Get in on the BlogRush

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Well I finally bit the bullet and signed up for Blogrush. I believe BlogRush only opened it’s doors last week but already thousands upon thousands of bloggers have signed up for a free account.

So what is Blogrush anyway?

Well, simply put, it’s another way to promote your blog. You sign up, add your blogs feed to Blogrush and then put the widget on your site. The widget will show blogs that are in the same category as the one you listed your blog under. In this way, your blog will be promoted on sites similar to your own. If your visitors like your site they’ll probably be interested in visiting some of the blogs that show up in your widget so you’ll be helping out other bloggers too.

It’s a win win situation!

Here’s how Blogrush explains things:

What Is BlogRush And Why Should I Use It?

BlogRush is a “Cooperative Syndication Network.” It’s a network of blogs that run a small “widget” on their pages. Each time this widget is loaded it will contain 5 clickable headlines which are the blog post titles to other users’ posts. Clicking on any of these links will open a new browser window and load the blog and full post. Users earn “syndication credits” based on each time their blog loads the widget as well as each time any of their referrals (users that signup after clicking the “add your blog posts” link on the widget) loads the widget. They also earn additional credit based on all the activity through 10 generations of referrals. 1 Syndication Credit = having one of their recent blog post titles served inside the widget on another member’s blog.

How Do I Earn Syndication Credits?

Syndication credits are earned based on the following formula: You earn credits on your own traffic using a 1:1 ratio. (One credit for each time the widget is served.) You then earn credits based on your referrals traffic (and their referrals traffic) through 10 generations of referrals based on the following ratios: 1st and 2nd generation (i.e. your direct referrals and their direct referrals) 1:1, 3rd – 6th generation = 1:4 ratio, 7th – 10th generation = 1:8 ratio. After all the math is calculated, there is a surplus of 1 headline space (5 spaces in each widget load) for every 10 that are served. So 10% of all the headline space is reserved for BlogRush itself to sell or use.

So if those of you who haven’t signed up yet would sign up under me using my referral code I’d appreciate it as I need some referrals in order to have my blog posts show up in my widget. Once you sign up invite some friends and make a blog post to get others to sign up under you.

My widget is in the lower left sidebar, but I thought I’d also try putting it in this post so that you an clearly see what it looks like:

Doctors, drugs and pregnancy

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

At the end of August I had an appointment with my pain doctor, but I had to cancel it because I had the flu at the time. I then had to wait two weeks for my rescheduled appointment.

Of course this has thrown my prescriptions all off. When I missed my appointment I was almost due for a new prescription of my pain meds. She doesn’t like to write out prescriptions when medicines aren’t due. I don’t mind that as I used to work in a pain clinic for close to 10 years and I know that people in chronic pain can abuse their drugs and overuse them.

So, when I was due for my meds I had to call my pharmacy who then placed a call to the doctor to get the refill.

Now since my appointments are out of whack I just had to do that again. I’ve only got a few days worth of pain meds left.

I hate having to call the pharmacy to get refills. They are slow, don’t always call the doctor and the whole experience of having to ask a third party for my pain meds kind of makes me feel like a drug abuser.

To top that off, during my last appointment with my pain doctor in mid September we were talking about what would happen if I became pregnant. You guys know we’re trying to get pregnant right? Well that’s not always the best thing when you are on pain meds. None of the meds I’m on will hurt a baby, but the doctor did talk to me about the fact that if I’ve been taking pain meds while pregnant our baby would probably have to go through a mini drug rehab when it’s born.

I’m hoping that’s not the case if I do get pregnant. Many women with Crohn’s end up going into remission when they get pregnant and often feel their best while pregnant. I’m hoping I’m one of those women as I’d be able to get off my pain meds and have a truly healthy baby if that were the case.

Whatever happens if I do get pregnant I think I’ll try to get off the pain meds that I’m on even if I’m still having pain symptoms from the Crohn’s disease. Keep your fingers crossed that the non narcotic pain medication that I got two weeks ago works for me as I’ll be able to start getting off the heavy duty pain meds if it works!

And the winner is …

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

I just won some money. I just won some money. Hey! I just won some money …

Yes I did. I’m doing a happy dance right now.

Being stuck at home because I’m sick sucks, but winning some money certainly helps out. A lot!

Want to see what I won and how I won it? Go check out my post at My World. I’ve even included a fun video that shows how I came to be a winner.

Chris and the talent show

September 25, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday was Chris’ day off work but he ended up going to work for a while anyway.

He’d planned to go to work on Monday most of last week. You see they had a talent contest at lunch time and Chris had planned to play guitar and sing a song with another guitar player. It didn’t help that his workplace called at 8:30 in the morning asking if he could do an extra shift because someone had called in sick. Chris managed to pass that shift on to someone else though as he really wanted to be in the talent contest.

Before the contest Chris went to work to help them set up the “stage”. Somehow he managed to get sidetracked by someone and ended up helping one of the other hospital employees put IBM memory in a computer! Yes it was one of the IT staff he was helping. I don’t think that there’s anyone Chris doesn’t know in the hospital.

Chris and his friend from work did well in the talent contest. They came in second! They probably would have won, but one of the nurses that works in the hospital brought in a saw and played Amazing Grace on her saw. Strange talent, but she must have been good at it as she won.

I didn’t even ask Chris if he won a prize or anything for coming in second. I’ll have to ask him in the morning.

Lovely budding gladiola

gladiola bud

I love gladiolas. They are an old fashioned flower, but so lovely in the garden. This photo is of gladiola buds. I think the flowers were fully open about a day or two later.

I rarely cut the flowers in my garden as I prefer to enjoy them by looking at them from within the house or while in in the garden, but if I were to cut some flowers gladiolas would be a good choice. Especially if they were buds that were just opening like this one. The cut gladiolas would continue to open in the vase and would last about a week.

Do you cut flowers from your garden? What’s your favorite type to bring indoors?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
