My neighbors are infuriating!

September 15, 2007 by Tricia

Ohhhh my neighbors make me so mad sometimes!

Chris is out of town today and I’m convinced that whenever they don’t see our car in the driveway they must decide that no one is home at all. So up goes the music, the awful karaoke and any other really loud noises they can make.

It happens every time I’m home and Chris is away for the night.

Since I had an awful night and barely got any sleep I lay down on the couch at 2:30. Unfortunately I was woken up by loud guitar at 4 pm. Loud Guitar. Like it was in my living room.

I had a little freak out moment … I started to yell “Shut up, Shut up, Shut up”. Naturally that didn’t work because their music was so loud I could barely hear myself yelling. I tried phoning them, but I guess they didn’t hear the phone!

So … I went to the basement and got a hammer. I then proceeded to bang on the cement wall of the basement.

I think that worked because the loud guitar stopped.

I can not wait for these people to move! They told Chris in mid-August that they’d be putting their house up for sale in September, but so far no for sale signs gone up in front of their house.

There’s been lots of banging around as they repair things. Today I’ve heard hammering and sawing. Oh and the loud guitar … It’s not like we’re super quiet or anything, but they are so much louder it’s unbearable!

Just last week the lady of the house told my husband that they’d be having an open house this week. I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen.

I saw their house when they first moved in and it didn’t seem that bad. I mean, I would have done some work, but it didn’t look like it had to have work done. I guess 6 years of not maintaining their home must have taken it’s toll though, because they still aren’t ready to put that for sale sign up.

I know we might get even worse neighbors, but I wish they’d hurry up and move!

BTW I wrote this earlier in the day. Now it sounds like they are having a party! Geeezzz. I don’t mind if they have a party, but do they have to ALL jump up and down and sing to every song? Not to mention the karaoke that’s going on too? My house if vibrating!

Boy, am I lucky that we have strict noise, party and nuisance laws in my city.

They will cite and fine heavily people that are as much of a nuisance as your neighbors.

    And not awful Karaoke!!!!

We have noise bylaws, but since my neighbors were making noise during the day and early evening and it likely couldn’t be heard too loudly outside the house they wouldn’t have been breaking any noise laws. Just driving ME nuts since our houses are attached and I can hear their loud music and parties through the walls.

I swear if we buy another house it will be detached!

    Tricia,

    I really feel for you.

When I was first married and still in dental school we lived in an apartment complex with very thin walls connecting the units. The people next door were Asian and would make this garlic spicey stuff that would literally creep through the walls and smell up our entire living room.

It was very difficult to have people over in the evening or weekend afternoons because of the smell.

    No karaoke though.

It’s maybe worth mengioning here that you can have all the laws in the world but without adequate enforcement they’re useless. This is a concept it seems is recognised far more in the US than here in the UK as often I see on cop shows you’ll have the good guys claiming to be from “law enforcement” whereas over here it’s more along the lines of “You’re nicked, son” or “We’re the law”. That’s in the shows, of course, in real life I have to say it’s been months since I saw a proper copper anywhere locally and there’s a big population where I live. Not a whole lot of law enforcement around here, so what good’s the law?

[…] know, as much as I complain about our current karaoke neighbors they aren’t that bad. Unless their son is jumping on the couch or playing a really loud video […]
