How Canadian is that? A Moose! A Metal moose at that!

If you’ve been visiting my husband and I’s sites today you’ll notice that the photos are all from the same place. We went to an art show two weeks ago and we both loved the metal artwork the best.

Oh there was pottery, paintings, photographs (my nephew had a photo exhibit there!), sculptures, woodwork and many other types of art work but it was the metal artwork that fascinated us.

I think it was the moose that I saw first. Probably since it was the largest piece that the artist had at the show. It’s made out of a recovered oil tank.

I have a tiny front yard and this moose would take up the whole lawn area!

BTW sorry I’m late with my Photo Hunt photo!

How to find a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program that’s right for you

July 29, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I both work in a local city hospital. I’m an ER nurse and he’s been a hospital porter and is now an OR Recovery room attendant. Having worked in the field of health care for many years we’ve both seen some fantastic advances in medicine as well as some of the worst illnesses and cases of human suffering that you could imagine.

Working in the ER I care for patients with a variety of ailments. I try to care for each person as well as I can. Unfortunately the hospital is ill equipped to help people suffering from long term addictions. We can help so many people, but unless a person has come in with an overdose of drugs or dangerously high alcohol levels there isn’t much we can do for those that come in repeatedly due to their addictions.

When someone comes into the ER who has drank too much alcohol or who’s taken too many drugs we do everything we can medically to help them, but we can’t really help them with their ongoing addiction. Once these patients are stable we often end up sending them to a rehab facility if there is an opening available, or if they do not have a safe place to stay we will send them to a shelter. These are just temporary solutions and there are far too many people suffering with addictions so a placement for new patients is often hard to find.

That’s one reason why I appreciate places such as 1800nodrugs.com. This website is a non-profit portal that specializes in assisting those who are in need of addiction treatment, or health care workers who are trying to find a placement for their patients find long or short term drug rehabilitation programs.

You can visit the site or call 1800nodrugs at any time of day as they are open and ready to assist those in need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service is 100% free.

The staff at 1800nodrugs specialize in assisting drug addicts, chronic relapse victims, alcoholics and their families find the right type of addiction treatment or rehab program. They aim to find a program that suits the needs of each individual person as what works for one might not work for another.

They have information about the thousands of alcohol rehabilitation and drug treatment facilities across the country. I think this is great because while there might be treatment programs in your general area they might not suit your needs. Contacting 1800nodrugs will allow you to find out about other types of treatment programs which might be more suitable. Certainly if a person is willing to try rehabilitation they should go to a facility that would give them the best chance of success.

The website itself is easy to navigate. The number to call is of course within the domain name, and splashed across the top of every page of the site.

The left hand side of the page contains links to other sections of the site. You can learn more about addiction, alcoholism, relapse prevention, drug rehab, drug trends, alcohol rehab, types of addiction assessment, prescription drug addiction and duel diagnosis by clicking on the links in the left column.

The right hand side of the main page contains links to an online drug assessment form. It’s a short form that I believe will allow you and the staff at 1800nodrugs to discuss treatment plans and options via email if you do not have the ability to talk to the staff by phone or if you just wanted to inquire about drug or alcohol rehabilitation. You’ll also find links to information about international inquiries as well as a link to a section entitled “Get Financing” which will take you to a page that contains a simple form that can be filled out by those who need financial assistance for drug or alcohol treatment.

The main page of the site also has a number of links that will help a person suffering from addiction or their loved one either find a treatment program or learn how to support someone suffering from addiction. The article titles are What is the Best Drug rehab program?, How to break the drug addiction cycle and begin recovery, How to find a drug rehab center, and How to support alcohol recovery. The articles are all very well written and I’m sure you’ll find some helpful information if you were to read one or two of the articles.

If you or a loved one is suffering from drug, prescription drug or alcohol addiction give 1800nodrugs a call. It’s absolutely free and a simple phone call could be the first step to recovery and a long and healthy life.

Chris seems to be better

July 28, 2007 by Tricia

Thanks for all the comments about my husband and his scare the other day. He went to work on Friday and he seems to be doing better. I’m keeping a close eye on him though.

The last time he had experiences like this he looked wiped out and pale and was tired all the time – especially after he’d had strange symptoms. This time round he looks fine and says he’s feeling fine. Maybe this wasn’t the same kind of thing that put him in the hospital before after all.

He’s full of energy wanting to get yard work done and so on. He even went crazy and really cleaned up the kitchen stove and refrigerator for me on Thursday when he was home from work, supposedly recuperating. If that’s how he is sick he can stay home more often! I like my newly cleaned stove and fridge.

He’s actually been a bit hyperactive so I created something for him to do earlier today. He might have even dropped by your site earlier. I told him he should site down and visit some other blogs, make some more connections for his own blogs. So if you get a comment from Chris this weekend that’s my husband – AKA Sir Talk A Lot.

I finally added Google Adsense to this site

July 28, 2007 by Tricia

I was up late last night working on our sites. I had never added any Google Adsense to four of our sites. Why? Well, when we’d first started them I was using traffic engines like Bl)gexplosion and Bl0gMad to begin getting some new visitors to the sites. It worked, I believe that we managed to get a few regular readers and have retained some of the early connections that I made by being very active on the various traffic engine sites.

The problem is that you can’t have Google Adsense (not on the main page anyway) of a site that’s regularly being seen on a traffic engine site as they believe that is generating false impressions of the Google Adsense ads. So I didn’t have Google Adsense on those four sites.

I haven’t been using these sites at all this year, so I finally decided late last night to deactivate, put on pause or hold, all of the sites that I’d had listed on the traffic sites I’d been using in the past. Once I did that I started putting Adsense on this site, As the Garden Grows, Breath of Life and Odd Planet.

It was kind of stupid of me not to put Google Adsense on these sites earlier since these sites tend to have the most traffic of all of our sites – well other than my website. I tried to make the ads as non glaring as possible so as not to irritate our regular readers. Yeah, it might not be quite as effective that way, but for now that’s how I’ll try it on these sites.

All of the sites also have Kontera on them now too. I’ve set it up so that you shouldn’t see Kontera ads in new posts. I tend to post several times a day on a few of the sites so for the most part regular readers should have Kontera free posts. If you don’t visit as often and you scroll through the sites to see all the posts that you’ve missed since your last visit then yes, you’ll run into some Kontera ads here and there.

I’d love to hear if you like the way I’ve set things up. I’ve tried to monetize my sites in a way that should have very low impact on regular loyal readers.

It’s so quiet

July 28, 2007 by Tricia

It’s been so quiet today. I’m used to getting a lot of comments on all of our blogs and while we’ve had some there’s been a lot less today.

Did everyone go on holiday or away for the weekend?

We haven’t taken real holidays for a long time, but usually when I did it was either the first two weeks of July or the last week of July and first week of August. Somehow those dates always seemed to be the best times to go on holiday. Perhaps some of my regular visitors think like I do and went away this, the last week of July.

Well whatever you’re up to I hope you’re having an enjoyable time!
