Should I go shopping while in Vegas?

October 19, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe it’s the nineteenth of October already! Our trip to Las Vegas is coming up fast! Two and a half weeks from now we’ll be in that busy city! Good thing our passports arrived yesterday huh?

I know I’m going to be at blogging conventions and I probably won’t have a lot of time to do much other than attend the conventions and perhaps some of the places along the strip where we are staying, but if I can I’d like to do a little shopping.

With our Canadian dollar being higher than the US dollar I might be able to find some fantastic deals.

When I was searching for a hotel for us to stay in I noticed that only about 10 miles away from the strip there’s a big outlet mall. I wonder if any other bloggers that are going to the convention might be interested in a shopping excursion?

I need new clothes! Plus maybe I can get a few Christmas gifts out of the way too? Chris has always liked playing golf, perhaps I could find some Mizuno golf clubs for him at a discount? I’m also still looking for a macro and a telescopic lens for my SLR camera and I’m pretty sure that they are cheaper in the US than they are here in Canada … yeah, maybe I’ll come back with some new toys!

Coming out of hiding

October 19, 2007 by Tricia

Some of you know that I’ll be going to a blogging convention in November. I’m going to BlogWorld first and then I’ll be attending P0stieCon.

Some time over the summer I was asked to be part of a panel at P0stiecon. I still don’t really know what this will involve other than I won’t be on stage all by myself.

Well earlier this week one of the folks in charge of P0stiecon got in touch with me and told me that they’d need a photo and a bio for a program pamphlet they were preparing.

Yikes!

A photo?

I’m the one behind the camera – never in front of it! Not to mention the fact that I simply hate having my photo taken.

Well my time ran out and I had to hand in a photo. I still don’t even know if I handed it in, in time or not.

Last night my husband got behind the camera and took a number of photos of me. I mean a lot of photos! I really didn’t like many of them. I haven’t been feeling very well for about two weeks and had in fact been sleeping just before our photo session. My eyes are puffy in a number of the photos. My husband managed to capture me with my eyes closed or my mouth is a strange position a number of times, but if you take enough photos eventually you’ll manage to take a few decent ones.

So I figured since I’ll finally have a chance to meet other bloggers in about three weeks I might as well come out of hiding and give you a little peek.

So here you go. This is me:

SourceTix.com has tickets for events throughout North America

October 18, 2007 by Tricia

I think it’s always a great idea to know of a few online sites where you can find tickets to major events. SourceTix.com is definitely a site to check out.

SourceTix.com offers a comprehensive inventory of Theatre Tickets, concert tickets, and sports tickets.

The site has recently been redesigned. I’m not familiar with it’s former layout, but I found SourceTix.com’s current layout to be quite easy to use. There are menu buttons under the page header that will take site visitors directly to the sites home page, sports, concert or theater ticket listing sections. There’s also a menu on the left side of the page with expanded listings for each of the main ticket categories and a search box.

I actually like the fact that visitors can easily search for event tickets by city. It appears that visitors can search for tickets pretty much anywhere in North America.

As someone who’s going to be traveling to another city in the near future I appreciate the ability to search for tickets throughout North America. Who knows, perhaps I’ll spend some time on the site and see if I can find tickets for some events in Las Vegas in November. I’d love to see one of the shows in Vegas while I’m there.

You’ll be able to find tickets for upcoming future events and even to sold out or hard to get events. For example, I live in Toronto and even thought the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team isn’t doing so hot games are almost always sold out. They have a strong fan base and it’s always hard to get tickets. I checked the listings for the leafs and SourceTix.com has tickets for Saturday and other future games! Unbelievable.

I just told my husband and he had me check for tickets for a game which should be popular with the fans – the Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Montreal Canadiens November 13th and yes, there are tickets. That impressed my husband to no end.

When searching for concert or theater tickets you can search by top sellers, top venues, by specific locations such as Broadway, off Broadway and in other ways.

