sourcetix.com is also having a promotion. Right now you can get 5% off the cost of your ticket purchase if you use the promotion code “source07“. The prices are already reasonable, but who would turn down an extra 5% off the price? I know I wouldn’t!

Here’s an idea – Tickets to a concert, sporting event or the Theatre might make a nice gift for someone close to you as well.

There’s too much money flying out of our pockets lately!

December 6, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how much money we’re spending on things lately!

Of course buying a puppy and all the items necessary to make her comfortable in our home was quite a hit to the wallet. So were her unexpected extra vet bills! She’s been to the vet twice and she’s only been with us 14 days! Remember she had a bacterial infection so she needed antibiotics and medications to settle her tummy?

Well we went to the vet on Tuesday evening for a check up and she got her second set of vaccination shots. Her stool was also checked again and this time the vet discovered Round worms! So she’s on more meds. She also has a slight infection in her left eye so we have to put ointment in her eyes twice a day.

I think the vet bills have come to about $600 so far.

Then, on Tuesday when Chris was driving to the other side of town to pick up the replacement light we needed for our DLP TV (that was $300) the drivers side window’s motor failed and the window was stuck half open.

Our cars been at the garage since Wednesday morning. They had to order a new motor for the window and that costs $400.

This is nuts!

We’ve also still got to buy a number of gifts for Christmas and then my niece, who’s having a baby in February, will be having a baby shower in the first week of January.

Ah the bills! The bills!