No matter what your entertainment interests are SourceTix.com is a site to bookmark and keep in mind the next time you want to go to an event.

Oh and at this time SourceTix.com is offering a 2007 promotion for 5% off tickets. Just use the following code “source07” when you order tickets.

Translate Tricia’s Musings!

October 18, 2007 by Tricia

I don’t know if anyone noticed one of the new features that I’ve added to Tricia’s Musings and As the Garden Grows yet, but both sites are now using the Google Translate plugin.

I decided to add this feature because I know that both sites have quite a few readers who’s first language is not English. I, of course, don’t speak most of the languages that my posts can now easily be translated into, so I’m not sure how beneficial translating my articles will be in the long run.

It’s worth a try anyway.

I know that translators work best when the author uses proper syntax, grammar and spelling. I try. I know my grammar isn’t perfect, but I do make an effort.

The Google Translator plugin can translate a site or posts into the German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Chinese languages. I wish there were also a Nordic language feature.

As I’ve mentioned many times over the last few months this site will soon have a new look. It will happen soon!

None of my husband or I’s blogs currently use widgets. That’s about to change. I haven’t been using widgets because many of the codes that I use in my sidebars just didn’t work well in Widgets. I’ve known about a plugin called PHP-Exec for a while now, but it’s never seemed to work well for me.

I’ve recently discovered a similarly named WordPress Plugin called Exec-PHP and it works! Even better – it’s easier to use than the other plugin. You don’t have to wrap PHP code in another code. You just activate the plugin and tada you can use PHP code in your posts (in code mode) or in your widgets.

I stayed up quite late last night working on widgetizing my gardening blog on a test blog site. It was necessary to use the Exec-PHP plugin in order to use widgets on that site. Later this evening I’ll work on transferring the contents of my test widgets over to my gardening blog and it will officially be the first blog of ours that is fully widgetized.

I’m sure I’ll move quickly and use widgets for all of our blogs sidebars.

The great thing about using widgets on your wordpress site is that if you want to change your theme you can do so very easily as long as you pick a theme that is widget ready as your sidebar widgets should transfer over to the new theme quite nicely.

This theme is not widget ready at all. In fact the code used to make up the sidebars is very outdated coding indeed. It uses tables instead of unordered lists. Tables … that’s partly why this site takes a little longer to load than it should! So yes, a theme change is necessary.

So watch for the changes in our blogs and in the meantime if those of you who speak one of the languages that this site can now be translated in can give the translator a try I’d appreciate it. I’d love to know if the translations make sense! The translator buttons are located in the top left sidebar.

PMbuzz – a NYC site for the Nightlife Community

October 18, 2007 by Tricia

If you live in New York City and you’d like to keep up with what’s happening in the clubs you should head over to PMbuzz.com. This is a site that was built for the nightlife community. Club goers, DJ’s, Entertainers, and Club owners/ managers can network.

Promoters can create listings for their nightclubs or upcoming events on PMbuzz. People are always looking for new nightclubs to visit. If you list your club on PMbuzz you can post photos of your club, discuss it’s features and connect with potential patrons.

Entertainers and DJ’s can create their own PMbuzz page for themselves to highlight their own upcoming events within the NYC community. Fans can connect with their favorite DJ’s and Entertainers as well as keep track of their latest gigs.

Club goers will love this site. They can connect with friends, post photos and videos, create blogs and keep up with the latest events and make plans to connect with friends at the various clubs or trendy events. You can even blast a message to all your friends to tell them about the latest hot spot that you’ve discovered or to give them details on where to meet up. Since DJ’s can upload their latest material club goers can listen to new beats before the rest of the nightclub community gets to hear them in the clubs.

Just like any social network everyone can interact with one another. PMbuzz is a site based on user driven content meaning registered members are who makes the site work. The site is what you make it.

PMbuzz is definitely a site to check out if you enjoy NYC nightlife.
